  1. Chickenrice...I don't know if I can add anything further than what the other posters have stated--but I can give you moral support.

The others are right, the government doesn't care about fair or future earnings...they are trying to insure against potential welfare recipients by making sure every immigrant is in a financially secure home and they won't be picking up another grocery bill/dr. bill/ subsidized apartment bill.

It sucks, I know. Seriously don't get too overwhelmed. Take a deep breath and make a list of EVERYONE you can think of that would qualify income-wise to co-sponsor. Then just start asking....the worse that can happen is they will tell you "no"...the best case scenario is that someone you didn't expect to be supportive will surprise you and say YES!

Are you a student, is that why you can't consider a second job? If you are a student you should research pell grants, scholarships and other financial aid as "income consideration."

I know it's not a technical post, but I hope it helps.

  2. Oh my heck!!! I can't believe the big day is almost here! My husband has his interview in a couple of days in Islamabad and I'm a nervous wreck....called him the other day to remind him to take his passport. He laughed at me of course because he's organized, ready and excited.

I'm praying so hard he doesn't end up in AP! Any input from any of the members that applied through Pakistan for their Visa would be so helpful right now...maybe it will distract me from worrying too much.

    Thanks!

  3. Welcome to the waiting game! We started our process in August and it has been helpful to spend the downtime researching and working on the next step. As previous posts have stated you can get a USC co-sponsor to help pass the affadavit of financial support. Some people use parents, grand-parents, siblings, god-parents, etc...can you think of anyone at all that could help you out in this area? You could also look at a second job to help boost your income level...

    Good luck and best wishes!

  4. confusing

It is a confusing process, but I agree with the posts above.

    1. I don't think anyone on VJ is an attorney so we can't give you "legal" advice, however there are so many well-versed members here that have common sense and applied knowledge. Remember no-one is going to be as vested in your visa process as you and your significant other.

    2. Attorneys are expensive and slow the process from everything I've heard...if you really want this you'll learn to take the time to sit down and focus, re-read all instructions, read your completed forms four times for mistakes and then have someone else read them as well and always make three or four copies of everything....just in case.

Good luck with your process and speedy journey!

I had no problems at all getting the visa to Pakistan. I applied for a one time visit in July for the wedding and received it back within a week and then applied in December for a multi-visit visa (to save money in the long run) that is good until 2014 and again received it back within a week. I went through the embassy in D.C.

My husband speaks pretty good English but feels that he can explain in better detail his feelings and our relationship in his native language. And if the CO is abusive he can at least feel comfortable in the language and give the appropriate answers. I believe the Urdu interviewers will also ask if they speak English and determine their level of English during the interview as well...but it's really a personal decision. I think what matters most is the comfort level of the person being interviewed....sometimes a native language can provide extra confidence and peace of mind.

I originally intended on visiting Pakistan again when he had his interview but had some professional obligations come up that I knew would end up conflicting with the interview date (i.e. February) so decided to visit for two weeks over the new year instead. Multiple visits secure our proof of bona fide relationship...not to mention we miss the @#$@ out of each other. LOL

I've also heard from many Pakistani interviewees that if the USC goes to the interview it can be brutal because your interviewed separately and they try to find conflicting answers and make it harder for approval...but then others have had good experiences so it really must depend on the CO's and the political climate at the time.

When is your interview? I'm so excited for you and hope it all goes well and you get your Visa soon....this waiting game can be brutal!!

  6. I am going to have my husband do his interview in English so they know he and I can communicate well. Also I plan to be at his interview.

I have a question for you. Did you have any problems getting your Visa to Pakistan? It used to be really easy. For a while they were giving Americans a hard time getting Visa's. One of my friends had her passport and Visa fee returned by the Pakistani Embassy in New York because they wouldn't give her a Visa even though they had done it before.

  7. Hey all! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. I flew to Pakistan to ring in the new year with my husband, and after 22 hours of traveling home to the U.S. I turned on my cell and found an e-mail from the NVC giving us an Interview date for Asim!!!!!!!!!!!!!! February 4th at 8 a.m......we're both a nervous wreck and thrilled that this day has finally come.

There are contradictory stories on picking English vs. Urdu in the interview process. He would be more comforable speaking Urdu, but I've heard the Pakistani interviewers are more harsh than the American interviewers. Any input anyone has would be more than welcome. I won't be attending the interview because of employment reasons.

  8. Just off hand, and I'd love to do some research, I can think of a lot of atrocities committed by Christians (including murder) towards others.... in America alone we have slavery in our history as a start, followed by other racists acts of violence, moving on to violence toward homosexuals and then the abortion doctors as mentioned above. If someone else can beat me to the research I'd love to see it. How many of the mass murderers in the last 15 years alone have been Christian?

And correct me if I'm wrong...but wasn't there a couple of events such as.....oh, I don't know.... THE INQUISITION, THE CRUSADES and THE HOLOCAUST that were all led by those who didn't tolerate the belief systems of others and committed genocide?

But my point was (and still is) that extremist beliefs and behavior that blur the boundaries of humane treatment and respect of others should not be tolerated from any source.

  9. Let's get real here, I seriously doubt that the US President has time to check with broadcasting schedules and purposely plots to block the "Christian" message inside a Charlie Brown cartoon. Plus, this particular special is only broadcasted at least 20 times between now and Christmas.

As far as the President's religious beliefs....get real there also. This sounds like your trying to stir up trouble in an already troubled world and that's the last thing any of us needs.

I'm Christian, my husband is Muslim and we love each other dearly and we're both wondeful, peac-loving, spiritual people. Muslims are 93% wonderful....Christians are 93% wonderful...it's the 7% of crazy religious zealots in the whole lot of things that create so many problems in this world. Do you want to be part of the 93% or the 7%?

  10. They are not all on dating sites, also from gaming sites.

Yup, gaming is how we met. It's very frustrating that people automatically assume if you met online, you must have been out looking. We get comments to that effect often and it irks me to the core.

That, and 'so erm, how do you guys... you know.... cope with being apart so much with...ahhhh....you know... intimacy?' MYOFB! lol

LMAO!!! What I find funny is that me and my guy are complete opposites on all the major stuff (religion, politics, etc) yet the one thing that stops people when I talk about him is that we met on the internet. Apparently they think he's a serial killer once that comes up. :P

Met my hubby on the internet, but not on a dating website....a social website and he was a friend of a friend.... I agree with the comment above...people seem to think meeting someone on the internet and falling in love is equal to contracting the plague. LOL

  11. Oh I also have a couple questions about the DS230, guys.

And if so, what did you guys do about the police certificate? My wife tried and they said you cannot get a police certificate unless you get the letter from the embassy. Does that have to be sent in with the DS230 packet or can we send it in later?

Do I understand this correctly: my wife can send me a filled out DS230 now (besides the signature and the date) plus all the accompanying documents so I can send them in to the NVC from the US? I searched a lot but I couldn't find what documents exactly need to be submitted with the DS-230 packet. Also did you send certified translation of the birth and marriage certificates, or the originals?

    http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/infor_3195.html

We just completed and submitted our DS-230 last Friday...this is the area where we found the instructions for everything you'll need, as well as a link to Islamabad's particular preferences on paperwork....

    Good Luck!

  12. My wife and I had our interview today. We went in with tons of documentation, and spent the night yesterday reviewing our entire relationship and quizzing each other.

The Officer asked for some documents, which we had copies of. Our lawyer actually had made a packet and he just handed the whole thing to her. She flipped thru it and asked us to verify some dates, our names, and some other information in the packet, then she said:

"Ok, this all looks good. You can keep your EAD for now, I'm supposed to take it but you keep it in case you're looking for work in the next couple of weeks. Please destroy it when you get your Green Card. You should get an approval letter within a week, unless I need more documentation in which case I'll let you know of that."

We left feeling great, I guess this means we passed!

    Congratulations!
