    WELCOME TO AMERICA MAGGIE!!!

Hello everyone! Im not sure where to post this question but i just wanted to know how did u apply for the ss#? Before we got married, my husband tried to apply for ss# but they told him that he needs to get an EAD first because it was a fiance visa. Im hoping that someone could answer my question. Im really worried. We filed the EAD application but still for it. It's almost a month now.

We took her passport, application, and her birth certificate (which they didn't even look at)

    No problems, no questions.

Mathew gets to pick his visa up TOMORROW MORNING!!

Oh thank goodness. I thought I was gonna die there for a while.

    EXCELLENT!!! CONGRATS! kicking.gifkicking.gif

    ------

    Looking for updates from Kjenkins.

    -----

    XOXOXO Jenn!!!

  2. Morning everyone!

I am sending everyone massive good vibes - Maggie for a safe arrival to your final destination (beaufort SC?), Kayla for the visa, and Krystle for the test results!!

Jenn - WE LOVE YOU. i'll be replying to your email in a little bit.

Things are wonderful with me and my honey. We spent the weekend in Austin so my parents could meet him - it went really well, everyone got along great and he feels like a part of my family now. He was able to communicate with them much better than i expected! my sweetie is awesome. We've had some bumpy patches but it's all normal couple adjustment stuff. His english classes are going very well, he got moved up to another level and now he feels like he's learning a lot and even wants to put in more studying on his own. it's fantastic and i can't wait to see everything he learns. Today we will hopefully be getting his SSN. Could be a giant pain in the ####### because we have to go in the afternoon after his classes and the wait will likely be crazy long. Oh well! Hopefully we will leave with a number though, and not get the run-around. we shall see...

in non-relationship news, had a traumatic experience with the mice that seem to have nested in my kitchen. they seem to have gotten pretty bold (or pretty desperate?) while were away for three days. Yesterday right after dinner, while we were sitting in the next room watching tv, we saw a mouse just calmly meandering on the stovetop! in bright light! with people home and lots of tv noise and talking! i ran out of the room and hid in the bedroom and wouldn't come out until my honey killed the mouse. i know i'm totally ridiculous but i can't handle them and now i have the image of it just wandering on top of my stove stuck in my head and i don't want to go home. okay silly girl babbling over.

hope everyone has a great day!

Glad everything is going well for you. I hope your trip for the SSN turns out like ours smooth, quick, and easy. She got her number the next day and the card within a week.

Every year mice get in our house. I don't know how and I don't know why, but the mommy comes in and has babies. I've looked for holes that they could slide in through, and nothing.

But they are VERY bold little creatures. One of them actually ran into the middle of my living room while I was sitting on the couch and just LOOKED AT ME. I even tried to scare it away and it still just sat right there and didn't move a muscle.

I hate mice. And I hate spiders. And I hate pollen. sad.gif

    Jenn, we love you.

Krystle I hope you get good news today!

Kayla, you do have some brave critters where you live. Are your possum gone now?

It was defintely a shock and disappointment to hear that I'm NOT pregnant, I really thought I was, haven't had my cycle since feb 21st. So don't know what the heck is going on. Made an appt to see her again 2mrw so lets see what happens. The assistant wasn't did me a favor to tell me over the phone and now I'm thinking if she read it correct because I'm in total disbelief. crying.gif

Kjenkins, I'm so sorry to hear your news. I hope they are wrong too!

No no no! The luck jar is re-filling, like you told me Krystle!!!! Although it's not a whole lot, my fiance got a call from his boss this morning! 4-8 Mon-Thurs starting on Wednesday! HE'S WORKING AGAIN! I'm pushing allllll my inflated optimism at everyone now! Things are starting to look up, and I'm praying SO HARD that they start looking up for everyone else too!!!! I know I haven't been posting from the very beginning (well, I technically have, but then I migrated to the Sept 09 CSC thread, and then came back) but I do care about you all, and I wish only the best for you. You've all listened to me rant in my short time returning to this thread, and I'm here if anyone needs an ear!!

PLEASE try and have a good day everyone!!!

Nothing wrong with inflated optimism, it has gotten me through some unreal days over the years. good.gif

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jenn, still thinking of you, XOXOXOX to you and Faut!!!

  3. Well, no good news today. Mathew called the Depot and the mail people couldn't find anything there for him and his mailman doesn't remember having a package for Mathew.

So I called the congressmans aide and gave her a list of questions to ask Montreal. Hopefully they'll bring us some good news tomorrow.

Oh, and by the way. Springtime, you suck. You and all of your pollen can kiss my hiney.

I hope they get back to you asap! Please let us know as soon as you hear something.

I don't mean to laugh but you are so funny! I hope you heasr good news tomorrow good.gifdancin5hr.gif

As for myself, went to the gyn today and she really thinks I'm pregnant. It sucks that the darn urine tests keep on coming back negative so I did a blood test and I'll get the results on monday ClockWatch2.gif

Blood test is much more accurate. Keep us posted!

omg! krystle!! I hope you are!!! fingers crossed!!!

    Kayla - Good Luck!!!

I got my visa in hand today after work =)

kicking.gifkicking.gif CONGRATS Maggie and Kenyth!!! kicking.gifkicking.gif

  4. Gosh, those are gorgeous Ney. Really, really beautiful.

Mathew still isn't back yet. Maybe that means good news??????

Thank you! So what is going on? Hopefully good news.

    those flowers are incredible!!!!!!!!! wow!

Thanks, it was really easy to put together.

    Thanks Ney... luv.gif

The flowers looking so good! rose.gif

    Thank you!!!

Everyone cross your fingers, toes, and your friends fingers and toes for me today. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna need y'all to just go ahead and find a crossing buddy and cross yourselves together for me.

Do you have your crossing buddy????? wink.gif

All is crossed, still waiting to hear the news.

Frenzy you've joined the luckiest group ever so things will work out.

We're currently in the process of refilling our "luck jar" so as soon as it's full again Matthew will be in KY with Kayla and your money issues will be solved.

Kayla, me & Glenoi are crossed & locked in hopes of some good news for you today.

Frenzy, Kjenkins is right this is really a lucky group, and I too believe things will work out.

Still looking for good news from Kayla!!!

  5. CONGRATS TO JENN AND FAUT!!!!

Maggie, I'm so happy that everything is on track for you.

Kayla, I hope you get the visa soon.

Kjenkins, May 1st will be a beautiful day!!!

Frenzy, I think it's great that you both are choosing to wait.

4Love, I hope everything falls into place for quickly.

We have been through two wedding this week, one on the 7th with the Iman, and then the Cinderella wedding yesteday. They are officially husband and wife in both countries now (Iran doesn't recognize a union that has not been done in the muslim way).

  6. Maggie text me this morning and her papers did get there for her!!! Now it's all just smooth sailing from here.

    YEAAAA FOR MAGGIE!! ! kicking.gif

I'll blow you some when my confirmation comes star_smile.gif I mean your son and daughter in law!

    rofl.gif ROTFL rofl.gif Thank you!!! LOL rofl.gif

I just called dos again and was told that our visa hasn't been printed and that it's still in processing. I asked her how that could be since I was told last week and again yesterday that our visa had been printed, just not mailed. I'm so upset I could cry. I am crying, actually. How could they tell me one thing and then suddenly tell me another???

Kayla, I'm sorry. I hate that they can't get thier story straight. I hope they get it right soon!

  7. OH, I HOPE HOPE HOPE everything works out alright for Maggie. I am getting stressed just reading about it.

Yes.. I am still here. I shut down my facebook, because I logged in the other day and a bunch of messages had been SENT from my account.. all written in Cyrillic Alphabet. I did not write them.... I came back to Facebook today and it happened again about an hour later, so I deactivated it again and have contacted Facebook. I am hoping I am not going to have to create a new profile. That would be a big pain.

A brief update... the "transition" from Turkey to the USA is not going as easily as we had hoped. I cannot imagine coming here if I had NEVER been out of my own country.. and going from one extreme culture to another. We'll be ok.. but it's been a rough two weeks and we keep having bad things happen... one minute we're happy and everything is fine.. and the next.. something happens that upsets him or me.. or both...

and we are having difficulties about my cat. He doesn't like animals living in the house.. she's a pampered baby and has NO claws at all, so I can't even let her outside. It's been a sore spot..truth is I don't want to have to choose between him and my "baby" of 15 years.. but I am not sure he can adjust to her.. not sure he can adjust to this country. So.. my waiting game has not ended... even with him here, we are still playing "wait and see"

But I don't want to make it all sound negative. It's not.. I just wish we could have one good day without a failed drivers test, or manager at work treating him like an idiot, or cat jumping on the counter in the kitchen and freaking him out, or homesickness, or anything.. just one day that goes well, with no issues, would be a blessing. We have a wonderful time together, but he needs a little less stress right now...

Maggie.. holding my breath for you.. Kayla and Krystle.. I'm knitting baby things ( and I don't know how to knit)

Ney.. how is your daughter-in-law adjusting? I know she and Fuat come from similiar cultures, and hers is even more strict than his. Is she ok? Overwhelmed??? Surviving??

So far so good, but she is still in a daze with all of the traveling and the wedding planning. I had two sister-in-laws that came to America about 12 or 13 years ago and both of them told me on many occassions it takes around 2 years to really adjust to America and for the home sickness to subside. I have been warning her through this entire process that she will have horrid bouts of home sickness and want to give it all up and go home. I did this so she would be ready to experience all these feelings and would prepare herself to deal with them.

You really need to read some of the MENA posts and see different ways they have handled it. Keep Faut as busy as you can! Let him know that what he is feeling is normal and everyone that leaves thier family, hometown, and more so thier country experience it. Let him know that it will get better in time, and he is not alone in what he feels. If there is a group of Turkish people he can communicate with it may help. Be as supportive as possible no matter how hard it may seem at the time. Finds some stores near you where he can gain access to familar things. Last but not least continue to remind him how you feel about him and that you are there for him.

I'm sorry it is difficult but it is going to happen to some degree to each person that goes through this process.

We're here when ever you want to talk!!!

Hey guys. Just figured I'd drop this info here. This thread will get locked soon due to the size of it (kills the servers when threads get too big I think), so maybe start a new one? smile.gif

Also, congrats to everyone on your recent progress and good luck to those who is yet to interview!!!

Thank you for the congrats and preparing us for what is about to take place!

I am on BC, but I also missed a couple of days worth of pills right before he surprise visited me. There's a 50/50 chance either way but I wont be taking any more of those pills until I find out if I am or not. And I'm not even letting out a peep to him about it until I know for sure either.

As bad as I want a baby, I don't know if I would say that right now is the perfect time. Mathew and I have ALWAYS been LD and I think we need some time together to just be married and together. Of course, if it turns out that I am we're going to love it and consider ourselves blessed because so many other people in this world can't have children but I would prefer to wait a bit.

But this anxiety is killing me!!! ClockWatch2.gif

    You'll know soon enough!!!

Oh ok, yea don't continue the pills unless you know for sure. Someone blew baby dust our way biggrin.gif

LOL, baby dust!!! rofl.gifrofl.gif Hey blow some down here, but please miss my daughter her youngest is 3 months. No worres about me I tied it up years ago rofl.gif Hit my son and daughter-in-law!!! devil.gif

So thaaaaaaaaaaaaat's what you girls call it laughing.gif

    LOL, among many things!

I realllllly hope Maggie's interview goes better than mine ended up. With the weather in Rio, SDU (which is right next to the consulate) is closed, and the consulate is closed as well and is expected to be closed the remainder of the week (as this terrible weather is expected to continue until then). L's flight into SDU was cancelled of course, but mine into GIG was just "delayed" and I was able to talk my airline into giving me an open ended rebooking due to the weather.

I'm sorry everything seems crazy for you right now. I hope everything turns in your favor soon!

  8. Ney I'm still not sure but I'll let everyone know as soon as I find out. star_smile.gif

She was picked up at the airport? I thoughtbshe was staying at your inlaws? Anyhow congratulations tol you and your family again and it sounds like you have an exciting week ahead of you! Have fun! good.gif

I know at one point you'd expressed a desire for a baby, so I hope you get your wish.

She arrived at my sister-in-laws on Friday with my brother-in-law then she spent the evening with them in DC, Then flew to Memphis Saturday where we picked her up from the airport. The only reason we did all of this is because her mom wanted her escorted, an my brother-in-law was already schedule to be in Dubai on business and when he goes there he usually flies to Iran to visit his family too. It worked out for all of us.

  9. Well Jenn.........................................................While I would love to come to VA and get on a few coasters, I'm almost 2 weeks late and I don't think pregnant women can ride coasters no0pb.gif

    OMG... kicking.gif

    WOW... kicking.gif

    OMG--- kicking.gif

    CONGRATS!!! kicking.gif

    THAT IS SOOOOO AWESOME! kicking.gif

    WE HAVE A CO-SPONSOR!!!!!! good.gif

Glad to hear everything worked out for you.

hey guys, sorry i haven't been around! i'm back at work tomorrow so i'll have more time. but really it's fantastic having my honey here. today we opened a joint checking account and joined a gym for a killer price. he will be on his own for the rest of the week, but i got him keys and took him around the neighborhood yesterday, so he should have things to do.

    hope all is well!

I'm soooo happy for you both!!! kicking.gif

So Maggies letter came through and her medical was approved. All that's left for her is to receive her I-134 and then her interview on Thursday. I thought it was tomorrow but it's actually Thursday. So lets all send good luck and wishes Maggies way!

Wow, what a scare that must have been for Maggie. I'm glad all is well now!

Najmeh made it safely. My son was so funny on the way home from the airport, he kept looking at her saying "I feel like this is all a dream"

We had a "Welcome to America" dinner Saturday evening, and a good old fashion egg hunt and BBQ on Sunday. I spent Monday helping her find a gown which was no easy task, I forgot how much those things weigh. The smallest her favorite gown came in was a 4 and there is no time for altering it seeing that the wedding is on Friday, soooo she had to select another gown. My mother-in-law comes in this evening, my daughters birthday is tomorrow, and the wedding is Friday. I'm so looking foward to next weekend when I know everything went well and I can breath agian.

    Have a wonderful day!!!

  10. She is officially out of Iran!!! Last email I got was from Amsterdam!

We are central standard time. Iran is 9 1/2 hours ahead, Amsterdam 7 hours ahead, and DC is 1 hour ahead. She is moving back in time and the flight times are just so crazy to look at. She should be in DC around 4:00 PM today (my time). My son has been scrubbing toilets with a smile, rofl.gif I never thought in a million years I'd see that! She will spend the night with my inlaws, get some much needed rest (She has been traveling since around 6:00 AM yesterday morning (my time), starting with a 7 hour rode trip.), and she will be home tomorrow around noon.

    It's all so surreal!

  11. It's crazy what people will spend on weddings! I was googling for thrifty wedding suggestions and found this "thrifty blog" ... who was sooo proud that she spent "only" (over) $6,000 on HER clothes for the wedding! And I won't even get into ranting about the unfortunate times I've flipped past all those miscellaneous wedding shows on TV and how much money they were just throwing at it... Granted, *we* are throwing a great deal of money at immigration, so I suppose it's just a matter of priorities.

I'm a very visual peson, so my recommendation is to search youtube for hand tied bridal bouquet for some tutorials. smile.gif

LOL, some thrifty blog huh. Yes, it's an important day but come on. I think it's smarter to pour the money into your bank account or your home than on one day of your life that you can make just as beautiful on a dime.

YouTube is great, I love thier video tutorial. You can learn how to do anything there. I went to the dollar store and picked up some beads to add to the bouquet and ribbon to wrap the stems. Closer to the wedding I'm going to Costco to pick up the flowers, they have beautiful fresh flowers for very reasonable prices.

I've also used YouTube to learn how to do updos and learn how to make ribbon and paper roses. You can learn anything from belly dancing to how to play the guitar on that site. A lot of people think YouTube is only about music and jokes but it has sooo much more to offer.

If Mathew doesn't call about his vehicle compliance letter today I'm going to strangle him. mad.gif

Kayla wait until after you're married to kill him. whistling.gif

    Maggie good luck doll!!!

  12. as for me, i've only got to sleep two more nights without my honey. i cannot WAIT until friday night!!

Oh Wow, that is wonderful!!! I know you are sooo happy. Well, I guess you will be disappearing for awhile soon. wink.gif

Najmeh will be here but she will be in DC.

    ==

Thanks Maggie!!! I'm going to put hubby to work as soon as he gets home!

    ==

Krystal, that sounds great. It will be beautiful and wonderful memories for you to have wedding photos. Me and hubby married via JP and we have no pictures only mental memories, and throughout the years my kids have asked about pictures of our wedding. All we have is our marriage certificate. Back when me and hubby got married digital pictures didn't exist, there were no cell phone cameras, and regular cameras were expensive not to mention developing the film. When my daughter decided to marry she they said JP I said NO, so they had a simple yet beautiful wedding with plenty of pics. Then my son said JP I said NO, I told him Najmeh had already shared gowns that she loved, so agian simple yet beautiful. I read something recently that said something to the effect of... A typical wedding costs 20,000 (RIDICULAS) you can have a beautiful, elegant wedding for a very reasonable price if you shop around. If's not being cheap, it's called being smart.

    ==

Kayla, I imagine after the fact it was funny but good god. I hope he gets it soon.

  13. Hi Ney, thingsare happening so fast. I'm happy for you and your family that she's out of AP and will soon be here.

About the EAD, they just want more of our money and they want it fast because why couldn't they just give a temporary EAD, valid for 90 days? Ugh, whatever me and my wishful thinking.

Time flies when you're going nuts! blink.gif

Me and my son got him moved into his new place. We had to do it alone because the condo was not ready in time, my hubby is out of town on business now, my son-in-law is working long hours, and my daughter is taking care of two babies. Eric won't get the washer, dryer, and some other really big things until Najmeh is here because I ran out of muscle. Between his move, my daughters paint job, and getting everything arranged for the wedding, I'm so sore I'm not sure if I can get my own home in order before company comes in. Can we say Ney is NO spring chicken anymore!!! rofl.gif

yeah my friend at work is going to check on them and overnight it to the hotel. Kenyth is also doing another package tomorrow and over nighting it to me as well at the hotel.

I don't like the news about the visa Kayla...

I hope he receives it soon.

I'm sorry Maggie, I was really hoping it would show up today. I am glad you have someone who can help.

GOOD LUCK!!! Looking forward to your good news! good.gif

Okay good! At least you've got a way to get it in time.

I know that some of the Canadian VJers have had to wait like 2 weeks for their visa to finally arrive, but I was hoping we wouldn't be one of those couples. I should just be thankful that we're approved but the CO said that the visa would be mailed Wednesday and it should arrive Friday or Monday. Today is Tuesday. I just wonder if DOS ALWAYS gets a hit on everything that goes on, or if it's like the USCIS online website, and sometimes misses updates.

I wish I had an answer for you. Keep on them!

  14. For Maggie....

    (Stop)

Oh yes, wait a minute Mister Postman

    (Wait)

    Wait Mister Postman

Please Mister Postman, look and see

    (Oh yeah)

If there's a letter in your bag for Maggie

    (Please, Please Mister Postman)

Why's it takin' such a long time

    (Oh yeah)

For her to hear from that boy of hers

There must be some word today

From her boyfriend so far away

Please Mister Postman, look and see

If there's a letter, a letter for Maggie

So many days you passed her by

See the tears standin' in her eyes

You didn't stop to make Maggie feel better

By leavin' her a card or a letter

(C'mon deliver the letter, the sooner the better)

    Mister Postman

He's gotta give it up today. Hold on Maggie he's comin your way!!!
