  1. is there a time limit for AP? for example something that says after so many months they have to make a decision on your case.

I think I can handle 4-5 months without loosing my mind, checking my status, calling and so on but 13 months in AP is too damn long

Nope, no time limit...there was a case in India where it took 8 years!! I think it was the first case where the petitioner filed a writ of mandamus, and the judge ordered the staff at the embassy at that time, where the case was under review, to make a decision.

  2. Tracking AP can be so difficult since each consulate does things different... Our AP is very different from yours.. Just talked to DoS and they said to call back every day because should be finished soon...

Oh I'm so pleased to hear that there's been some movement in your case and that hopefully you'll be getting your approval very soon!!

I called DoS for the first time in a few weeks and the lady I spoke to I didn't recognise, but I appreciated how straightforward she was: "Your case is still being processed in Washington DC". That's all she said, none of the usual 'it's pending, I don't know where or why'. My husband's senator made an inquiry and surprise, surprise, got exactly the same generic response that we get when we email the embassy.

We aren't in AP anymore...we are "Returned for Recommended Revoke of Approval"....in other words...embassy denied as they could. Is there a forum for these cases? Cuz i know there are a lot of them...cuz its no AP right? Its fighting off a denial?

    Monica :)

Well if it's been denied it's hardly in additional administrative processing is it?

  3. Congratulaions!!!

Personally I think you're right to wait for your anniversary - there's a huge difference between choosing to stay in the UK for a little bit longer with a date in mind, and external factors with no end in sight.

I'm so pleased for you two - I bet you've already ordered that new certificate Andrew, and Traci must be overjoyed!!! Fingers crossed the final few steps are trouble-free

  4. Was beginning to think we would never see our case under completed - came as a total shock! Now we wait for the outcome  Trying to keep busy all day and not think too much about it  Hoping we will finally get a break and get some good news for a change

It's nice to hear from you again treehugger - hope this latest round of approvals is a sign that things are going to start moving positively for all.

    Take care,

    Traci x

Gosh it must be hard, I don't know how you all cope!! Thanks, I hope so too...in fact Whatznext, whose husband had his interview exactly two years ago, has just had news of movement on their case, so perhaps it being the summer all those lovely people working on our cases are in a good mood and would like to spread the love around :P

  5. For the name bit, do they look at both the first and last, or first and not last or the opposite?

My fiance now shares my last name (Asmar) which is not a hugely common Arabic name, but her previous last name was Mohammed, which is extremely common. Her first name is not very common either.

    Misunderstandings happen - let's start again :)

I do hope your wife doesn't undergo AP, and that if she does it's as short as possible. I notice in your timeline that you got married exactly four months ago, but you still refer to your wife as your fiancee - I still feel a little weird referring to my husband as that  , and whereas it could simply be a slip of the tongue if your wife made a similar mistake during her interview it could potentially cause problems.

Are you still waiting for your NOA2?

  6. Ok...it may just be me, but he started the post saying male & female....my question would be, would everyone be freaking out as muc if he said "It would be interesting if anyone who had a male undergo AP could share their experience. Was it quick/short, something to concern myself with at this point in my immigration process?" I guess I'm also used to my fiance talking and wording things a little differently sometimes. I think AP is getting ppl a little tense here  Lets try to give the guy a break & help instead of critisize right away.

    Monica :)

Yes, I would also have objected, because by referring simply to 'a male' instead of a male SO it implies that people, both men and women, are just objects. And despite my objection, I did inform the OP that I was in AP myself for over 20 weeks now, and I'm sure he noticed the Union Jack in the corner...all that really says is 'when it comes to AP, expect the unexpected'.

  7. Hey VJers, hows everyone hanging in there.... me not so great.... had one of those days today where u just really hate everything becasue of this stupid AP. I see we got a few new people added, I'm sorry you're here we hope your AP wont be too long but theres a lot of great pple on here who are suffering too and they make a great support system. I think if i ever get out of this, im always going to remeber everyone here. like im noticing now more than ever that is not just mena people or muslims its truly pple from all over the world. AP doesnt disrciminate, bad luck is what i call it.

If you read through the posts on the MENA forum you'll see that there have been quite a few approvals recently without AP - and the beneficiaries (currently all are male) receiving their visas within days of their interviews. No one really knows the precise reasons why we get put in the black hole, but we all know it's somewhere we'd not rather be!!

  8. I dont blame you for wanting to take a break from all things Visa. I read your post to that A$$, I mean person... that suposedly was a journalist but wants to know if anyone ever had a women :hehe: I was going to say something... but you sounded WAy more educated than I would ... hehehehehehehe

When you were counting your 90 days did you take away all holidays and weekends? Are did you just count 90 days from your interview date? I find it soooo weird that the CO told you the same thing... it haunt me and I know it does you.. I wish they would of told me at the interview I was on AP... instead they told us Congrats you are approved... handed my Husband a Welcome to America pamplet... then I asked the Lady CO if we could pick up the passport/visa instead of waiting on it to be mailed and she said yes!! uggggh I have nightmares.

Well, I just saw my husband back in May/June... So I guess you could say that I have already seen him :( I am trying to make plans if not just in my head to see him in October after it has cooled off a little bit..

Our 90th day is Aug 19th... keeping my fingers crossed

    Hehe, no comment!

I counted every day, and I think almost everyone else does too. Hopefully you'll see Amit again soon, preferably when he arrives in the US

  9. Oh I'm on tenterhooks, hoping that Traci & Andrew get good news!! I thought jnurse was approved quite a while ago, how come it's only just shown up? JustJ, what news do you have?

I took a break from VJ, calling DOS and even thinking about my visa, and it certainly felt good! Back to reality now, because although we have to get on with living our lives, it is impossible to completely ignore it when it, or the lack of it, has such an enormous impact on our lives. Wishing everyone here all the best (F)

  10. i called dos today bc like i said i was having a crapola of a morning so im like ugh lemme just do it. I did, and got chris for the first time ever. Hes not really that nice, and i kinda felt stupid talking to him lol. like i would ask questions and he would answer them really uninterested. Anywayz so our convo kinda went like so im checking to see the status of my husbads visa, hes like well the embassy is processing it. Considering it was the first time ever i had heard that, im like wat do u mean processing it? well to see if hes going to get the visa issued to him or not. im like ok so they are processing in and its not just the general term AP. he got quiet bc im sure he was thinking i was nuts. Than i was like so its not in D.C. hes like no. so im like ummmmm ok. thanx. hahahaha i felt really lame. so u guys, wat do u think it means now that its at the embassy, according to him, at least. anywayz,,,,,,, it was the the first time i heard processing and not pnding, even tho both prolly mean the same. Hey scottthuy, if u read this wat do u think it might mean? or am i getting excited for nothing?

Nearly two months ago Chris told me that my case was no longer in Washington and that it was back at the embassy (figuratively speaking)....my husband and I were hopeful that the wait was almost over...two weeks went by and I called DOS, specifically asking wether the namechecks in DC were ongoing and she said yup, and I don't know why you were told that they had finished. I'm not the first he's hinted at good news to, only for us to still be 'pending'.

  11. hey tree! Darn i tought you were gone for a while cuz you were busy packing and traveling to the usa to post here! darn sorry your still in AP thats what bothers me the msot also. most of us were told youll get the visa in a couple of days then we were put in AP, what the HECK! ugh. I hope you here good news soon Tree

Thanks MQ :) Did you fax the embassy? What are you both doing to keep yourselves busy?

  12. Actually, I thought you were sexist. Don't presume to think that I was being racist. And seeing that you were the one that brought up religion, you don't need me to tell you that Islam is not a race. And seeing that sexists exist in every society, culture and religion, I wasn't being Islamophobic either. If anything you're the one who's making assumptions about me - that just because I'm from the UK I must think that every 'heathen' from a 'Muslim' country must be so incredibly backward, ignorant, etc. I've been on VJ for quite a while now, and certainly more active than you, and yet you must be the first to accuse me of being bigoted. I wonder why?

Additionally, and I mean this genuinely, your English is better than most 'native' speakers, so if it is indeed your second language you should be very proud. And it's not just your punctuation, but your grammar, style and vocabulary. If you choose to see this as being patronising...<shrugs shoulders>

  13. Hello everyone, how are you all? :)

I decided to take a break from all things visa related, including VJ - it was good to stop thinking about it!! I thought I'd come and have a look and see what's going on...I didn't know whether I'd just lurk or join in, but when the first thing I read was the male/female AP thread and what I saw as an extremely offensive post, how could I not reply :bonk:

Anyway - a quick look shows me that no one has left the black hole :( What's going on??? I've been in AP for 141 days now, so much for the 90 days figure. It looks like I'll be lucky to get done by 180 days, that's SIX months :crying: I still can't get over the 'you're good to go, you'll get your passport back in a few days'.

Is anyone making any plans to see their SOs over the summer?

  14. It would be interesting if anyone who had a female undergo AP could share their experience. Was it quick/short, something to concern myself with at this point in my immigration process?

"Anyone who had a female undergo AP"??? Your English is far too good to give you the benefit of the doubt...is this always how you address women?

My husband has a female who is currently undergoing AP (in case you hadn't guessed, that's me) - she's been in AP for 20 weeks now.

PS what makes you think that there aren't female petitioners here, and/or female posters? Yikes. :wow:

  15. :( I feel like I'm having a nervous break down today. My stomach is upset, i'm shaking, and I can't focus. THIS SUCKS!!!! Isn't this inhumane? SERIOUSLY!!!

After a while you really do become numb to the whole situation. Sometimes I think I'd rather they said it'll take X long, at the end of which you'll have your visa, than being in limbo. For now at least, I've decided to stop thinking about it. There's nothing my husband or I can do, so we should just get on with our lives as best as we can.

  16. I called DOS this morning and spoke to a young guy???<this was a first> Not that he was helpful... but he was very pleasant to speak with, I asked him to update me on whats going on... well of course we are still under review... I asked where Washington... he said NO the case is being reviewed at the consulate... I was like #######.. then I asked him why on Monday did they say that we were being reviewed at Washington... sooo confusing... I am going to call back this afternoon and see what they say... how come some ppl can see things and others cant.. it is like they are looking at different computer screens... or maybe they dont know what all the abbreviations mean. Last week when we called the embassy I was told that we are under an internal review but that they do share files with Washington... what is the difference?

Was it Chris? He's the only guy I've spoken to...the last time I got him he told me that my case was finished in Washington and that it was back at the embassy...I got very excited, thinking yay, I could be getting my visa soon. Approximately a fortnight passed and nothing, I called again and specifically asked, and they said no, it's still in Washington. I'm sorry, but I forgot who else on here he gave the impression that good news was around the corner, end of May, only for nothing to change :(
