  1. I had my interview on April 29th also in Holtsville unfortunately I still did not get any letter for my oath yet :( I checked on the uscis tracker with my receipt number and it still shows the same status that my letter was sent out for interview processing etc etc. I'm not sure how much longer they will take to schedule me but im crossing my fingers they do it soon. The officer did mention to me it'll be in central islip court and that they were sending out letters for oath dates for mid may.. now that you told me you have your oath on may 20th, with no letter received yet im guessing I wont be in for may which sucks! When did you have your interview and get your oath letter? I don't know what's taking them so long.

Also will you apply for your passport during the ceremony or do it separately? Are you also planning on applying for the I-130 as well, if so do keep me posted!

Alright... Interview was on april 23rd, and my online status changed to oath ceremony notice sent on may 6th.

so looks like your status will change very soon and the oath letter will follow. BTW i am also in Floral Park.

  2. Hey guys! Hoping someone can help me out with this. So I just passed my naturalization interview now waiting to get my oath ceremony letter and my naturalization certificate! Obviously this will probably take another month ;(. I want to file for my husbands I-130 as soon as possible and do not want to wait another few weeks for my passport. Is it okay if I can just file for the I-130 with my naturalization certificate? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! ;)

Hi Zeba, I dont think U need to send in copies of your passport for that. Just copy of Natz Cert. should be good. They want proof of your citizenship.

where did you have your interview for N 400? Holtsville? and when? I am scheduled for oath ceremony on may 20th @ central islip court.

  3. Friends.......

This is timeline for NY Holtsville office long island. While my case was pending i searched and searched for holtsville timeline to get the idea, BUT there were not many posts about it. Some folks only posted when there was delay and once they get moving they disappeared, leaving that timeline incomplete. I would like to post my timeline so that, in future someone like me can atleast get the idea of this office.

My application was based on 3 year marriage to USC.

    N-400 filed sept 10 2013

they rejected the case saying filed too early.. Infact that was their error on sept 22 2013

I re-filed the case with detailed explaination and told them to open their eyes. on sept 28 2013

my case got accepted and priority date was given oct 15 2013

fingerprint done in last week of november 2013

Interview letter for march 5 2014

Interview descheduled letter on march 2 2014 * just 3 days before interview.

another interview letter in end of march 2014 for interview on april 23rd 2014. Result: passed and recommended for approval. Interview itself was very quick, IO was in some kind of rush. asked test questions went thru the application and made me sign some paperwork, took 3 years tax returns, one utility bill, and one cable bill, and said we are done. and look for oath letter in the mail in 2 weeks. There are confirmed reports that holtsville office DOES give you oath letter after the interview, when i asked him if i should wait for the oath letter he pointed towards the door and said , dont worry you'l get it , you'l get it in the mail. and that was end of it.

Just today may 6th 2014 i got this.

    Oath Ceremony

On May 6, 2014, we scheduled you for your oath ceremony and sent a notice providing the date, time, and location. If you move prior to the scheduled ceremony, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

I dont know what day will be the oath ceremony as of now but i will report when i get the letter.

    WHAT A RELIEF.

  4. Online Status Says:

    Testing and Interview

On March 31, 2014, your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was scheduled for interview. You will receive a notice with a time and place for your interview.

Oh alright... just keep an eye on it , online status is not 100 % updated, but in my case it always gave me update before i got any letter from uscis.

    you will get it soon.

  5. I just came back from my interview for U.S. citizenship (N400) everything went great; I answered all the questions correct, there were no issues, IO went thru each and every single column of N-400 app, also verified entries on my passports and then he manually added my recent overseas trip, after that officer gave me a “Review form” to verify my personal contact details on a sheet (I said it looks good) then asked me to sign on my snaps also n-400 app afterwards he handed over N652 form with following checked box:

    B) A decision can’t yet be made about your application.

    • Notify USCIS if you change your add
    • Come to any scheduled interview.
    • Submit all requested docs
    • Send any questions about this application in writing to IO.
    • Go to any Oath Ceremony that you are scheduled to attend.
    • Notify USCIS as soon as possible in writing if you can’t come to any scheduled interview or Oath Ceremony. Include a copy of this paper and a copy of the schedule notice.

Before leaving he said do you have any question I’m like I do but it’s applicable to ask at this situation I'm like WHEN IS A NEXT OATH DATE ;) He’s like I can’t tell you because supervisor needs to review your file first! I then I asked him how long this might take ? he gave me his standard proceeding timeframe 120 days straight up I told him that I know it's gona take for ever because I never had a good luch with immigration prcoess !

Anyway fox, what do you think where do I stand? See I couldn’t cherish passing this interview moments due to creepy “decision can’t be made”? Nevertheless your positive feedback will bring a little smile on my face :)

Roughly how long this may take ?

    Regards

Did you check your online status??? what does it say as of now?...

  6. Congratulations! I just want to ask you what do you mean by updating your SSN? Thanks and good luck!

    Raluca

only_me got the letter for oath, so as usual members have no need to log back on to forums, since they do not need any more help.

what only_me meant by updating ssn was, you have to update your record with social security administration from green card holder to USC.

  7. Finally,I got my letter in the mail today, for my Oath ceremony!

I just want to thank to all of u that gave me a lot of support during this long process, and had patience to answer my questions! :)

After Oath,I know I need to update my ssn...do I need to update my paperwork at my job?

    Thank you all again!!!

Congrats,,, would you please share... if your online status changed before you got the oath letter? what your online status says right now? and when is you oath date?

    Thank you.

  8. Thanks so much VISAJOURNEY.COM ,finally I am done with this US visa process . I had my oath taking to be a naturalized US citizen .From the start of my visa process, this website had been so helpful to me in my entire process.

In return, I am happy to help some of those people here who have some question...I will answer all your question to the best of knowledge

Hey, want to help...? start with your timeline and interview details.

    It will help others.

  9. Thanks you guys!!goofy.gif

My naturalization interview lasted about twenty-five minutes, it was a little bit over an hour wait time included. We got there a little before eight and I was back at work by nine-fifteen. After a cursory fingerprinting and check in, we had to wait a bit till my name was called.

The interview went well, the female blonde officer was incredibly nice and put me at ease right from the beginning. She was pleasant and courteous and joked a lot. She asked me the regular "are you a Communist?" "Are you a terrorist?" "Are you a polygamist?" type questions, followed by the civics questions - I got the first six right and so she put an end to it.

    Questions asked were:

    What does the Cabinet do?

What did the Declaration of Independence do?

How many Supreme Court justices are there?

How many years is a US Senator elected for?

Who takes over in case the President and the Vice President are unable to fulfill their obligations?

Name one branch of the government.

She also threw in "what is Einstein's famous theory?" in the middle of that and I answered before I realized she just kidding. She took out my approval notice and said she was so confident that I'd ace it that she'd already signed it and kept it ready. And I was proud just like any good History geek would be. kicking.gif

Then I had to read and write a sentence to demonstrate English proficiency. And that was it!

I was amazed to see my file on her desk - enormous - and actually asked her, "is that all mine?" and she laughed and said it was because I immigrated through marriage. Thinking back to those awful CR-1 visa waiting days, it is definitely heartening to know that it hadn't just disappeared into a huge black hole and that someone ( in fact several people) had gone over it quite carefully. The case of the missing wedding DVD was also uncovered as it turned out Mr. Sachinky had submitted that with my original petition.

She returned all my pictures and said she recognized "the ginger from the pictures in the waiting room." She asked me how my marriage was doing and if we planned on having any children.

I will say that my impression of USCIS has gone up several notches based on (what is hopefully) my last interaction with them. The lady told me a bit about herself, she used to work in the immigrant visa section in the middle East and she said it was awful. She said how being lied to her face day after day was numbing and how she'd cry in the bathroom for hours at the state of humanity.

She gave me her personal number and told me to call her so that we could schedule a field trip for the school kids (I teach kindergarten at a private academy). She said that she wanted them to see a positive aspect of immigration - how often they are portrayed poorly in the media for one screw up despite getting a hundred things right. I said most people recognize that they have a hard job and given the number of people who are trying to abuse the system, the scrutiny is understandable.

She commended me for being thorough and prepared and truth be told, navigating the US immigration system (mostly on my own) is something I am quite proud of. Special mention must be made of visajourney.com without which I wouldn't have been nearly as successful. wub.png

Sachinky, what a boring interview you had, I was looking to read if the officer asked for any documents from you. Congratssssssssssssss.

  10. am sorry icant help, but am looking too for any body went to raleigh durham office to share their experiences as istill waiting for them to to schedule me for interview...ifilled back in sep 13...

I am looking for same thing for my DO but the thing is, as soon as VJ member gets done with this process, they hardly log back in, only very few visit VJ ,after their process is done. So what i have been doing is searching the web for past timelines. I would suggest you do the same.

  11. So after 1 year and 3 months I had my interview with my wife today...

Appointment was at 8:30am at the Oakland Park, FL office. We arrived there around 8:00am and couldn't check-in till 8:15. So the wait began. At 9:15 my name was finally called. We were greeted by a very unhappy officer. She barely introduced herself and was unfriendly. She took us to her office and swore us in. We were told to ###### down. She began with basic questions about our application, name, address, etc... Then she asked what other evidence I brought. At this point we still haven't had any sort of conversation, my wife even thought she rolled her eyes at one point. She just seemed like she hated her job and didn't want anything from us. She then asked for more recent bank statements. I told her that I didn't bring last month. She then told us that we needed to go to the nearest bank and get the statement. The interview was over after 10-15 minutes. We left, went to the bank per her request, and came back around 10am. We told the front desk and she called our office and told her we were back. We waited another hour and I finally went back to the front desk and asked if she forgot about us or what was going on. She called the officer and she said that we could have just left the statement with the front desk. Are you serious?!?!?!? We finally left around 11am and got some food because we were starving.

So now I have no clue what happened and where I stand. DId I get approved? Did I fail? Is there another interview? Any information of what's next would of been helpful. I assumed when we came back with the bank statements we would talk more. Anyone have any idea where I stand ?

sorry to hear that, I would also be wondering about the outcome of the interview. I am sure who ever she deals with, those ppl are gone case. I really want to express my self about her, but i cant due to TOS reasons. But you get the point.

Lets see whats next for you, keep checking case status, and good luck.

  12. I just got a text saying that my status has been updated and as per the USCIS website I have been placed "in line for interview".

My field office is New York City since I live in NY. I just checked and the field office for Suffolk County is also New York City. Their processing times are 5.1 months or 5 months and 1 week, as per the USCIS processing times tool.

Thats nice, Now lets see when is gonna be next update for interview.

  13. I am hoping to get notification of "in-line for interview" today. I have not received any text or email as of 10 a.m. EST but i will keep checking back.

You should get it between 11 am to 3 pm. Thats when I got my message alerts from uscis. I just notice you filed from NYC , what is you field office? Mine is Holtsville suffolk county office. I dont know how much backed up that is.

  14. Can we travel with just the certificate of citizenship? I am booked to leave Jan 9 for three weeks in Asia...I have my Canadian passport and a Nexus card, but what if I get interview and oath before I go...can I get back into USA with just that certificate? There won't be time for me to get a passport.

as much as i know.........No... you must have the passport to travel, naturalization certificate is proof of citizenship only, not good for travel. and If you are citizen of USA and entering back into USA you should/must use US passport at POE.

  15. We arrived about 15 minutes before our interview time. Tanya was called almost immediately. She came out a few minutes later and said the fingerprint machine was not working and they would call her back in. She asked how long and the guy said " I hope you brought a pillow, because it might take a while.". About an hour later they called her back in. She was brought to an office. The case worker swore her in and then told her to sit. He started to ask her the civics questions right away. She got the first six correct. She could only remember 4 of the questions he asked. " What is the party of the president right now". "Name the two main political parties in the U.S." What are three of the original States". Who was the first President". He told her to read: " The United States has 50 States". Then he told her to write: "We have 50 States". Then after the test, he took out a very thick file he had for her. He went over every question on the N-400. After this he told her congratulations and gave her a form which said she passed. then he told her she was done and she would get a notice in the mail for the oath ceremony. Because of the fingerprint snafu, it took about 2 hours total. (BTW, they never did fingerprint her.)

In our preparations we went over her N-400 a few times so she was ready for this part of the interview. There is also a great USCIS video on you tube about the whole interview process. It a simulated interview and was a great help to her. Good luck everyone!

Congrats, during interview no papers were asked? like proofs or anything?

  16. i am a single mom and live in big spring and interview is in elpaso,i have no one to leave him with, so am taking him with me to elpaso.

Tried to find sitter in el paso for couple hours ,but am afraid to leave him with someone i dont know.

    Thanks

In that case, if it was me, I would take him with me to the interview and take it from there. maybe interviewer will be nice enough to let him be with you while being interviewed. I think these offices have children play room area of some sort. But i would not leave him with unknown baby sitter.

  17. I received another email last night saying that my interview has been scheduled. Is there a way to find out the date of the interview before receiving the letter?

    Yes there is:

Tonight before you go to sleep. have half mango, 2 oranges, 1 1/2 banana, 3 kiwis, and go to sleep, between 1 am and 2 am you should have a dream of your up coming interview date. J/K

I think you'l have your letter in your hands in 3 or 4 days , If you cant wait then call 1800 number and speak to tier 2 officer, and he/she should be able to tell you the date. But i would say calling 1800 number would be overkill, just wait couple of days for mail.
