  1. i really want a thread that has all the paperwork and everything and more so that i'm COMPLETELY ready. because at this point i'm scared and anxious and worried and freaked out that i'll miss the ONE THING they're gonna want. :(

I was just wondering, for CR 1 visa, everything was asked to be submitted through mail. I.e. Birth certs, marriage certs, Affidavit of Support, fees, criminal check etc. Wasn't that the case for K1 visas? Or do you have to take all that at the interview?

  2. Omg im SO nervous....to the point I feel nauseous. It's not in my control anymore...So Im hoping to God that I'll hear those sweet words..."Welcome to America"...on Nov 16th. I'm not doing anything wrong. From my understanding, I have all the paperwork and proof etc..so let's say worst case scenario they give me sh*%t for some sort of paper work that isnt upto their expectations...Im sure I wont get fully DENIED...maybe it'll postpone it by a few weeks.

But deep inside even thinking about waiting more than I have to, just breaks my heart. I wanna be with my hubby! :crying:

  3. My coping strategies are as such:

-Obsessively read VJ postings to make sure Im not missing anything (which sometimes leads to more stress if I find out that I might be missing something)

    - Food

    - Meditation...I've become pretty religious over the past month b/c it's in his hands now

    - TV - I've been watching alot of Seinfeld, Friends, King of Queens...anything that can make me laugh

My problem is that I just graduated from school. Don't have a job which means I have WAY TOO MUCH TIME on my hands. I could be studying for an exam I need to take once I move...but who wants to study when everything is still so unsure??

  4. oh god.

now i am very very worried. i have never been a very lucky person and i'm terrified that they're going to reject us because i have no income

(do have a co-sponsor that makes well- over, but i read someplace else that someone like me was denied).

Honestly, this is one more thing to worry about now.

I (the beneficiary) just graduated from grad school so obviously I don't have a job yet b/c Im waiting to relocate to the states blah blah. But my spouse has a good income and savings so Im hoping they won't give me hell. I hope age isn't a factor (i.e. being a young couple?).

  5. I would just like to VENT!

This whole process has been emotionally taxing. I don't know how the rest of you feel, but having my life on hold and not knowing what's going to happen is plain stressful.

Now that I have a date...Im just worried about everything going well on judgement day. It's one of those things you've been waiting for months and months and it comes down to that one day...yikes!

Anyways, I just want this waiting period to be over.

How have some of you coped with all this?

  6. Hey all,

Here is a quick & dirty review of the medical in Toronto!

So I just did the medical today. Not sure if they are like this everyday, but the medical was open at 6:30. I got there around 7ish, gave the first two pages of the packet 3 to the receptionist and she told me to wait in the waiting room. There were only 2 people ahead of me. I think I waited around 15 minutes before a lady called me in. I handed her my passport, vaccination records, 3 passport photos and paid her the $275. I was then told to wait again. Another 10 minutes, I had to do the chest X-Ray, and then I waited another 15-20 minutes before getting called into an exam room. A nurse did the blood pressure and pulse. The doctor then came in and was super nice, asked all the necessary health questions and did the physical exam, which included the pelvic exam (on the surface). Then the same nurse who checked my pulse and blood pressure did the breast exam. Then another 5 minute wait for the bloodwork. This was the scariest one for me, and the lab person who took my blood was no help in calming me down. She basically said we didn't make these to be comfortable for you, or something to that extent. Anyway, overall it took me about an hour and 40 minutes from beginning to end.

The results will be in Friday after 12PM. Hopefully I passed! I didn't see a weird look on anyone's face, so that's a good sign, right?

    Tina

Hey! I got the Tdap as well, did it work fine for you at the medical?

  7. So I'm busy biting my nails (figuratively) waiting on this letter to arrive because I made the decision that I wouldn't book my hotel/his flight until we had it in hand... but it won't arriiiiiiive. :(

Has anyone received their letter yet, or am I being unrealistic in thinking that it'll arrive this week?

    Also,

parking at hotels... I know most of you are taking the train/bus/whathaveyou, but we wanted to trek the drive... Do most hotels charge parking fees, or is it just the one I fell in love with that does? Haha.

Hang in there, You should get the interview letter soon. I think alot of people here are in the same boat (they have an interview date, but no letter). When I got my date, I received an email with the interview letter the same day...but they seem like they are slower now since alot of ppl havent received them. I would suggest calling NVC and telling them you havent received it yet but you were given a date last time you called. Just to be on the safe side.

As per parking, Most hotels do charge for parking. Some have parking but is usually full so you have to find another lot. I think average charge for parking by hotels is 20 bucks.

    Good Luck!

  8. How would we know if we've passed the medical? The results are in a sealed envelop that we cannot open right?

And I dont see how those ppl working in Montreal would understand all the medical mumbo jumbo.

Maybe in the envelop there's just a paper saying PASS or FAIL :P

They have a legal obligation to tell you if there is something wrong with the medical, so they will let you by telephone when they process the documents. For example, there have been people that got a false positive HIV test and they were contacted by the medical staff ASAP.

So I wouldn't worry about the pass/fail situation. They will tell you if there is something wrong/missing for sure.

Agreed -- when I picked up my results, I asked if I "passed" the medical and the receptionist said that if there were any problems, they wont give the results to me. So if you come in to pick up your envelope and your x-ray film, youre good to go!

Darkchilde just a question for you, for the Gardisil did your doc just fill out the immunization card with a check mark and his name? Did you bring any other evidence such as prescription receipt?

  10. Your TD booster should be fine as long as its within the last 10 yrs.

For the Yellow Immunization cards, how has your doctor filled them out to indicate you are vaccinated? They usually put checkmarks, date it was given, and the Dr's name. Is there additional info required to prove you got the vaccine (i.e. how should it be documented)?

I just called up the local health unit and had them mail out my most updated checklist, so the only one handwritten in there will be the first of the Gardasil series.

I have my original card as well, but it's old and crumbling... though I suppose I will take it to the medical just in case.

How do you get them to update it? I know for kids in school you can update what immunizations they've had, can we do that for ourselves too?

  11. From Toronto....Brampton more specifically...We just like to say Toronto b/c ppl dont usually know where Brampton is :P

Went to U of T for Bachelors Degree...then went to UWO for my Masters Degree. Now im back home...and waiting for my VISA!!!

this is exactly WHY they need to do VISA processing in T.O. There are so many ppl close to T.O!!

  13. Hey, in regards to your question about bringing someone, this is what I found under "Interview Preparation" specific to MTL consulate.

    Accompanying Persons

The following persons may accompany a visa applicant during his or her visit to the Consulate:

 Interpreters: An applicant may bring one interpreter if he does not speak English well enough to participate unassisted in the visa interview.

 Special Needs Visitors: Applicants may bring one person to help if they are elderly, disabled, or if the applicant is a minor child applying for a visa.

 Attorney: Attorneys will NOT be permitted to accompany clients into the waiting room or at their interviews.

 U.S. Citizens: An applicant may be accompanied by a U.S. Citizen.

Due to the limited size of our waiting room, the high volume of visa applicants, and the time required to screen consular clients, other accompanying persons cannot and will not be admitted to the Consulate. Drivers, friends, extra relatives, and others not specifically named above cannot be permitted to enter and will be asked to return to meet the applicant after the interview is complete.

I have the same situation. My mom is coming with me but she will stay in the hotel while I go do my thang. It wouldve been so much better if I had her with me while waiting.

Anyone know what the deal is with bringing a parent? My dad is going to drive me to Montreal, but is he able to come in and wait with me, or does he have to go and have many coffees at the nearest coffee shop?

PS - Hi November 6th interview buddies!!! It'll be nice to get through the morning together!

  14. This is a great idea! As the date comes closer...Im getting pretty anxious, nervous, nauseous, excited, not - so - excited etc.

Here are my 2 cents so far.

-If going from Toronto or around there, VIA Rail is probably the best option especially with the weather in nov ( who knows when it will snow)

    - Use Trip Advisor for hotels. You can put in the address of the consulate and find hotels nearby. I will most likely be booking at Square Phillips which is pretty close to the consulate

    - Dont bring cell phones/ electronics to the interview

    - Arrive early...around 7 am sounds good.

    - Bring your:

    interview letter

    passport

    passport size pics

    Xpress post envelope

Photocopies of forms you have sent (always good to have photocopies)

    Medical result envelope

Evidence of ongoing relationship (alot of ppl that have had the interview mentioned that they didnt even look at their pictures etcs) But better safe than sorry So im bringing my wedding album, random pictures of us together, intineraries/ boarding passes of me visiting or him visiting me or us vacationing together

    I think that's about everything??

I am a CR1 so in the interview letter it did not say if I had to pay a fee or anything at the interview. Anyone else know anything about that?

  15. Hey everyone...Im hoping someone can help me with this. Now that the interview date is fast approaching, Im starting to get my paperwork organized.

I realized that there is some disparity in my last name. I got married in Canada but I continued with my maiden name b.c I did not want to change ID's since I was planning to move anyways. So, the criminal check, passport, etc all has my maiden name on it. But the petition was filed under my married name b.c I wanted to take on my husbands last name once I moved to US rather than having to change all over. The correspondance b/w NVC and me has included my maiden name and only once did the put my husbands last name in the "Visa Applicant" section.

Would this be a problem b/c I have a marriage cert that would show my maiden name and then my husbands last name. Can they issue a visa with my new last name if my passport is still under my maiden name? Im assuming i would have to carry my marriage cert around right?

    Ahh!

  16. Where in Canada are you from? If you're close to Toronto you can go there too. (I'm sure you know that)

If it's feasible I would get it out of the way as soon as you can just to ensure everything is OK. If there's a problem like a missing vaccination it might delay things. I was short a vaccination at my medical and I had to leave and go to another doctor to get it, then fax them confirmation of that before they could clear me.

Hey I just read that you were missing a vaccination for the Toronto Medical. I am going there as well but Im just worried about my MMR vaccination (I was born in India so don't have official documentation for the vaccination). The lady at the doctors office in T.O. said I could get a blood test done that gives the titres and takes about 2 weeks. But if the results arent avail on time, can I still fax them to Dr. S in Toronto so they can clear me for the medical or would they just reject me if everything is not up to date by the medical date??

Thanks for any help!!! I just want all this to be over!

  17. Congratulations to everyone that has interviews coming up!!!

For my interview, they have asked me to acquire and bring my Birth Certificate to the interview. But I had submitted the original along with my original marriage cert so Im not sure why they are asking for it. I was born in India and Im thinking that the birth cert I submitted was not up to standards. I tried contacting the hospital I was born in and they are not much help and told me they dont have the records (everything is on paper there...not electronic recordkeeping). So do you think I can go through the process of unobtainable birth cert and the the whole affidavit process?

    Birth Certificates

Each applicant will need to obtain an original birth certificate issued by the official custodian of birth records in the country of birth, showing the date and place of birth and the parentage of the alien, based upon the original registration of birth.

    The certificate must contain the:

    Person’s date of birth

    Person’s place of birth

    Names of both parents, and

Annotation by the appropriate authority indicating that it is an extract from the official records

    Unobtainable birth certificates

The applicant’s birth record may not be obtainable. Some reasons are listed below:

The applicant’s birth was never officially recorded.

The applicant’s birth records have been destroyed.

The appropriate government authority will not issue one.

Please obtain a certified statement from the appropriate government authority stating the reason the applicant’s birth record is not available. With the certified statement the applicant must submit secondary evidence. For example:

A baptismal certificate that contains the date and place of birth, as well as both parents names (providing the baptism took place shortly after birth)

An adoption decree for an adopted child

An affidavit from a close relative, preferably the applicant’s mother, stating the date and place of birth, both parents names, and the mother’s maiden name.

Note: An affidavit must be executed before an official authorized to take oaths or affirmations. More specific information is available from the NVC.

  21. Just a question about the medical exam...I dont have an interview date yet (Surprise ...surprise). But can I still get my medical exam done before hand or do I have to wait till I have an interview date? I thought they were supposed to mail me something about the medical once the date is set and I was supposed to take that in to the medical exam. Not sure. Can someone provide some info?

What would I do w/o VJ!!
