  1. Hi everyone,

I moved to the US based on CR1 spousal visa in November 2009. I received my SSN and my Permanent Resident Card.

I was wondering if there is anything I have to do at this point? I am in the midst on getting my drivers licence (California did not transfer my canadian licence).

Anything else I should be doing at this point???? Im just worried I'll miss an important date or something.

    Thank You!!!

  2. Hey everyone,

So I moved to California 2 days ago and have to go through the whole adjustment process.

I was wondering how long it takes for the SSN to come in? Do I have to do anything in regards to that or just wait?

Someone told me to go to the Social security office and apply for it in person even if you asked for it to be mailed in the application since this will be faster than waiting 3 weeks. Anyone else do that?

    Thanks everyone!

  3. Woohoo!!! Hope you guys have a safe, smooth trip home!

    Good Luck!!

Hey Darkchilde Im going from Pearson as well on Monday!! Pretty excited.

I hope it's an easy entry. Are you carrying all your documents with you? Im just carrying my passport, the sealed envelope, and imp certificates that I didnt feel comfortable putting in the booked suitcase (marriage/birth certi).

You think I need to bring all the applications/forms we filled out, proof of relationship etc? I mean that's what the interview was for...They shouldnt ask for anything at the entry besides that sealed envelope.

  4. Charging for baggage is also an outrage!

50 lbs is seriously not much with winter clothes and stuff.

So I just found out I'll be paying an extra $100 for suitcases.

    1st suitcase = $20

    2nd suitcase = $30

2nd suitcase is overweight = an extra $50. Damn Im gonna make sure the over weight suitcase is overweight to the max (70lbs). I guess its still cheaper than shipping.

    O. and then I have to pay for food on the way. I flew from Cali to Mexico which was literally a 3 hrs flight fax and we had free alcohol and a meal. And I'll be flying 9 effin hours (including layover)...and not even free snacks. Sucks balls I tell ya.

  5. IT has arrived!! I was leaving my house since I had given up on it arriving today but I saw the dinky little canada post truck in my rearview mirror and I STOPPED. I ran into my house and signed and ripped open the envelope. If not today, tomorrow for sure ppl. Do not panic!

  6. It shud come today though right?? If it was mailed out on the 17th...today is the 19th. SO Next day would have been yesterday so today it shud definitely be here...hopefully. Why is there so much waiting?! waiting for the interview...waiting for the mail.

  7. Technically next day delivery should have been yesterday. Now Im staring out the window to see if the Canada Post truck pulls up into my drive way. I just want my passport dammit so I can be at ease.

  8. Good luck to everyone!!!

They have an underground mall that connects to like 5 different shopping centers. It's called Eaton Center and that way you can walk around and avoid the cold. And then you can connect to other shopping centers through a tunnel. IT's pretty cool. It's like a whole different world under the streets. There are also alot of nice churches in Montreal. There's one very close to the consulate it's called St. Patricks church...in French obviously...and another one is St. Mary's church I think. They are absolutely amazing...so if you guys need something to do after your interview/ or before....those are some ideas.

The Notre Dame church is supposed to be a very nice one but we didn't have time or energy.

  9. Hey everyone!

I was wondering if anyone has gone through this is in the process of going through this. I will be moving to California and I have my complete G class licence in Ontario. So was wondering if there is a way to switch it over or do I have to go through the painful procedure again??

    Thank You :)

  10. Regardless of how they schedule interviews, I wish people were given more information about the interview day itself. Im talking about what I've heard about other cases where ppl were asked for documents that were not even listed in the interview invite. It must be so frustrating to wait 4 - 5 months to get an interview only to find out you had to bring in something that wasn't mentioned anywhere. If I wasn't on VJ, I wouldnt have known to bring that darn envelope. It doesn't say anywhere in the stuff that was sent to me with the interview date. If I had not been on VJ and not taken the envelope, I wonder what would have happened??

Anyways, LGG I feel ya. The only reason I didn't feel like it was forever to my interview date b/c I was finishing up school (just graduated in July) and I visited quite often...every time I had reading week, Christmas holidays, etc. But now when I look back and see it took 5 months...yes FIVE months to get an interview from case completion, it's ridiculous. Hang in there...you've made it through the bulk of it...now it's gonna happen any day. Easier said then done, but that's all we can say :)

  11. They took mine which was 390 x 295. Make sure it's BIG b/c they had a sample stapled to the wall for comparing sizes. So as long as it's not the dinky little one, your good.

  12. Hey everyone!! I didnt even see this forum!

Thank you so much for your well - wishes.

The interview went well and I couldnt have been happier.

And to top it off, my visa has already been sent out (Just checked my tracking number)!

Now I have to get some suitcases and pack my Canadian life away.

Thanks to everyone here. This website was very helpful and it helped not lose my sanity :)

  13. I was wondering if anyone here is shipping their stuff. I know airlines (United) charge like 125 for the 3rd suitcase. I have wayyy to much stuff so I was thinking of shipping textbooks. What would be cheaper...canadapost, fedex, purolator?? it's to california btw.
