It definitely takes patience! See my timeline below to get an idea of the wait time. As you can see, we have not received our EAD or AOS but this can help you see how long until Biometrics, etc.
-
Copied from the I-485 Instruction from the USCIS website:
Page 8
"You may submit one check or money order for both the application and biometrics fees, for a total of $1010..........Make the check or money order payable to U.S. Department of Homeland Security.........NOTE: Please spell out U.S. Department of Homeland Security; do not use the initials "USDHS" or "DHS"."
I think this explains the situation with your check. Sorry.

I finally received a Touch today. Just like others, it was only on the I-485 (AOS). I hope this is a good sign. Good luck to everyone on a speedy Green Card!!!

The first part (and hardest) of my journey is almost over. I am leaving for the Philippines tomorrow morning to pick up my fiancee. Thank you again for everyone for the help over these last few months. I wish everyone good luck as your journey continues.
Happy New Year.

My fiancee will be here next week. I have already talked to the management at my apartment complex and explained the situation (that she will not have a green card immediately, etc.). They told me that all they need is a SS# and a copy of her visa to process a background check. Of course they know nothing will come up on the background check but it is required. Prior to getting her SS#, they told me she will be considered a "guest". They had no issues. I believe that if you explain the situation everything should be ok. However, if they still do not allow it, move on to another apartment complex. I wouldn't want to live in a place where the management lacks that kind of common sense!

Thank you everyone!

My fiancee is finally complete with everything in the Philippines, visa in hand, CFO complete and is ready to come to the US!!
I am flying over on 31 Dec and we are flying back together on 7 Jan. We are both excited and cannot wait to be with each other.
Thank you to everyone for all of the help and advice. I wish everyone luck and prayers for the remainder of your journeys. The next step for us is AOS. But at least we will be together for that!

My fiancee received her visa today!!
Now I must venture out on the internet and find plane tickets. I am flying over to the PI and then we will fly back together. I can't wait!!!!!

I ate it....sober. It was not too bad. To me it tasted just like a hard boiled chicken egg but with a much different texture. I can't say I would eat it again. But it was something I can say I have done.

I think you are well prepared. My fiancee was not as organized as you and she passed. I know you will pass with flying colors!!! Good luck.
-
It is up to the interviewing officer whether or not the US citizen can attend. Some will let you sit in while others will ask you to wait outside in the waiting area. There is no way to know ahead of time if you can sit in or not. But regardless you will be there to support your fiancee.

Thank you, Mayalar! That makes me feel better.

My finacee dropped off her Japanese police certificate at the USEM today. When she dropped it off they had her complete the Air21 delivery document but did not ask her to pay the delivery fee. They did not tell her she was approved or give her a "pink" slip. Do you think we must now play the "waiting game" once again or should we expect her visa soon since she had to fill up the Air21 delivery slip?
........Waiting SUCKS!!!............

That is GREAT news for you!! Congratulations!

We are with you. My fiancee had her interview 1 Dec but received the "white" for not having her Japanese police clearance. She picks it up today and is dropping it off at the USEM this afternoon. I hope we both get visas in hand before Christmas. That is my only Christmas wish!!!
-
Congratulations to those who have passed the interview!!!
My fiancee had her interview on 1 Dec but received the "white" because her police clearance from Japan was not ready yet. She received the call this morning that it is now ready and she is going to pick it up tomorrow and immediately turn it in to the USEM. We are so excited. I just hope that she gets her visa before Christmas. That is the only present I want this year!!!
Again, congrats to all who received the "pink". Good luck to everyone yet to interview or those waiting with the "white". I know how bad the waiting is, but one day very very soon we will be together.

My fiancee took with her a Turbo Tax print out of my tax return (complete) and my original W2 (year 2008 only), an original letter from my employer, my original pay stubs (last three), original CENOMAR, original NBI and original Birth Certificate. She did not have any problems. Of course we are still waiting on her Japanese police clearance, but the officer did not have any problems with any other documents.
I wish you the best of luck.

Congratulations! Let's hope for speedy visas for everyone else.

My fiancee had her interview today (1 Dec). The interview went well. It was just as everyone on here had explained: stand in line....wait....pre-screener asks for documents....waiting....the counselor was very nice and friendly. He only asked a few questions. However, she did not get the PINK because we are still waiting for her Japanese police clearance. The counselor said "There are no problems. You have 90 days to marry once you arrive. Just bring in the police clearance when you get it." She got the white paper. We are happy it went well....but still waiting.

My fiancee is at her interview now as should most everyone else in this thread. The waiting is driving me CRAZY!!!

You do not need an appointment for the medical. I see from your timeline that you received your NOA2 two months ago. Providing that your file did not get stuck in AP at the NVC, the USEM should have your file already. Call the USEM to schedule your interview. They will immediately email you an appointment letter. Take this letter with you to your medical. Please read through the posts in this Philippine forum. It is extremely helpful and full of great information. If you get confused, do not hestiate to ask more questions. Everyone is always willing to help out.

Just a bit of clarification....You must call for your interview at the Manila embassy. They will not schedule it for you. Also, you do not send in the forms. You download them. Fill them up and take them with you to the interview. You can have your medical at SLMEC any time after the USEM has your file. The best way to find out if they have your file in the system is to call them to schedule your interview.
I know this a quick and short response, but take a look at the Philippines forum. There are A LOT of specific information there.
Moderator....I suggest moving this to the Philippines forum.

My fiancee just went through the process of applying for the Japanese police clearance in Manila. You are correct that you have to obtain a request letter from the US embassy first. Once you have your Manila case number (NVC letter) take that and your NOA2 to the US embassy. Go to Window X and ask for a "request letter for a Japanese police clearance". It took about two hours before the letter was ready. Take that letter to the Japanese embassy. Once there they will send you to Camp Crame (not sure of spelling) to get fingerprints. Bring the form back to the Japanese embassy and that is all. They told my fiancee it will take approximately 45 days. It is an easy process but you cannot apply until you receive your NOA2 / NVC letter.
I hope this helps. PM me if you have any specific questions.
