  1. Thanks for your responses! Bordentown was an option but I am going to be working in Morristown so the commute was going to be too difficult :( I did my undergrad at Rutgers so I am familiar with the New Brunswick/Highland Park/ Somerville area and they have a bunch of apartment complexes I have been looking at online but the reviews are insane! Either there are too many robberies, gun shots heard, or the place is infested with roaches and bugs and the maintenance is equal to nothing. Has anyone lived in these areas and can tell me their experience of the building they lived at. Online it seems like everything has too many problems with it :(

Have you tried the areas around New Brunswick? You might not like New Brunswick itself, but maybe Somerville, Highland Park, places around the periphery? There may be stuff in the Morristown area as well. Jersey can be expensive, but your budget doesn't seem that bad unless you want a lot of space or want to be in the center of things. Just look in places more removed from NYC and you should find options.

I LOVE the Morristown area but the apartments were near the 2000 range. I never knew finding an apartment can be so difficult!

  2. It is SUPER difficult finding a decent place to live for me and my hubby. I can understand that our budget isn't amazing- $900-$1200 per month- but every place I am finding has bugs or shootings or something in that nature. Right now we are at my parents but we need to move out after a month. Any suggestions or feedback out there from anyone in NJ???? I know that the budget isn't amazing but we are trying to save money until he really settles down and finds a stable job. Any help is appreciated!!!!

  3. If you don't get the GC soon, you can always make an INFOPASS appt to have a new stamp put in a new passport. None of this is a problem when removing conditions.

You'll probably get the GC before you get the INFOPASS appt. There is no need for the stamp once you have the GC

We already got the Green Card- just waiting on the Social Security Card- so I guess that means I basically should go get a new passport and not worry about any stamps in it...

Great idea about making an INFOPASS appt- I may do that just to make sure everything is still good.

  4. Thanks for your response! I have multiple copies of the passport- so that should not be an issue-but my main concern is with the CR1 visa stamp. Do I need to replace it or will I be given any trouble when time comes to remove conditions and stuff?

File a report with police and then apply for a new passport in the Pakistan embassy. I hope you at least had a copy of it somewhere as they'll want to know the number of passport.

  5. Hello everyone,

I have been frantically searching for my husband's passport but am unable to find it. He is already in NJ and the greencard has arrived. We have not received the social security number but thank God we applied for it last week so it should be coming shortly. That is the last time we saw the passport. Now the passport is Pakistani in origin and I am concerned with what to do next. Obviously, the CR1 visa was in there- but now that he has the Green Card do we even need to get it replaced? Does anyone have a clue as to what the whole procedure is?

    Thanks for your time everyone!

  6. Wow, that was quite possibly one of the rudest, most unnecessary posts I have ever read on here. If you didn't notice - the OP is a USC and has every right to be here as does her unborn child. Medicare is for elderly people and Disabled - many people are eligible for medicaid including PREGNANT Citizens of the United States (which the OP is in case you already forgot) Obviously it would be best if everyone could afford the ridiculous premiums charged for a health care plan that include maternity coverage. Even if someone gets a plan before getting pregnant the premiums and deductibles are ridiculous.

Don't pretend to understand everyone's situation - because you don't. Nobody needs to read your rude comments.

Good people sometimes need help even if they are working hard. It's not your place to judge anyone.

To the OP. I hope you do find some good advice - I am going through a similar situation, except its my wife - a non USC who is pregnant - she couldn't be put on my plan because she wasn't in the country when she got pregnant - but I have been able to find some low cost clinics and am working on a payment plan with the hospital. It will be expensive but bringing our little baby to the world is WELL worth it.

Hang in there and try to find some of these low cost options. If medicaid is the only option for this pregnancy then definitely look into it .. if not, talk with your local hospital as most will have financial aid and payment plans available. Good luck! and congrats on the visa!

Thanks for your kind words. It stinks that I had great healthcare through my job before I left it for this whole visa process with my husband- and now I am having to look into different options. But its okay, I guess its a part of life. Congrats to you on your little baby- good luck!

  7. People should stop to be so negative, all the person is asking is for some info, if you can't help out best to keep it to yourself.

Your husband immigration status won't have much bearing on you getting help with your pregnancy, Since your are in California there's Medical, and several other benefits for pregnant women. You also have WIC, so make sure you take the proper care of yourself and the baby.

The rest of the concern is your private business, as to how you want to handle it, suggestions are always welcome it's just how some people put it out that can be blunly offensive.

Since you won't be working and your hubby will be new here, you have to look at the pros and the cons of having the baby here. Do you have enough finance here to hold on until your hubby get settle, do you have a strong family here to help you out, those are all personal matters and the decision is yours only.

It's funny, we can spend BILLION to go to war, to help corrupt govt, all of that i should say with our TAX money, and the poster was working before so her taxes went for all kinda crazy stuff, and now she needs help and people complaining about fleecing the govt. I would rather see my Tax $$ go to help a fellow american than being used to fight some ideological, financial war, defending some oil or whatever corporation with the most $$$$$ lobbyist the gvt to fight their cause.

People should start to take a good look at themselves, whoever has no sin should cast the 1st stone.

Thanks for your response- I am in NJ so now I am looking into some of the suggestions that people stated here. I have work for my husband lined up for when he comes- I had my own job ready for me also but that will be on hold now. I have a strong family system to support me- its just the financial aspect in the first couple of months that will make it tough. As far as all the comments about tax money and issues some individuals stated regarding their "tax money being sponged on by people like me" I have been paying my taxes for years- even when I was a student- whats the point of being an American if you can't have your government give you a little support when you need it?

  8. Seriously, having a baby in the US without insurance is freakin' expensive. There was just a thread here this weekend on the costs and it is astronomical. Search for it and read it if you don't believe me. Find a good private hospital in Pakistan--I'm sure they exist and I'm sure you're not living in a friggin' village--and have your baby there. Far, far cheaper. And your husband will be there with you as well. Good luck. :)

My husband isn't in a village but considering the rate of "mistakes" doctors make here- I would not risk it. I have gotten sick here but refused to go to a doctor (even in the most expensive hospitals) after seeing the conditions here. Its not about whats cheaper when you have a kid- its whats safer.

Giving birth in Pakistan is one of the option, but you have to consider that time limit to enter US with the VISA your husband got. It is valid only for 6 months, so add 6 month to however many months you are pregnant.

Just wanted to point out that both you and your husband will have to enter US within 6 months time frame.

That is one of my major concerns- my husbands visa is valid until August and I should probably be having my kid in the end of October because I am only 5 weeks pregnant.

  9. Hey everyone,

I am currently in Pakistan with my husband who just got his visa issued last week *yay*- today i found out that I am pregnant- good news, unplanned but its ok... it just doesnt fit in with my plan though of returning to the US and getting back to work. I had an offer from my previous job upon my return but its near impossible for me because the commute alone is 4 hours daily and it is extremely demanding and seeing that I am pregnant now- I know I can not do that commute again. I am planning on returning to the States next month but I am really confused about what I should do with insurance since I have none anymore. I know its going to take a while for my husband to settle down and find a job so I am not counting on that either. I heard I can apply for Medicad but does it affect my husband's immigration status?

    Any suggestions are welcomed! Thanks!

  10. If this "were" the right place to discuss this, which it isn't I should let you know....I would have cleared up that mistake you are making believing that the Prophet (S.A.W) EVER said such a thing. I would ask you where it is you EVER read it with your own two eyes...rather than just having heard it somewhere and believing your ears and not your other, more accurate senses. But since, like I've stated clearly above...this is not the place to discuss this matter. I will only reprimand you that you should avoid starting topics of discussions on other peoples religious beliefs on this forum since it is not the proper place to do it, and doing so will not gain you anything in return but merely make you out as prejudiced, ignorant and a childish person. Please refrain from it in future.

    BTW -

If saying "Ya Ali Madad" were bidad or "bad" then the Prophet (S.A.W) himself would never had asked Mola for help in times of need as often as he had. If you believe that everything our Prophet (P.B.U.H) has done in his life is considered sunat-e-rasool. Look up Jang-e-Khaiber in a book I'm quite sure you've atleast heard of called the "Bukhari". It is sunat-e-rasool to call upon Mola Ali in times of need...if after reading about the gates of Khaiber in the "Bukhari" you still do not understand, you may contact me privately "if" and only of you are willing to discuss this further in a mature way. Otherwise, I do not wish to discuss this matter further only to satisfy anything other than someones need to simply argue these facts! I simply do not have the time.

This discussion ends here and I simply refuse to acknowledge any further posts or comments made on this subject.

    well said.

  11.  Many congrats to the both of you

I believe it was you that posted not long ago, that you had called DOS. And

they told you his visa is in final process ? If I'm wrong please correct me. Anyway ...

How long did it take your husband to get his visa , and you called ?

Thanks :) Yes, it was me. I called DOS on Friday and they said that its in final processing. Monday I called Islamabad and they said they mailed the visa...it was stamped for last Thursday and it arrived in Lahore today, Tuesday. Basically the whole thing wrapped up in the matter of 3 days. From start to finish the whole CR1 process took 9 months for us. I am really happy I decided not to go with K3 as per my original plan.

yayyyy alhamdulilah that is great news congradulationss!!! :)

thank you so much :) I hope the POE goes smoothly for you guys!

    Sallam o Alaikum,

Congratulations ghayder for visa in hands. Please pray for me and everyone that they receive visa soon.

inshALLAH- we both got the requests for more info at the same time if I remember correctly. You had to email your brothers' names and we had to submit his past phone numbers. Hopefully, they are almost done with your case as well.

  12. maybe this is not the right place for me to discuss this but as a muslim...hazrat ali is a companion of the prophet saw and the prophet saw told us to only seek help from Allah swt.

I hope you do not take offense, but you were right about it not being the right place to discuss this here. Its her personal choice to have Ya Ali Madad in her signature- not your business to make it an issue.

  13. Hey everyone,

Friday: I called DOS and they told me that they were doing final processing.

Monday: I called Islamabad embassy and they told me that they sent the passport to Lahore.

Tuesday: My husband got a call at 11 this morning and he now has the visa on hand!

:) :) :) thank you so much for all your help and support through this entire process. I really appreciate all the support.

I wanted to know if people would suggest that my husband waits until July to travel since it will be two years since we got married, as of right now its a CR1 but then it would be an IR1. The validity of the visa is until August. Thanks everyone!!!!!

  14. Ghayder congratulations. it means u soon going to receive ur visa it is very good news brother.Does they already have ur passport ? if yes then ur visa will come within 2 weeks and if not then ur will visa take about 3 weeks to be in ur hands.

I really hope it will only take 2 weeks *crossing my fingers*!!! They kept the passport at the time of the interview- we also wanted to avoid the hassle of sending it at this time. I read something about how they are sending the printed visas to the US and then it is sent back to Pakistan- I hope that doesn't happen as I am sure it will just take up more time.

  15. Congratulations qhayder

    Sorry , I myself don't have the answer. Thou ... I do have a question & a suggestion.

First , what is the final process ? And did you have to supple siblings names & b-day's.

I'm wondering if this is random , or if everyone has to do it.

As for my suggestions , TO ALL of us, when calling and they tell us for example (visa in final

process) ask what is final process , and approximately how long it will take, It's our right to ask.

Anyhow ... Again congrats , and my prayers are with ALL of us. (F)

Thanks :) They did not offer any further information on what final processing entails or on the average amount of time it takes. I did not have to email them regarding sibling information but they requested all the phone numbers he has used for the past 5 years. That was requested a month after our interivew. Good luck with your process :)
