  1. Hi all. My husband went for his biometrics today in the Bronx, NY. All went so well, it only took a couple of minutes, we had a 10 am appointment, got there at 9 and were out the door by 9:30am.

Wish I could say we had the same experience getting the civil surgeon to sign off on the I-693! The doctor, whos office told me on the phone they would do the transcription of the vaccinations for $50, decided when we got there that they were going to charge $175. I got this doctors name off this website, others who used him advised there were no problems. Even though my husband had an extensive medical in his home country, the Dr. insisted they needed to do another TB and HIV test. I guess that "negativo" is too hard to translate into english! Since we have to wait two days and go back to this Dr.'s office to get the signed I-693 I will not go into the whole experience (contact me privately if you are in NY) until we have the documents in hand! Something should be done about the Civil Surgeon part of this process!

Hopefully, we will all be seeing the EAD or the greencard soon. Good luck to you all.

  2. Well, as I had suspected, we have received an RFE for form I-693 - although there are so many posts on here about the civil surgeon process, they are so conflicting. MY husband had a full medical exam in his home country in September. He received all the required vaccinations. There is so much repetition in the immigration process. Every civil surgeon I called is telling me that he has to have a full medical for which they charge $180-$250. I told them that only a transcription of the vaccinations are required and they said they cannot sign off on someone elses work. Anybody else experiencing this??

  3. Thanks for the advice. We have also been waiting 9 weeks - have been to SS office 2xs and called numerous times. I will take your advice below and go one last time without leaving until we have that number!!

we applied SSN #, and it's been 11 weeks already and yet we've been calling the SSA office every week and still no answer and every time we call them we got different answer. This morning my husband call the SSA again and they told us that they don't know what happened to our request she said that the Immigration Naturalization Service whatsoever will have to verify our request first. So now does anybody here got the same experience? don't know what to do it's like evreything now is pending I can't get driver's license beacause they need ssn no. I got my green card already last september. pls need input

    Gi

You messed up and let ignorant government workers deprive you of an SSN until after you get a green card.

K-1s (if that is what you are, would help to tell us) are eligible for an SSN immediately on arrival until day 76 after arrival. I suggest you go get it immediatley on arrival. (Actually, the next day as the CBP "SAVE" system updates you legal entry each night at 12:01 am) After filing the application you can get the number the NEXT DAY. DO NOT leave the SS office until they confirm your application is accepted and they give you the phone number to call to get your SSN the NEXT DAY. NEXT DAY. If they tell you ANYTHING else, get a supervisor and DO NOT leave until you are processed correctly. You may have to go several levels up to find a trained employee. Also bring they paper from the SS webiste listing K-1s as eligible. It is often necessary for us to do on the job training of government workers.

Government workers are notorious for making up answers when they do not know them, rather than ask a supervisor. They will also do this when they run your health care. ignore them, it is BS. A K-1 IS entitled to an SSN.

My wife applied 16 hours after arriving, had he SSN the next day and was added to our bank accounts, insurance, credit cards, enrolled in college and had a 50% scholarship to a private university 48 hours after arriving. Her card arrived in 6 days...whi needs the damn card? You only need the number. If you wait any longer than that is is because you are allowing an untrained clerk to trample on your rights.

  4. Hello All May VSC filers:

Just wanted to let everyone know that our visa was received yesterday and he is on a plane tonight! Thank you all so much for the information and support and I will continue to follow along with your progresses!!!

    :dance::whistle::dance::thumbs:

    Nice!!! Congratulations...

So did you purchase the ticket as soon as you got the visa? or you bought it before???

Only after receiving the visa - you never know - something could go wrong!!! so glad it did not!

  5. Now we're onto stage 2 of the visa process  , I know he has to send me a few things before the interview (just incase he cannot be here in person and bring them himself due to finances). Our original plan was to have him fly down and attend the interview with me but we're short of finances due to a recent relocation on his side and new job so that is iffy at the moment. I have a checklist ready but need some ideas or a look through incase anything is missing.

    1. Copy of NOA2

    2. Updated letter of intent (from USC and beneficiary)

    3. Original boarding passes (I have the e-ticket and stuff)

    4. Original snail mail from beneficiary with envelopes and dates

    5. (Original/photocopied?) petitioner birth certificate

    6. Copy of 1-134 co-sponsor birth certificate/passport (I can't in good conscience ask the co-sponsor to send me his original bc!)

    AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT

    7. Affidavit of support - Petitioner

    - 2008 tax transcript x2

    - 1040 and W2 x2 (just incase they don't accept transcripts)

    - Employer letter/contract x2

    - Last few months pay stubs x2

    8. Affidavit of support - Co-sponsor

    - 2008 tax transcript/return (W2, 1040, 1099) x2

    - 2007 tax transcript/return (W2, 1040, 1099) x2

    - 2006 tax transcript/return (W2, 1040, 1099) x2

    - Employer letter x2

    - Last few months pay stubs x2

    ---------------------------------------------------

Letter from employer states the following:

    a. Date and nature of employment

    b. Salary paid and

    c. Whether the position is temporary or permanent

    Example:

"To whom it may concern: (first name, last name) has been employed full-time with the XYZ Company since 200_ as a (name of your job), and is an employee in good standing with an annual salary of $XXXX.

    Signed,

    Employer Name,

    Employer Title”

    -----------------------------------------------------

I have all originals of documentary proof that we met except for his boarding passes/passport and documentary proof of our relationship as they're all online and can be printed. We never filed 2007 and 2006 taxes so that's why we have a co-sponsor. That and with the recent relocation, the new job is still a little unsteady and will take a few more months to settle down.

Is there anything I am missing? Still mentally frazzled and excited about the NOA2 so I'm not all here

    Thanks in advance.

Congratulations!!! There may be additional forms in Packet 3, have you received this yet?. For the interview, I would also bring copies of everything you have already submitted for the original application. Best of luck to you.

  6. I think its more of a norm that the gentler sex in a relationship are the worriers.

This sucks. Petitioners at both centers pay the same amount for a service yet get different results. Something which affects people's lives. They should have adjudicators at the centers to take some sort of sensitivity training to be able to understand how taxing a long distance relationship can be and the effect of long drawn out red tape on the well being of families, children, spouses, fiances affected. Maybe then they would speed things up. How people don't even get to spend their first year of marriage together. How people don't get to see the birth of their first child or see the first of anything the child does during the first year. How much stress all the waiting puts on people affecting them mentally, emotionally and physically.

As of now, I imagine we're just dots on paperwork to them. Nameless faces. They shouldn't require so much personal information about a relationship to be divulged and then treat it with impassive apathy. And then hire incompetent people to run their misinformation line to placate people whos lives are being put on hold. I bet if their loved ones were at the hospital and some newbie doctor came up and gave some bullshit diagnosis of what is going on, they wouldn't be happy either and would be screaming bloody murder. The system should be more transparent. The openness should go both ways.

And then they should go through some training where they are told to imagine something they want more than anything in the world and then make it impossible for them to do anything but wait. Being helpless is horrible. The human condition allows some hope where a situation exists where actual action can be undertaken. To strip someone of that ability to do anything but wait and then place the decision in the hands of a complete stranger and THEN expect them to be happy waiting months for a decision by this person to be made is just inhumane.

    Hear, Hear!!.

Any person I spoke with on the phone regarding this K-1 visa was not rude, but certainly was insensitive to how we feel. Good thing we have all our friends here at VJ to help us through the process and support us and afford us some transparency to the mystery that is the K-1 visa process!!

I have kept relatively quiet in this group, since I felt guilty about getting the NOA2 so quickly when so many others wait for so long, but I have been following along with May VSC filers progress, and wish you all many successes.

Were you able to see your case online and received touches? Thanks for the good wishes! Best of luck to you, too!

We were able to see our case online, but never received any touches and it still says pending to this day! Don't rely on this too much. The next step, NVC is even more mysterious than waiting for NOA2 - no rhyme or reason to being put into additional processing (or even what it means) - hopefully the May filers will not have to go through this. After getting through NVC, be sure to call the DOS to get the interview date. Ours is one month from today. We are pretty anxious about this day.

  8. I really didn't want to be added to this group...but we found out today that we're also in AP at the NVC :crying:

So I guess our July wedding, that became an August wedding, and then an October wedding might have to be pushed back yet again :(

One question: I've read some posts where people are tracking their packages through DHL. Where do you find that information and tracking number? I'm somewhat confused because it seems people are able to track "any" shipment to a specific consulate, and I have no idea how that would be done!

Let's hope this journey ends soon...

    Michael

You can check packages that were sent from NVC to the respective embassies by going to www.dhl-usa.com, choose "Track by Reference" and enter the date the package was sent to the embassy this way EXP 22 JUL 2009A this will show all the packages that were sent from NVC on the date you choose. I have seen on this site that you should use the date prior to the one NVC tells you the package was sent (ie - they tell you it was sent on the 23 july, so put in the reference the 22 jul). I was in AP from July 1 through the 14 if that helps you any with the timing. Good luck!!!

  9. I hope so as well. Is there anything that can be done to speed up this process? I am sure the answer is no, but if they hit a certain number of days wiould I have to get a congressman or senator involved? I know that with USCIS they say after six months to try and do that. I wasn't sure if NVC has a cut off date.

I called my congressman after 15 days. He did inquire on my behalf that day. I dont know if they all will, but what can it hurt???

  10. Good news! I called my congressman's office, they contacted NVC and were told our file was forwarded to the embassy today!!! I will wait to celebrate until I have proof that it was sent from NVC or the embassy itself. I am not sure if the AP was just complete or if the congressman's call was the reason, but I am greatful either way. Thanks again for everyone's help.

  11. Hi all: Sorry to hear about the troubles you are having. My case was approved by VSC on 6//17, received NOA 2 in hand on 6/19. NVC advised that they received it on 7/1. Hopefully this will help you. Most people get through NVC pretty quick but if you find yourself stuck there check out the forum on stuck @NVC for AP.
