  1. I have a question. We received an RFE in September. We responded and our information was accepted at VSC on September 24th. We have not heard anything since then and the on line system still states an initial review. Today I called USCIS to see if I could receive an update. They advised me that they would not give me any information regarding the application because my husband was not present. As the petitioner, wouldn't they be able to give me information regarding the application? Is four weeks too soon to be expecting a reply on an RFE? I guess that was two questions. Good luck to all those still waiting and congrats to those who have received!

  2. Well I just returned from my husband's home country where we attended a memorial service for his brother who was killed in a plane crash last year. I expected to come home to good news from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration services, but what I received after 10 months of waiting was an RFE telling me that the information we submitted was not enough to prove we entered into a "Good Faith" marriage. Wow, I sent them tax returns, health insurance, auto insurance, pictures, 10 sets of plane tickets showing we took trips together, bank statements, and envelopes from sympathy cards received at our home.

The date of the RFE is 9/5/12. They have asked for the following information: Children as a result of marriage, Evidence that we reside together, Evidence that we have combined financial resources, evidence of an estate, Affidavits from third parties. I will submit: 10 affidavits from friends, family and neighbors, more bank statements, notification from my 401k that my husband is the beneficiary. Do you think this will be enough? We do not have any children, I owned the home for many years prior to marriage and never put my husbands name on the deed, the utilities were all in my name and it has been impossible to get these companies to change it - the cable company put my husband on as a user but wont change the invoice, the same for the gas and power co, and while we need to do it, we have not yet drawn up a will. Any advice would be appreciated!!

  3. Congratulations to all those who have been receiving approvals!! We are stuck in VT processing so we will be waiting with the others.

I did want to tell my VJ friends that my husband and I have travelled back to his home country recently. We came back separately. We had cancelled my husbands original return ticket and had to purchase a one way trip back with connections and returning to a different airport than origination. With all of these changes I was very worried that he would get denied entry because of his expired GC and the NOA1. He came back two days ago and had the nicest guy at the airport. He had no trouble at all entering the country. We hear so many bad stories of people in our situation, I wanted to share the good story.

  4. Thank you everyone. Your advice is very useful, even the negative. Let me give you some background... my husbands brother was killed in a plane crash. We, of course, went there immediately together - my husband stayed for several months. The loss of a loved one always brings one to the realization that the remaining loved ones may not be around forever - especially when the one who has left this earth was so young and wonderful and left so suddenly. The family is dealing with emotions and situtations that continue to be surreal.

I dont have all the facts to be able to make a full decision. I continue to research what will be best for us. Hearing what others have been through - leaving and regretting it - leaving and loving it - is helpful to me. I cannot thank this community enough for giving me an arena to think this through. My husband has respected my wishes to get through the holidays before we talk this through properly. At that point we will need to discuss in more detail if this can be a sabattical or if it is permanent, how we will support ourselves, what expectations there are within our families, and where we are in the immigration process. Thanks again for your assistance.

For those of you who have also mentioned losing your loved ones, you have my deepest condolences. :crying:

  5. Thank you all for your responses. I do have some soul searching to do. He would walk on fire for me, so I am seriously considering all the options. I am not so worried about the "stuff" as I am of the security that those "things" indicate. My reason for writing here is to gain perspective from others who have gone through the same situation. The VJ community is unique in that we do have each other to turn to. I am thinking through the complexities involved with financial, emotional, familial - for both me and my husband. I appreciate the insight the forum like this provides.

  6. I have searched through the forums and have not found a situation like ours, so I do hope I am posting in the right spot. My husband and I have been married for two years and are in the ROC process.

Recently, we suffered a death in my husbands family. His parents are both alive and quite elderly. My husband wants us to move back to his home country to care for them. My in-laws are wonderful and the home country is beautiful, but I dont want to move there. He is my best friend and we are very much in love and I dont want to lose him. We have a good life here in the US, nice home, good jobs, etc. I fear losing this.

Has anyone here gone through a similar situation? What did you do?

  7. Hi Everyone! My husband and I will be filing this month. We received two reminders from USCIS. The package is prepared we are including the following

    Tax returns

travel itineraries for several trips along with the tickets

    health insurance cards

two utilities with our names on it

    auto insurance policy

    Bank statements for joint account

photographs of us with family members (both his and mine)

Hopefully this will do it!! I will let you all know when we send it out - looking forward to taking the journey with you again!

  8. Hello all!! my petition was approved on feb 25th and I didnt get any notification I went into the web site and I saw it!! I was very happy and my question is how long do I have to wait till my interview? well now Chile is going through a very complicated situation due to the earthquake and it might be longer the wait, but any way thanks in advance...

Not sure what type of approval you received but you can check the timelines to get this information. We received our first NOA on 5/26, second NOA on 6/17, the application was received at Chilean consulate on 7/17, and final interview was on 9/14. Good luck on your journey.

  9. I got the same phone call! Although I spoke to a nice young gentleman desperate to read through his little script.... he wanted to talk to my husband and to put him through to my local Senator, to rally support for some immigration bill, to get illegals forced to be documented etc because they cost millions of dollars etc, steal jobs etc, yadda yadda. I laughed and told them to call back then put the phone down. I don't think its a scam as such, I think its because the Senators office can't/won't take any notice of people not living in the State. They are probably just going off of a list of voters/mailing list information etc, and calling blindly.

Thanks. This makes us feel a lot better. However, why would they try to ask someone who is only a resident without the right to vote on any issue? He asked them to call back when I was home. You would think they would want to speak to the USC

  10. Hi All. Strange question.... My husband received his green card a couple of weeks ago. Today, he got a phone call on our home phone. The caller said she was calling from the Senator's office and talked very fast. My husband speaks english very well but is still trying to learn accents. He told the woman he did not understand her and that I was not home. She said that was okay, she was looking for him. While he could not understand everything she said, she was talking about immigration, she then said she was tranferring him to the Senator. He then spoke with a man, who when he told him he did not understand him, the man said thank you very much and hung up. When I got home tonight, I checked the caller ID - the call was from San Ramon, CA - we are in NY. I called the number and was advised that it is a non-working number.

My question to you all who have completed AOS, green card in hand - did you receive a phone call like this regarding immigration. Should I be concerned that this might be some kind of scam? My mind is racing.... could this just be a confirmation call that a) he lives at the address and phone we put in the applications, b) that he received his green card, c) that he is misunderstanding the people he spoke with; or, any other combination of scenarios.

Please advise. Thank you all my Visa Journey friends!!!:help:
