  1. I need help deciding which form to fill out.  My mother in-law, a permanent resident, is petitioning my sister in-law.  My mother in-law currently has no income and lives with us.  I am trying to figure out how to go about this.  We sponsored our in-laws about two years ago.

If my husband were to fill out an I-864a does he consider them in our household size in relation to poverty guidelines?  If so then he does not make enough on his own.

So, my next question is do I just fill out a separate I-864 and have him fill out the I-864a.  My income alone is enough but I read that its best to have the spouse fill out the I-864a.

I am really stuck on which route to take.  I would hate to do anything that would delay this already long process.  I APPRECIATE any help!!!

    Thank you

  2. We just received an email Welcome Letter from NVC.  It outlines the 6 steps at NVC.  I went in to complete the "Choose of Agent" this morning; however, I noticed once in there the AOS and IV fees are ready to be paid.  Can I go ahead and pay them?  I know in the past it took days for each one of those to be ready to pay.  Should I just go ahead and pay both?  I don't want to mess anything up.

    Thanks

  3. My mother in-law would like to petition her daughter who is 18 years old and is still living in Mexico. She will turn 19 in May. My mother in-law is a resident alien and I know she has to file an i-130 and her daughter would fall under the F2A category. She will be filing the petition tomorrow morning, but I just read that if she ages out then my mother in-law loses her money, since she is only a PR and will not be able to become a citizen before my sister in-law turns 21, in turn she wouldn't be protected by the Child Status Protection act. Based on the visa bulletin we may get lucky and the approved before her 21st birthday, but we are not sure if we are reading it correctly.

I am very confused on how to read a visa bulletin.

I noticed there are two charts and one the first one under A. APPLICATION FINAL ACTION DATES FOR FAMILY-SPONSORED PREFERENCE CASES states the F2A priority date for Mexico is 22JUL14; however, the chart under B. DATES FOR FILING FAMILY-SPONSORED VISA APPLICATIONS states the F2A priority date for Mexico is 15JUN15.

I am confused on which chart to look at. Could someone please tell me which chart to pay attention to?

We are really hoping it is not too late to file for my sister in-law. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
  4. If my in-laws get approved for an immigrant visa could they enter the US and then go back to their home country to get all their affairs in order? If they get approved they want to cross right away to come see their grandson. They are then planning on returning to their home country after only staying a week in the US. They will make the big move about 3 months later. They have a few things to get in order before they can permanently move . They can't do it before hand because they have to be sure they are approved.

Will they be allowed to reenter the US before they are given their green card? Can they have multiple entries on the approved visa?

    Any advice appreciated

  5. Lucky! and congrats for getting your interview.

I got my CC on April 16th and I'm still waiting for mine to be scheduled, I hope I get it any day now.

I am sure you will get yours soon. I am a little confused about the whole registering my appointment thing? Have you heard of this? By the way the visa is for my in-laws.

  6. First I would like to thank all VJer's for all the help they have given us in my husband's process. He is now a citizen and we are ready to bring over his parents.

I have a few questions about the I-130 for his parents.

    Section B Question #10

It ask for his Alien #

Should we put in my husbands Alien # even though he is a citizen and technically doesn't need it anymore?

    Section C Question #17

It ask for all relatives, so obviously I would put my husbands information on this list correct?

    Section D Question #1

If separate petitions are also being submitted for other relatives give names of each and relationship.

Just to clarify here on my father in-laws application I would write my mother in-laws name and relationship to my husband example: Mary Hill (mother)

and then on my mother in-laws application I would do the opposite: John Smith (father)

    Thanks!!

  7. My husband just received his citizenship and we are already thinking about brining his parents over. The guides talk about the procedures for the spouse and children of citizens, but I have not found one for parents. Could someone point me in the right direction? I don't mind reading and figuring this out, but it would be nice if I had a starting point.

If there is no guide then I am guessing it is pretty similar to brining a spouse.

I have a question about the time frame. My husbands parents live in Mexico, so I am wondering how long does the process take. I have not seen anything specific to Mexico, so I was wondering if anyone had any advice.

We are hoping to start the process in 2 weeks, but I wanted a realistic time frame.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  8. My husband passed his interview TODAY!!!kicking.gifkicking.gifkicking.gifkicking.gif

    Oath ceremony this coming Tuesday.

The whole thing took about an hour from when we walked in to when we walked out.

He said they asked him 7 civics questions and then had him write "we pay taxes."

He said it was very short and easy, but they took awhile because they were discussing his name. He wants to change his name, but they told him that process would take months. So, he ended up just doing what would be faster and that was keeping his name. sad.png

Oh well, we are just glad it's done with and his oath ceremony is very soon.
