  1. Assuming you are a US citizen. Your wife is able to apply for citizenship 90 days before her 3 year anniversary of arrival. Example. My wife arrive 8/24/09 applied for citizenship N400 5/25/12 and received her citizenship on 9/25/12. She applied for her US passport on 9/25/12 (using her cert of citizenship).

Side note. you do not have to apply for an N-600 for the stepson if you do not want... You can just apply for a passport for him using the Wifes Cert of citizenship papers. The US passport will

then become proof of citizenship for him... Cheaper and quicker.

  2. I am the husband (Wife is currently licensed in Texas),,,

First you need to find a state that will give authorise you to take the test it is called ATT (Authorization to Test).

Usually, from most states we checked,,, it involves (at a minimum).

    1. Evaluate ATT/Licensing requirements for the (BON) Board of Nursing in various states.

    2. Send application and fee to the BON for the state you are seeking the ATT and licensing

    3. Get your transcripts evaluated. (Note: need to use an Evaluation Company the state accepts)

    a. Send application and money to the Evaluation Company.

    b. Have your college send an official copy of the transcripts directly to that company

    c. If you are an RN in the PI (like my wife is) have the PRC (Phil Reg Commission) send a VOL (Verification

of License) directly to the Evaluation Company

    4. If you satisify ALL the requirements for the BON you will be issed an ATT number.

    5. Register to take the NCLEX test using the ATT and pay the fees.

    6. Take the test and hopefully pass.

Note: I Highly suggest you take the NCLEX test prep in the Philippines before attempting the NCLEX.

From my observation and wifes initial failure Was due to inadequate knowledge in two areas.

    1. Drugs (Philippines does not cover the very expensive and common USA drug regiments)

    2. Prioritization: The way the questions are formatted,,, it was difficult di-sect the question

and arrive at the correct answer.

My wife went back to the Philippines and attended the first 6 weeks of the Kaplan test prep. She said,

really made the prioritization portion of the test EASY.

(Note: The wife passed the PI RN test w/out attending test prep) so, do not think the NCLEX is easier as some

    suggest.

  3. My wife used... www.eres.com "The ERES office is in Sacramento, California"

    But,

My wife was seeking a nursing license for the State of Texas and there was only two agencies the Texas Board of Nursing accepted.

    So,

I would research a bit on possible uses of your evaluation. Check to see if the State Board of Education for California,,, only accepts

    evaluations from certain,, evaluation companies...

    Good Luck.

  4. Yes,,, and they need a ticket too (international travel requirement),,, even if they are a lap child. Usually costs about 10% of your ticket price.

Make sure you do not wait until departure date,,, or it will be about 10% of a last minute ticket price. A couple going to Korea had to pay more

then $400 for a last minute child ticket,,, where as our daughters lap-child ticket was $200 more or less,,, can't remember.

  5. Calling a senator or congressman cannot help. USCIC are not answerable to elected officials.

If you get the letter from them, and you are indeed denied, your best option is to refile, following the guides and enclosing all the bits and pieces necessary to support your petition. Read the guide, you will find it is a valuable tool.

Welcome to Visa Journey. If you have questions, or need help, you have come to the right place. This website is the absolute best.

Had a long reply typed and lost it....

Bottom,,, line They ARE responsible and responsive to the elected offfials.

The elected officials make immigration law and they fund the immigration activities.

I have Senatorial assistance twice in the past. The results were immediate.

If you have a legitimate issue they will act and USCIS will respond.

By the way one of the issues was needing advanced parole for emergency travel,,, was at the

San Antonio, TX USCIS office with no appt. USCIS stated could not help. Called Senator's office

and in 30 mins someone from the back office of USCIS came down, processed the advanced parole.

    Guess YMMV.

My two cents,,, (albeit borrowed from China)

    Regards,

  6. Of course it is cheaper,,, as far as labor costs (and no malpractise insurance),,, but, materials cost the same,,,

and some of the latest technology has expensive materials.

Just as a side note,,, a US based dentist was wondering where a Filipina friend got some extensive dental work done... She

said, "Manila"... The dentist remarked,,, it was some of the best dental work he has ever seen. YMMV.

My wife had some composites done, I think was about $15 per surface... So, that is maybe %10-%20 of US retail cost. Or %25 of

the discounted rate. (FYI,,, not sure what the actual insurance costs would be)

  7. I would just get the I130 in the mail (times a wasting),,, The person reviewing your I130 just needs to validate the basics.

  8. Yes you can file. As you within the 3 month window before your POE date.

    Wifes POE date 08/24/09

We filed N400 5/25 "Dallas" just got notification "On July 26, 2012, your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was placed in line for interview scheduling."

So,,, we will see. However, keep in mind. You can reschedule any portion of the process, fingerprints, interview and oath ceremony. So,,, if the

pregnancy becomes an issue for any date, you have options.

Also,,, if you search VJ for "N400 May 2012" people are tracking their status by filing location. This might give you an idea as to how it might apply

    to your situation.

    Regards,

    cd

  9. If you are in Manila,,, you can stop by the consulate and verify whether or not you qualify (or just perform the paperwork) and see

if they will accept it. I think it is somewhat subjective as it states "In most cases". Probably would not take too long to get in

front of a consular officer,,, I think last time I went there,,, was maybe 20 or 30 mins wait.

  10. I am not up on all of the current procedures....

This is an older post... 2009 so, fees are incorrect.

"Filing to adjust staus for the K-2 is virtually identical as for the K-1. It is a separate filing, fees etc. Use the I-485, G-325a and other documents exactly as for the K-1 including affidavit of support, EAD and AP if desired. The fee is $1010 per person UNLESS tha child is under 14 years and files with the parent, the fee is $600 each. Also need to attach copy of the marriage certificate, I-129f approval. Exactly the K-1 adjustment x two."

As always verify the information... Usually best with someone who is a bit ahead of ou in the process or someone who just completed the process.

As far as I-94 expired. That does not equal deportation. And, yes you can file with a I-94 expiration. It is common that many K1 fiancees marry near

the expiration date and don't file before expiration,,, or,,, as in your situation, they just don't have the fees.

So, the short of it yes you can file,,, but, now that you are filing seperately it will cost more. As far as adoption. The rules/legal aspect is determined

by your resident state. Need to review the requirements and process for your state. Many court houses have a legal library. In our case there is a legal

assistant that staffs desk,,, they can answer basic questions,,, or we can signup to have a session with a pro-bono lawyer to discuss any legal topic.

    Hope this helps.

  11. Worst airline? All of them just give them time. Had bad experiences on Korean Air, American Airlines, Delta,,, Plus others. If you fly

enough, something unexpected will happen. Sometimes the airlines fault, sometime not.

Currently for the past couple of years I have been flying Delta (better connections to Asia),,, maybe 120-150k miles a year. I have had no

outlandish delays or issues. But, service is not what it once was,,, on ANY airline.

    YMMV...

    Good Luck!!!

  12. EATING DOGS is a FILIPINO tradition 'thing'?? Where the heck did you learn that???fc]

Guess the first time I was told this was sitting in a restaurant in Baguio City about 1975, looking at the menu I asked the waiter what is Asocena? He said, "That is Aso, dog, it is a traditional dish here it will warm you up". I said no thanks, it's warm outside today! He he.

Eating dogs were Igorot custom but not true to all tribes in the Philippines. That person misuse the word "tradition."

  13. Note: Tickets for a lap child is not free. They still need a ticket,,, price is usually around 10% of the adult ticket.

And,,, also, short notice tickets during peak period (Now) is much more expensive then waiting till Sept.

    Regards,

    dc

  14. The airlines used to allow a stop over on international flights without additional fees. Might want to check with the airline.

Could save you some money rather then purchasing two tickets.

  15. Well living in a part of the country that is considered exremely poor even to the Filipinos iyam(dog) is not only eaten, its a celebratory food. They cook it for birthdays, fiesta, etc... Most people here cant afford to buy a lechon. They actually get a dog and feed it and raise it just to eat it for a special occasion. I'll have you know that dog is absolutely delicious. Dont knock it til you try it! Seriously, tastes like beef.

Yeah I have seen dog served at a wedding, I have probably eat dog just did not know it. Don't think being poor or can't afford other meats has a lot to do with it, just a tradition thing i think. If I had to, guess I rather eat dog compared to grilled chicken guts!, he he.

EATING DOGS is a FILIPINO tradition 'thing'?? Where the heck did you learn that???fc]

  16. We all have issues... And hopefully, your wife is just saying things she does not mean... It is tough

taking on someone elses reality and sometimes people have a fairy-tale idea of things to come. Kinda

    like our teenagers having children.

I too had custody of a small child in a previous divorce (Now grown up and on her own). Not too many

Dads get custody (that makes you a rarity and speaks volumes).

I had a friend in front of a Divorce Court Judge here in Texas. He was told "Sorry son, we don't let big boys

raise little boys here in Texas". And that was it, he lost his custody battle.

Being optimistic,,, maybe, your wife just needs some Filipina friends that can help her understand life here

in the good old USA is not the land of milk and honey for everyone. Most of us have to milk the cows (getting

kicked in the process) and harvest our own honey (getting stung in the process).

We live a bit north of Austin, Texas. It has not been easy on my wife either. Took her a mountain of studying

and test taking to get RN license and her first job (21 months after her arrival here).

I am sure my wife would be more then willing to lend a ear. Send us a PM if you wish to exchange contact info.

    Regards,

  17. Literally if you can prove you were in the same place at the same time,,, within the past 2 years. You meet the

test. Having met in person within the past two years. Having a picture together adds to that proof.

Now, proving you have a continued relationship from the point you file for a visa,,, until the interview. That

    requires substantial proof.

Get the process going,,, just wasting time...

  18. You do not need to carry a balance to increase your credit score. The average balance gets reported and the current balance

is reflected. I think my avg credit shows a couple of grand a month even though I have always pay off my balance in full.

The only way I might be attempted to use credit on a credit card,,, was if it was zero percent interest and I have the cash

in savings. A good example of this might be,,, student loans. If someone will lend you 10k at no interest for 3 years.

Why not replace (student load debt which is not discharageble through bankrupcy) with unsecured debt (that is).

  19. The previous reply is correct. However, be prepared for headaches. Getting, the passport, green card, ssn, drivers license, credit cards

etc. to follow the same name convention,,, not so easy.

I think my ex-wife had 3 or 4 different uses for her name.

Ie. Using only one of her first names

Using her 2nd first name as middle name

Truncating her last name as whole name too long

Using her middle name and last name as a hyphenated last name.

    Good Luck!

  20. Seriously!?!? Do you just need attention? This thread has been dead for three days but you revive it with the "Asians eat dogs" stereotype.

Really,,, just Asians eat dogs. I believe Obama said, "They taste good".

Actually, there is a particular breed grown in South Korea just for eating. And, a few Filipinos DO eat dogs. I was been witness to two

separate cases. One in Luzon and another time in Leyte. I am a dog person, but, to be honest. Did not bother me too much.

Oh, and another time in Angeles City. The guys in a club were making stew from some excess cats. Guess, they were too successful from ridding

the bar of rats. There offered me some. Although, I make it a habit of trying almost anything my host offers. Not this time.

Dogs,,, "Not just for Asians, anymore".

Of course, we have some Zombies cases here, eating who knows what...

Take with a grain of salt.

    Regards,

    dc
