That's your tongue bitten is it?
My fiancee tells me that my sense of humour is a bit dry for the American sensibility. I apologise if you didn't understand that I was just having a laugh.

Fancy that, we have an interview date.
I apologise to Jill, I don't yet have documentation signed and sealed by the Queen, but after our afternoon fox hunt together (the Queen and I that is, not Jill and I) she's absolutely knackered. In any case, I think the facts speak for themselves. Had I not involved my MP, we'd still be waiting for some civil servant dullard to finally blow the dust off the pile and do their job.
The unfortunate bit is that they've scheduled it for late October--perhaps this is the spiteful nature of the state employees the very well-connected marlea warned me of? I'll give the ol' state department a ring to see if they can move it up by a few weeks, otherwise it'll be time to open up my little black book again.

I was waiting for you to post it -- I thought you should have the honors.
Looks like we will be able to have our wedding when we wanted it, too. Sooooooooo happy!

Just to say that Julian has heard back from his MP's secretary saying that the matter was expedited within the MP's office, and that they should have a resolution within the next few days. Yay! Nothing yet when I called DOS though today.

Oh man, Julian -- you have been missed. I'm just waiting for this one to be locked.
I'm going to chime in and say that it is highly unlikely your call or your MP's call is going to anything positive. You and Melissa are on track to get your date next week, maybe the week after. Cool your jets, go have a beer (or sixteen).

Move it wherever you like, but your rhetoric is not what I expect from an organizer. Is that what one can expect from now on?

This looks awfully like a discussion about religion here to me -- the topic is not really death by auto-erotic asphyxiation, but how members of certain religions get identified as such in the media, and others (apparently) do not. Therefore the topic is about religion, and therefore belongs in the religion and politics forum.
I would respectfully disagree with my fellow organiser here that it belongs in OT; I have moved it back to the Religion and Politics forum pending any admin action.

Not to make any assumptions here, but sometimes it's useful to read a topic in the context of the OP and the replies. Had only Cleo's post stood without comment, I can see how moving it to OT would make sense. But in longer threads, one must give some regard to the entire conversation; here that lies squarely in the realm of religion.

Nice to see that marlea is able to give sympathy to some people who are complaining about waiting for their P4, even if she can't give it to my fiance and me. I guess some of us are second class citizens around here.

You're not going to like this, and perhaps others may profess indignation while at the same time knowing in their heart that it's true, but 'standing in line' is for suckers.
Do you think Bill Gates stands in 'line'? Do you think Warren Buffet, George W. Bush, Richard Branson, or Donald Trump were ever content to simply stand in 'line?' No. They are successful precisely because they do not stand in 'line.' Standing in 'line' is for people who don't think very highly of themselves. If you're standing in 'line' and not working out how to either push that 'line' faster or move yourself through that 'line' faster, or bypass that 'line' altogether, then you're never going to get anywhere in life. Or worse, you're going to let some faceless civil servant decide that your immediate future will consist on putting your life on hold while he picks his nose and surfs porn. 'Fair'? Oh do go on. There's nothing fair about anything, and if you think your state department are prioritizing cases based on how long you've queued, you're fooling yourself.
Go on, condemn me now, but please do remember this the next time you speed up just a bit to get in front of somebody else on the road. Or you push the trolley just a bit faster so you can jump in front of somebody at the checkout. Or the next time you tell that little white lie at the office to make yourself look just a bit better to the boss. It's human nature and you're a liar if you say you don't do it. So go on keeping that stiff upper lip and waiting patiently, but don't kid yourself that you're being noble. You're just being a sucker.
Oh look at the time. Ta for now.

It really is stinking ridiculous that we can't even get a basic answer from the embassy. There's no question that they've set a date, it would be the height of incompetency not to have at least that bit sorted by now. The civil servants manning the phones obviously just cannot be bothered to put down their cheet-o's and magazines long enough to type a few bits of information into the comptuer to give us an answer. Honestly, this has gone on long enough. I may just ring my MP in the morning to get things moving.

There is no misinterpretation here. Your words were clear to everyone else. I even asked you for clarification upon your protestations and you declined. You may think it doesn't apply to you, and that will be for William and the moderating staff to determine as I will most surely report you each and every time you suggest that people who are past their visa journey leave the site.

MelissaJulian reacted to elmcitymaven in The new "banning from thread" action
I find I am now banned from posting in a certain thread. What I posted there was not racist, sexist, derogatory, defamatory or likely to cause offence; nor was it pornographic, obscene or in any objective way, well, objectionable. I happened upon a thread which I had looked at several times before in utter confusion -- it seemed to consist only of a few VJers writing each other's names. Beyond taking up bandwidth, I didn't really understand what it was. When I saw that some other VJers, ones who didn't usually post there were now posting, I decided to take part -- what had looked like an exclusive club now appeared to be open. So I posted in the spirit of what was going on, and it seemed to be fairly innocuous stuff.
Apparently not. I find I am banned from posting in this thread (and I can only assume others have been too). Why? Because I dared to post in the precious thread of another member? We have gone down this path before, unsurprisingly with the same member, and the result then was this: no one thread can be said to be the exclusive domain of any member, or group of members. What I posted was NOT meant to interrupt a thread -- when the entire thread consists essentially of two members writing each other's names again and again and again, how is posting ANYTHING in there disruptive? I'm halfway tempted to message Rob and ask him to start our own thread where we write "Rob" and "Maven" at each other, in different colours and typefaces. When someone else posts in there, I'll report them for disrupting the flow of our Sacred Shouting Thread.
I happen to believe that one of the members in that thread does not like me for whatever reason, and if my post was reported for something as ridiculous as "Maven is yucky and it's my thread and waaaaaah" then I call BS.

I'm a stalker? That is the most hilarious thing I've ever heard! I admit, I did criticize jasman for being so insensitive to someone who'd husband had walked out on her. His comment that he was so glad he had a wonderful wife added nothing to the discussion. I stand by my remarks. Gary is a known mysoginist, which I take offense to, like many others on VJ. I will occasionally comment when he offends me. Charles I've said my peace on. I don't like him. But for anyone to believe he is a good candidate for deputy mod moreso than I? Well, that is simply crazy!
I rarely post in OT. I haven't posted on expats in ages, or even logged in there. However, I would point out that any behavior exhibited on expats should not be a factor in deciding anything on VJ. After all, they are 2 separate entities, one of which is "anything goes".
I know one time you sent me a rather lengthy PM, however at the time I skimmed it I didn't have time to respond to you. Then I got busy with other things and simply forgot about it. Sorry, but the situation to which you refer I cannot even recall. I'm sorry if it offends you that I didn't get back to you.
I try to be helpful in the UK forum, even if some people don't like hearing calm down, etc. I remember Mags handing out very similar advices to noobs when she was a mod. I'm not petitioning for myself to be a deputy mod. A few friends recommended me and I am honored that they think so much of me. If asked, I would *only* monitor the UK forum, whch I believe I am capable of doing.
I would just like to add that I find it interesting that someone who finds my so-called "attacks" so offensive has no problems openly attacking me. Walk the walk, smoke.
