Exactly what I've been trying to tell Melissa. The schools in this country are simply awful, there's no way round that. Fortunately there are some very good 'private' schools in our area, but that is a bridge we will burn when we come to it.

If expecting decent service makes me an 'elitist' then I'll take the label gladly, cheers. I just cannot fathom why somebody who cannot speak or understand basic English is put in a public facing position. If I had a Scottish or Irish accent, it would be completely understandable, but even Melissa has no problem understanding me so I don't see why somebody whose job it is to work with 'foreigners' should have such issues.
Oh yes, the endless Harry Potter references never get old.

Thank you all for the advice about the SSN. I haven't told Julian I messed up on this, but he'll probably be on later to read it anyway. He's out right now with his best man having lunch, probably complaining about how gloomy it is here today. He thought it would be sunnier.
Why do you have to be so rude about him? What has he done to YOU personally that you think you know what he's like? And the Harry Potter thing is ridiculous and juvenile.
Edit: he just came home with Alex from lunch.

I'm really glad so many of you seem to think this is so amusing. Many thanks to those of you who actually took this SERIOUSLY and offered advice because I found it useful.
I'm also pretty sick of hearing how we aren't "real". I know who mcat is and what his story was and I'm sorry, but only an idiot would have believed any of that. It was pretty obvious he was trolling. If we really want to point fingers at stuff that sounds made up, I would have to say that a lot of what Gary writes about his wife sounds like BS. Who amasses a bunch of Master's degrees and doesn't go for a Ph.D.? It just sounds weird to me. If it's true, fine, whatever. I read a lot on here even if I don't post a lot, and there are a LOT of stories that don't add up. Are some of them true? I'm sure they are! Are some of them lies? Yes!
Julian overslept and missed his flight. Nothing sinister about it. He had gone to a going away party the night before and he was up late. Yes, it was stupid and he knows how I feel about it, but it wasn't because he has cold feet! He feels really terrible about all of it. He is now coming on Tuesday, which is a little too close to the ceremony and the rehearsal dinner for my liking but I have to live with it.

Hi everyone! It's been a REALLY long time since I posted, life has been kind of crazy with moving and planning a wedding (next week! Eeeeek!). I just wanted to let everyone know that Julian is almost here -- his flight gets in on Friday night. I'm running around fixing up the house, dealing with last minute wedding preparation (one of my bridesmaids dropped out, so I had to ask my sister at the last moment), and generally freaking out but in a crazy-happy way! I can't believe that after all this time it's really going to happen and we're really going to get married. Julian is of course grumbling about EVERYTHING but since the interview life and time has just sped along. Can't wait to have him in my arms and know he's with me for good.

So I just got off the phone with Julian and we went over all our materials again. I really wish I could be there next week, but I have already taken a lot of time off this year so far. Julian seems really confident that nothing will go wrong, but I'm starting to lose it again. He just doesn't seem to be taking this seriously enough! I mean, he has all the right documentation and it's all been filled in correctly, and he has a bunch of relationship evidence (photos, our bank accounts) to bring with him just in case, but I am worried he'll make a flippant remark and we'll have to go through AP.

Thanks sweetie. I thought that might be the case. I've seen a lot of the "legacy members" be really rude to new filers and then try to excuse it by saying getting "bitchslapped" was a rite of passage in the UK forum. I don't think it should be. Why can't we be nicer to each other in here, like in some of the other regional forums?

Here's how it works with this lot dear. They go through their process and do as much 'complaining' as anybody else. But once they've made it, they forget all about the pain of waiting and being separated. Go back far enough in 'ol Johnny Boy's or Gemmie's history, and no doubt you'll see them doing exactly what they now tell everyone to shut up about. That's how it works here on Visa Journey.

Gemmie and Johnny, I understand what you're saying, and I feel bad for that person who gave up on the process. It's really put a lot of this into perspective for me. We thought about me coming to England many times, but we decided that given some of the problems I had in settling in when I was over there for six months, it made more sense for Julian to come here. We are lucky to have the luxury to choose. I don't forget this. Ever.
But I don't think that what I'm complaining about in terms of comparing my timeline to other people's is any different from what anyone else does here. I have seen SO many people complain EXACTLY how I've been complaining. Why don't I get to do what other people do, every. single. day? Oh wait, I'm complaining again.
Guess I'll go back to wedding planning and not complain anymore if it's not allowed.

As you previously noted, I'm not around much. You'll have to forgive me for not being able to post in everybody's "congrats" threads.
And (in case you care) it wasn't the announcement of the interview that prompted my commentary. It was Melissa's comment about being able to get married when "we want too".
Melissa, I'm sure your money isn't wasted on the gowns. I'm sure you will be able to wear them on your big day.
But it's not a good idea to pay down deposits or send out invitations till he's got his visa in hand. It's especially not a good idea for guests from abroad to buy travel based solely on an interview date.
    I'm not laughing at all.

J, let's take this offline please. I don't want to draw any more attention to this. I've been getting hateful comments on my blog again, and although I'm not posting them I can't stand getting any more, and this is just going to get more people to do this.

Nice to see that marlea is able to give sympathy to some people who are complaining about waiting for their P4, even if she can't give it to my fiance and me. I guess some of us are second class citizens around here.

You really can't stand that this worked, can you?
You don't like me, you've made that very clear in the past. And it clearly angers you that I was able to make this broken system finally work for me. So you've set your mind to coming up with all manner of explanation as to why, immediately after I involved my MP, I was given an interview date. It's sad really. If I said the sky was blue, you'd jump through bloody hoops to prove me wrong. Well it's cause and effect my dear. I called my MP, he went to work on it, and he solved my problem. That certainly makes a lot more sense than 'I got my interview in this many days, and so did you, so that proves the sky is plaid.'
Come to London my dear, drinks are on me, and you'll see I'm really not as bad as you think I am.
