  1. Visa is activated at entering the US through POE - as such is good for a year as a temporary green card until the real GC arrives approximately a month later.

The issuing authority is USCIS. www.uscis.gov

No way to speed to the process of issuing the GC - simply use the stamped visa that is your temp GC. if you need to travel or to prove you can work.

thank you for your answer. my husbands family is planning a cruise in August and strangely enough the cruise guy told them that Mexico needs the actual GC to let me in... they won't recognize the stamp

Go the Mexican consulate in Albania and inquire about getting a visa to visit Mexico on your Albanian passport. They're generally easy to get.

won't that cause any complications with my (not yet activated) US visa?

Why would it? Until you're an American citizen, you'll still be traveling on your Albanian passport. You can travel anywhere you want to, or at least anywhere you're allowed to with it. The US is only concerned if you have documents that allow you to enter the US. They don't care if you also have documents (i.e., a visa) that allow you to enter Mexico. That's between you and the Mexican government. As long as you have documents that will allow you to return to the US at the end of the cruise, I think you should be fine.

yeah, i guess you're right. But is it possible for me apply for a visa to Mexico once I'm in the States?

  2. The problem is not whether she's allowed to enter Mexico or not, but whether she's allowed back in the States after the cruise, is that right?

The I-551 stamp that you will get at the US POE should be more than enough to travel and be allowed back in the US without any problems. I think what the cruise employee was talking about is that you need to be a US permanent resident to be allowed to take the cruise, which you will be once you enter the US. The card is just an ID that replaces the stamp but they're both the same thing.

i know, my husband told the exact same thing to the guy... but he wouldn't listen. and then he told my husband that he had talked to the Mexican Embassy and they had said that they don't accept anything but the actual GC (they won't recognize the stamp) ...

  4. My husband mailed me all the copies of documents he submitted to USCIS and NVC to be brought for my upcoming interview including the form I-864 and tax transcripts but unfortunately it's still hasn't arrived here. I am leaving to Manila on tuesday and i am afraid i will never get those documents on time. Although we have already submitted to the NVC our form I-864 together with tax transcripts they will still require those during my interview, right? My question is...since my interview will be on the 18th but i am leaving on the 9th for my medical...can we still request for a copy of his tax transcript? Is it possible for the IRS to fax me the copy of my husband's 2008 tax transcript so i can get it faster than have it send through mail? or have it fax to my husband and husband scan and email it to me? Is it acceptable to bring scanned form I-864 during my interview? or does it need to be an original copy? This is the only way i can think of getting those requirements faster. Pls if you have any idea you can share with me...i appreciate it. Thanks!

whoa....i never made copies of my docs...and neither has my husband. we sent originals to NVC and i thought the only thing im supposed to bring with me at the interview is the medical report, passport photos, and proof of a bonafide marriage. am i screwed for not having made copies of the docs???

  6. Hey guys, I had a couple of questions:

    - When does the alien spouse get the Green Card? I've heard he/she should get it in a month or so, but is it a month after passing the Interview or a month after the POE? Also, is there anyway one can speed up the process of getting the Green Card? And the last one: Who issues the Green Card?

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

  7. Wow, I can't believe this...I had never even heard about this dowry business until now, but I gotta say it's really messed up!

Marriage is an act of love, a sacred union of two people becoming one...out of LOVE, not a lousy transaction!!! And don't tell me "it's tradition, respect it"... not all traditions are good. and this one is revolting!

I am really sorry Shanti for what has happened to you. I don't have any advice for you because you were already given great advice by more experienced members. All I wanted to say is that I think you are doing a brave but smart thing by choosing to not go through with your marriage. I wish you the best of luck! I hope you succeed and have the life you deserve!

    Greetings from Albania!

  8. Usually it's up to you to make your medical appointment, prior to getting to the interview.

Most want you to do it 4-5 days before the actual interview (for processing) - but you should go by what your paticular embassy wants.

Look on the embassy website, most have detailed instructions on where to go, and when to do it.

(ok - just looked at their website - it has no info I can find. You may want to call/email them for the info)

    Phone: 355 4 247 285 Ext 3348

    Fax: 355 4 232 222

    E-mail: IRC_Tirana@state.gov

Yeah I know, I already looked on the embassy webpage...well I guess I'll give them a call then. Thanks for replying!

  9. I got my appointment letter 2 days ago...Interview is scheduled for July 8th :)

Now what? When should I go do the medical exam? And where? I don't have any info... I only know that in Albania there are two appointments. I also heard that the 1st appointment should be exactly 2 weeks before the interview and the 2nd 1 week before the interview. Idk if that's correct.

I guess I'm gonna receive a letter from the embassy at some point that will guide me through this...but the thing is that Albanian mail it's kinda unreliable. That's why I would like to get some info from you guys, just in case I don't get the letter from the embassy (u never know). Thanks in advance.

  13. Maybe I am wrong, however I think I am correct after reading lots of comments over the past 2 weeks. I have also noticed that ppl whose case were completed before May 15, 2009 are now getting verbal notices form NVC's operator. My case was completed May 21, '09 and was told to call next week (June 8-16) for interview date. You can respond if my information is correct or incorrect.

    I sure hope you're right!!

My case was completed May 14th and also have predicted my interview to be in July according to VJ timelines. So yeah...I think your observation is right :) Good Luck!
