  1. Awesome a1angied! Power to you! and congrats on the weight loss! I started going to the gym for about the past month and it really felt good until Ramadan came around and it's really not cool to be running and not be able to drink water. So I either go a little bit before iftar so i can drink water right after, or I just don't go. I'm waiting for Ramadan to end so I can at least work out as often as I used to :(. I'm a size 12 now and really need to get down to an 8. :D It'll happen soon!

  2. CONGRATS!!!!! Super happy! Let us know when he has visa in hand!!! When is he coming to the US? I'm sorry that you had such a horrible experience at the consulate. In situations like these, I try to imagine what I would be like if I had a really stressful and horrible day and just forgive the person for their attitude with the assumption that they must just really be having a bad day. (Although that doesn't excuse the fact that she was super rude, there is some level of business etiquette that needs to exist).

    Keep us updated!

  3. There are parts that are racy, and parts that really aren't. From what I remember, the movie wasn't so bad was it? Samantha is the only one on that show that goes overboard on things at times, and I don't remember what happened to her in the first movie other than the fact that she kept watching the neighbors... maybe it is racy and I just don't remember? My memory stinks. Wow did reply was UNinformative.

  4. has it seriously been 8 years since 9/11? It feels like it was seriously a couple years ago :o (How time flies!!!) Here's a prayer for all those who have unjustly passed as a result of 9/11. :(

It's sunny here today, but I'm stuck at home, cleaning, packing, and studying. NOT thrilled. I am happy about moving to the new house though (even if it is my parents and not mine, lol). I love the smell of wood and paint that new houses have!!!

Here's to a BEAUTIFUL day for everyone, and get well soons' for all those who are sick.

  5. Lol... thanks guys, I feel a lot better now about being cursed. :D lol. Thank you to EVERYONE :) Morroco4ever and Jenn, you're posts made me laugh teehee. I know not EVERYONE gets a respond after they post something, but I like would post, just to watch the thread breathe its lasts breaths and that look at me with dying eyes and say feebly, "how could you do something like this?!!". (Ok yeah I know, over dramatic, but hey!) So thanks again for the encouragement and sarcasm... it helped :D. ~M

  6. It's insane of me to say this and I mean ABSOLUTELY nothing by it... just an observation that 98% of the time when I comment on a thread...everyone else stops commenting. It's like I'm the period at the end of the thread. lol. I started getting all self conscious about it today when I commented on a couple things, and they just died after my comment. So I have concluded that I am indeed cursed. (Hope not everything I touch gets cursed like this :o that would stink big time!!!)

  7. Maybe try contacting your congressman with a letter explaining what you went through and what you would like done?

I've never had any experience with this sort of thing so I wouldn't know what to say, but I know contacting your state representative can help.

    Good luck,

  8. I was just reading everyone's posts(and posting WAY past morning)... About the sleep... CANNOT sleep until like 2:30 every night... then waking up for sohoor makes things even more confusing... although I tend to oversleep during the days, which brings me to my second point. I have virtually been looking for a job since June when I came back from visiting the hubby and to NO AVAIL! It's making me lazy, and bored, and broke. I need a job. The problem is I want to work in something that's in my own field (psychology), but having only a B.S makes me only eligible for research jobs, which I CAN'T SEEM TO GET ONE OF. *sigh* At the same time I'm studying for this GRE test I have to take in October while also trying to apply to grad schools (all over the us of a). Anyone wanna give me tips on writing a personal statement? It's harder than one might think to write about myself. On another note... hubby was supposed to be coming on the 25th of september, then he's like I need an extra week to finish up work, which would make it oct 2nd, then he's like make that 9 days, oct 4th, then I told him there aren't any flights available at the price we wanted for oct 4th, so then instead of being content with oct 2nd, he says extend it another week... i'm like ARE YOU SERIOUS? he was. (mind you he's had his visa since May 20th). So he's going to let me know tomorrow whether to book the oct 2nd or the week after, but I really hope he decides on oct 2nd, cause honestly at this point every DAY he is away is frustrating. But I feel bad whining about it, because so much has gone on with work stuff and family stuff, so I'm really trying not to. Plus my parents are in the moving process and so I have all that to help with BY MYSELF... especially since we're going to be living with my parents for a while until we can buy our own place, or at least until I know where I am accepted for grad school... so overall... THERE IS A LOT going on, and hubby is NOT here, which makes the lot of stuff seem like it's a lot more.

Sorry you had to read all that.

  9. Met online... but he saw my profile on Yahoo 360 via my cousin's profile (they were friends on yahoo 360) and we started talking (more details in the "introductions" topic in this forum.) And yeah, I too feel a bit odd mentioning that I met him online, so I say we met through my cousin, which isn't entirely a lie. lol. The story about the old man?! Hilarious!!! Really cool actually.

  10. Kenza, my hubby is going to be starting school ALL over since his credits from Iran for BA aren't accepted here. So we'll both be students full time. You're lucky that your hubby can at least begin looking for a job in the professional field right away. I kind of like the fact that we're both students though--it'll make him more understanding of what I go through throughout the day at school and with studying (and it'll make him more helpful around the house because we're both under similar pressures) lol. That's really exciting that he's coming soon though. I'm so looking forward to having my hubby here with me :).

  11. Wow, 11 pages!!! But awesome introductions everyone... welcome to the newbies, and glad you're still here to the not so newbies. lol...

I've been on VJ for a while now, but I've never really introduced myself (I don't think)--my memory stinks.

I'm M :D 22 years old Iranian-American from Chicago (with a B.S in psychology, studying for the GRE so I can apply for grad school for '10--pray that I get accepted!!), and my husband is M :P 30 years old from Tehran, Iran. The story of how we met is kinda interesting (I think)...my husband and I both had yahoo 360 profiles back in August of 2007 and he was friends with my second cousin on yahoo 360 (neither of them remember how they added each other). I too was friends with my cousin. So apparently he saw my profile via my cousin's profile and added me. I sent him a message with an "uh... do I know you?" And he responded with a "I don't think so"...lol. So I checked out his friends list and noticed it consisted almost entirely of his family members (nieces, nephews, brother, sister, etc). So I figure he's not a creeper. I accepted his add and we started messaging back and forth, then later chatting and talking on the phone. Literally, 6 hours at a time. By December we decided that it was time to meet so my Dad and I made the trip to Iran to meet him and his family. We were met with a bit of an issue when my Dad initially didn't okay the relationship (especially since it had started via internet, etc), but eventually convinced him that we were true and that our relationship was real (it was like the first step of the interview process--prove relationship to father...lol) Anyway, that December was SUPER memorable... full of ups and downs, and snowy night outings. Eventually I returned to Chicago and our relationship continued via phone. Around March we decided it was about time we get married and so his sister called my parents and asked them if it was okay to start planning everything. So wedding planning started via internet (he would visit venues, send me pics, I would approve or disapprove)--pretty crazy stuff. June I went back to Iran with my mom this time so we could finish planning before my dad and siblings arrived in July. (My extended family are all in Iran so it was the perfect place to have our wedding). We were married on July 12, 2008--one of the best days of my life!!! I stayed with him for a month, returned in August, couldn't stand being lonely so went back in Dec, initially planning on returning in Feb but instead returned in June :P. While I was there we went through the entire NVC process and went for our interview on May 19th in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Everything went perfectly alhamdullilah...he got his visa next day, May 20th. BUTTTTTTTTTT he's still in Iran because he had to wrap up things with his business, and sell his car etc, which has made me increasingly impatient (but understanding) (props to all those people waiting for their fiances and spouses, especially those in AP, I can't imagine how tough it must be). So I am super happy now that we have reserved a ticket for his arrival on Sept 25th. (It'll be like my Eid ul Fitr present :D--kinda late). I'm just kinda freaking out about his adjustment here, (he wants to go to school, so we'll both be students), and we'll probably be living with my parents for the first few months (bummer)-but I know the VJ crowd is here for ideas and support! lol.

Wow I wrote a lot. That's all folks!

  12. He still has 14 months left of service? Well then why not get married within that 14 months sometime? It'll make things faster, only because once you apply for him, you could apply a CR1 visa, and he would get his greencard right away as opposed to having to get married in the US and applying for adjustment of status. If it's possible to do that, I would suggest it... the overall process takes the same amount of time as a K1 visa (roughly) and is so much more convenient in the long haul. Hopefully they'll take some months off his remaining service time. Another thing would be to gather all the info you need for each step of the way (check guides) except for those items that are date specific, so that you won't have much to gather when the time comes to send everything at each step. Good luck though and let us know if theres anything else we can help with!

  13. That is laughable. There is no way that any imam would make that statement. Islam does not say to kill all non-Muslims. If that were true, and people really believed that, there are enough Muslims in the world that they would have killed off everyone by now. This is nothing more than propaganda. Muslims don't need to spread by the sword. Their fertility rate alone is what is taking over the world  Example, my husband's brother is a father to 16 children and still going!

I could be incorrect in this, but I think "shiites' believe this. They believe that killing them is actually more merciful to them than letting them go on with their befiefs. I know someone who told me this that was Shiite. However, a small percent of muslim are Shiite. The majority of muslims, 90% perhaps are Sunni and do not hold this belief. There is alot of misconceptions about Islam and its frustrating.

This is not correct. I am born Shiite, as is the vast majority of Muslims in Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, and Syria. I don't know who told you this, but like every sect of EVERY religion, there are always the select few people in each that are fundamental, close minded thinkers, that take what they read in literal terms. Killing anyone, muslim or not, is wrong. The real difference between Sunni's and Shiites is not in doctrine per say , but rather in political issues--like who after the prophet's death was the first Caliph. There is no compulsion in religion--and so believing or not believing in Islam, is a personal choice.

About the OP... that's a pretty sad email to read from someone you thought was your friend. When I first read it, common sense flashed lights in my head and I was like, there are HUGEEEEEEE lies in this email. If one were to know anything about the Muslim Community and what has gone down since Sept 11th, you would know that no real Muslim Imam in the US would be so uninformed as to not rebut even ONE of those insane claims.

Here is clarification about the verses in the Quran that some interpret at having such meaning, along with the context and the conditions.

    http://www.altmuslim.com/a/a/a/are_we_real...l_the_infidels/

I am not a fighter, and I DO NOT want this to turn into any sort of argument, but I don't think it's very nice to attack any group/sect of muslims/nonmuslims etc, especially when we're not sure of or a not able to support what we are claiming. I know you mentioned that you weren't sure, but if that's the case, then why even mention it? No hard feelings though!! Much love!

  14. I don't think that's true... it depends what country your passport is from. I'm not sure about morocco, but i know that there are a list of countries whose nationals need visas and a list of countries that do not. A greencard though, does NOT act as a visa...in fact the purpose of a green card is only to allow you INTO the US. Whether or not you would need a visa to travel to a country in the US would depend on the country from which your passport is from, and that you would have to search on each specific country's website (the one you want to travel to) to see if your country would require a visa or not.
