  3. Hey all, add me to the list... sent everything off last week and it says the package was delivered on 08/13/2011. I totally forgot about the driver's licenses!! But We have 2 years of taxes, costco cards, car insurance stuff, car purchase stuff, apt lease, renter's insurance, bank account, pictures, tickets of a trip together, our dog's registration information (lists both of us and one address), and a few other things. Think that'll be enough? I think so. Oh... and that insane fee amount 590 bucks. :( boo. They don't realize we're both students...there should be a student discount. Just saying.

  4. Met in August of 2007 via my cousin who introduced us online, we actually introduced ourselves, didn't really need his help :P...complicated, I know. I'm 24 and he's 32. 8 year age gap that works perfectly for us. Plus the men in his family have great skin and hair...lets hope I can keep up.

    :)

  5. My fiancée received a vaccination record from Pasteur organization in Iran and had one vaccine administered in turkey for the medical exam. Is this record from Iran accepted?

Yes this is accepted. It's an international vaccination record. My husband got his record from Pasteur and it was accepted for his medical in Dubai and should be accepted in the US as well.

  6. Ney, I wouldn't worry so much. My husband's process, start to finish, with an interview in the UAE was 7 months. He was not put on Administrative processing despite being Iranian, and male and was given his visa next day. Unfortunately it doesn't work the same with everyone, but staying positive is important. I also found that sending in a police certificate or taking on with you to the interview has helped some people avoid AP. With the few interviews for Iranians that have just gone by, even those put on AP were given their visas after about one month. Stay positive, and I would avoid lawyers unless in cases of major complication. Good luck

  7. Hey everyone... so update on my side. Hubby got in on the 16th. Took him about an hour or so to get out, but he said they didn't check his bags and didn't ask him more than a couple really normal questions. Now we've just been settling in to my parents house. We finally have everything where it's supposed to go. He's been going to the library to study almost everyday... working on his English and on getting familiar with math terms in English so he can take the community college entrance exams. We went to the Social Security office like 3 days after he got here and applied for his SS # which arrived on Friday thank god. Still waiting on a welcome letter and his green card. How long did that take for everyone else? Where can we check and see if it's in process etc?

He's also reviewing the driving manual thing from the DMV so he can take his driving exam. I start my new job tomorrow, applying for grad schools and just kind of taking each day as it comes. They're coming at me a bit hectic-like. I really need to get back to the gym soon. Especially with all the restaurants I'm taking my hubby to and Thanksgiving that is approaching FAST. I need the gym. Hopefully starting again from tomorrow. I've missed everyone btw :).

  8. Naperville HAS grown! chicago... it's wonderful. but man is it cold here. Took the GRE subject test this morning (woke up at 6:10 AM to drive one hour TO the testing center). It went alright...I hope I did well. Then went and bought a new bedding set for our room before my hubby gets here. Still a lot to get done, but one less thing makes me happy. That's pretty much all... btw Nawal, your description of Nour running around the room with her sippy cup was adorable... I had the picture in my head and it totally made me smile!

  9. Congratulations Tamara! So many babies lately, and SO many boys!!! It's like a few years ago when EVERYONE had girls... (it was more like a 5-8 year period where there were more girls born around me than boys) and now... it's like everyone around me that mentions they're pregnant, right away I'm like... oooo boy! lol. But either way, they're both WONDERFUL and cute, and what's important is that they're good and healthy.

  10. Good evening MENA! I haven't really been around the past few days. Studying...

Also, yesterday my younger sister (a freshman in high school) found out that a girl she's known from junior high and was good friends with in 7th grade, passed away suddenly. The autopsy confirmed that she had a case of H1N1 but that the main cause of death may be a genetic artery defect (but they're not sure). I was super saddened by this---one because this happened at the same high school I went to not too long ago, so it's so weird when things happen so close to home, and two--this is a young, lively, happy, loved, 14 year old girl--I couldn't imagine something like this happening to my own sister. Her name was Michelle Fahle, if anyone has the chance, look up the group made in honor of her on facebook and pay your respects to a girl that died far too young. :(

On a completely different topic... I was totally craving tiramisu and finally god my hands on some... yum.

But the real GOOD NEWS is that I got this job I realllllllly wanted! So super excited about that (thank you god!). It took so many applications, resume/cover letters to finally land a position in my own field. Seriously I think I applied for like 30 jobs, got 2 interviews, and was finally given one offer. It's so hard these days. I wish you the best of luck J+I... I really pray that you get offers during your upcoming interviews, I know how hard the process can be.

About the weather... man Chicago sucks.

  11. My frustration= hubby changing his ticket again. UGH! I hate expecting that he's going to come and then him telling me he's going to change it because he needs more time too wrap up things with work. Now he's coming a week later. I know he misses me, I know he's stressed, and I'm not whiny, and I'm being understanding, I'm just frustrated. ~M

It's hard, but be patient. The last week or two before my hubby was to come here, he was stressing out a lot. I guess it doesn't hit them they are leaving everything until that time comes. The only difference being that instead of wanting to take an extra week, he wanted to come NOW. lol... He almost came on his own without me and without telling me. We had agreed I would fly in with him. Thankfully he didn't do that and now he said he's glad he didn't because he would have been so lost going through customs, security, and navigating the airports.

I'm calmer now... but that's another thing... he's never traveled far and never really alone, so I'm a bit worried about the airport situation, but he's pretty clever, so I'm sure he's get around fine and that I'm just worrying for no reason :D.

  13. LOL @ "be ghole maroof, chera in ghadr holi?!"

But KGH, according to the guides, the beneficiary does not need to provide his/her birth certificate when first filing the I129. They only need proof of citizenship (complete passport copy, naturalization certificate copy, or birth certificate copy for the petitioner). But later when it gets to the embassy level, you need the original and translation of her shenasnameh. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I read.

  14. Congrats Pandora!!! My hubby is coming next Friday and I'm so unsure of what to do to help him adjust quickly. I know it's a process that takes time, but I want to be ready. I'm thinking I'll show him around the area on the first night. I don't know where else to go from there.... <sigh> We're both Iranian, so I've got the food, bathroom, and most of the Iranian cultural side down... I want to know how I can help him adjust here. Any ideas?

  15. The best way to do it (so that it takes the least amount of time) in my opinion is to file for your mother (I130). When she arrives, I believe after 3 years she can apply for naturalization. After she becomes a citizen she could apply for your sister if she is still under 21 and it would take between 6-12 months for her to come. Can someone check my facts on that? I think it sounds about right. ~M

  16. Do you have any assets? Like a home that you could add? On the I864, it says that "assets may supplement income if the consular or immigration officer is convinced that the monetary value of the asset can be converted into cash within one year without undo harm onto the sponsor and his or her family members." Another option is that if your spouse has any income that will continue even after her immigration, this can also be figured into the income as well. About having a joint sponsor, it also says that: "A joint sponsor can be any U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident who is at least 18 years old, domiciled in the United States, or its territories or possessions, and willing to be held jointly liable with the petitioner for the support of the intending immigrant. A joint sponsor does not have to be related to the petitioning sponsor or the intending immigrant." So if you even have family members that are not immediate, like an uncle, aunt, cousin, or even a really good friend that may understand your situation, you should be fine.

There are specific directions on how to use assets to supplement income on the I864 form. I honestly do not know if a lump sum of cash (the $91060 that you mention) counts as assets or not. You may want to call the NVC and ask about this--they are usually very helpful, and if the representative doesn't help, ask for a supervisor.

Good luck and keep us updated!
