  2. hello,

I am filing all the paperwork for the CR-1 visa. We were just married on June 27th, and when we were married the officiant singed and filled out the marriage certificate and gave it to us. (she also kept additonal paperwork that she said she needed to fill out and submit). What i am wondering, is this the certificate that I submit?? I thought it was, until I was reading elsewhere that some people had to wait 8-10 weeks for their certificates?? So now I am confused. We were married in PA if that makes any difference.

Also, in Canada I know you can just assume your husbands last name, and then your madian name stays on your birth certificate and passport. Is this the same in the US? Do I just assume his last name, and fill out all the forms using his last name? Or should I just do it all in my madian name??

    Thanks, Im just so confused!

  3. Hello,

We are going the CR-1 route, and I am filling out the G325a form for myself and husband and have a quick question. At the end of the form is states: "This form is submitted in connection with an application for:" Would I check off status as a perm. resident, or would I check off other: and put I-130 petition? I want to make sure I fill this out correctly :)

    Thanks again!

  4. Hello, my finance and I are set to be married next weekend. We then will begin the CR-1 process. My question is : we have a one year old son together (he was born in Canada), who has blood right to US citizenship. When we start the I-130, do we have to do anything for my son, or do we just file the report of a birth abroad with the embassy here in Canada?

Thank you very much. This site and the people on it, are amazing :)

  5. Hello,

Im from Canada, and my fiance is American. We are getting married next month, and then will start the CR-1 process. Is it too early for me to get my criminal record check? Does it expire?

    Thanks

  6. Hello.

When CR1 is approved, do I have to move to the US immediately? Or do I have some sort of grace period?? Since we are unsure about how long the visa process will take, Im considering taking on some contract work here in canada, and its possible that once the CR-1 visa is approved, I may not be ready immediately to move to US with my husband. Would we still be able to continue travelling back and forth for visits?

  7. When the CR-1 process is ongoing, is travel to US from Canada permitted? Will we be likely to encounter issues from customs? We are already being hassled frequently - they state we have to get the visa process moving (we are only engaged at moment - June wedding is planned).

    Thanks

  8. Hello,

So my fiance and I have decided we want to get married first, and then go the CR1 route as opposed to the K1. This is largely due to the fact I want to be able to work as soon as I come over to the US with our son.. My question - are we legally allowed to get married in the state of PA without going the K1 route? I am planning on returning to Canada after we marry and then we will be going through the CR1 process.

    Thank you!

  9. Hello,

I am Canadian going to be marrying an American, and we are going to go the CR-1 spouse visa route. I am having a bit of difficulty locating the income requirements other than 125% above poverty line for the state of PA. Does anyone know or have a link to the appropriate info regarding how much money my boyfriend has to make in order to be able to sponser me and our son (who was born in Canada but has blood right to american citizenship)??

Secondly, I read that the past 3 tax returns had to be submitted. What if he only has this year and last year (due to starting up a business right after school and not making any income prior to that). Does this mean we will have to get his dad or someone else to sign the support papers even if he is making enough money now?

    Thanks in advance!

  10. Hello everyone,

I am canadian (living in Canada), and my son's father is an American Citizen. We are planning on getting married in either Canada or Mexico in the Fall. Due to unexpected circumstances I think I will have to file for bankruptcy in the next couple of months. My question is: will this have an impact on me getting a CR-1 visa after we marry?

    Thank you.
