  1. I did not receive the same email, my was more specific to my case (I had a couple of issues they addressed for me), but they did say 5 months wait. It definately is a bummer you had to cancel and then try to reschedule a month later, but there is no point beating yourself up over it. Keep your fingers crossed for an end of summer interview, as this seems to correspond with the 5 month wait time since your email stating you were ready to reschedule. I wouldn't expect any email/correspondence from them until you get your new appointment letter....good luck with everything, and hopefully you will get lucky and get an earlier interview!

  2. Hello,

My husband is USC, I am Canadian. My son primarily resides with me in Canada, but has US passport and is with his dad sometimes. We are not quite sure how to file our taxes:

I will file mine in Canada. My son will be my dependent.

    - Does this mean that my husband cannot file his US taxes with our son as a dependent because I am filing with him as my dependent in Canada?

    - If we file married filing separately, I do not need an SSN or ITIN correct?

    - We were also reading something about my husband filing as head of household...can he do this if he uses my son as dependent? or is this only for unmarried people?

    Thanks

Sorry if I seem really uneducated about htis, but I dont really know how this works in our situation....

  3. The supporting documents that were needed was my sons canadian birth certificate (long form with both parents info), a copy of our marriage certificate, my husband had to fill out this affidavit of support form (which we got online) and physical presence form, copies of both my husband and my passport as well as birth certificates and drivers license. The info was all in the passport application form. Go to section 2 - where it states other forms of acceptable identification if a report of birth abroad has not been filed. He's had his passport for months now, no issues what so ever. Also keep in mind though when i brought all this info to the post office to submit it, they had never seen anyone apply like that. I was positive I filled everything out correctly and had the appropriate documents that I told her to just send it all in. Less than 2 weeks later we got all the documents back with a passport for my son.

Thanks for all of your answers. Everything is in order, completely organized in seperate envelopes. (yeah I'm a bit like Wyatt's torch...like to have lots of proof of US residence documents just in case)

We're doing the register of Birth abroad and the passport applications for the kids at the same appt, which is Wednesday morning. I'll be sure to let you know how it all goes.

Amy83, I read your posts about just getting the passport only. There must have been other supporting documentation you already had, as my instruction form for the passport says they need either a US birth Certificate, or register of birth abroad, etc. Glad it worked out so easily for you though.

Now if the process for the CR1 was as easy!

  4. I got the generated response email immediately after i emailed the consulate, 2.5 weeks later I received a typed email specific to my scenario. The DOS agent was a person, and they are able to open your file and see any notes written by the consulate, but they will not communicate anything to the consulate for you (unless maybe change of address i dont know if they would do something clerical), and are not able to schedule you an appointment.

  5. Hello,

I know Canadians can get their medical done in Toronto or MTL, but was wondering can we get it done in the US? I dont' really want to travel to Toronto (not a fan of that city at all) and my husband lives just as close as Toronto, so I would rather travel there -- it would be PA or OH or even MI that I would be interested in getting it done there.

    Thanks,

    Amy

  6. We were going to file the birth abroad, and then found out you actually dont have to. You can just apply for you childs U.S passport. Thats all we did, it was really easy, we didn't have to go anywhere but the post office to drop off the application with all the required copies of documents. My son and I still live in Canada in the process of CR-1.

  7. I asked to be rescheduled as soon as possible. This is when I was told the wait would be 5 months and I would be looking at an interview around Aug. Since you emailed them in Feb and they take a little while to actually process the emails, I would think you would be looking at around Aug also. You can call the DOS and although they cannot schedule you an appointment, they can look at your file and see any notes that may have been put in your file. This is how I found out that Montreal received my email to reschedule. It was three days after I talked to DOS agent that I received email from Montreal.

  8. I too had to reschedule my interview in Montreal, and they told me it would be about 5months. So the fact you haven't heard from them is no surprise. I was told by DOS agent as well as through email from Montreal consulate that I would get the new appointment letter via email (same way I got the last one), but not to expect anything for about 4-5months. I was told this yesterday from the DOS agent, and got an email from MTL about 2.5weeks from the date I sent the first one saying I needed to cancel the interview.

Im not sure your questions on domicile.

  9. I have travelled numerous times with my husband (also many times before we were married), and we got pulled into secondary a few times (while I was pregnant), but otherwise we have just been quizzed a bit but they eventually let us through. I also did not have any ties to canada as i jsut finished school and was living with parents. Since we have been married its been a piece of cake crossing. I tell them i have my paperwork for cr-1 visa and we have not had much issue at all. I would just try to pack light...as packing huge suitcase has raised some questions with border guards. Good Luck :)

  10. Hello,

I am aware that after the visa is issued, I have 6months to move to the U.S. Does this mean that all of my furniture, etc has to be moved when I move? Or can I wait until a later date to move it? I ask because when i move over to the US we will likely be living in PA for a few months before moving out west to CO. I wanted to avoid moving my stuff twice, and just hire movers to move it from Canada to CO when we move out west (it will likely be within 6months from me actually moving to the U.S).

Second question: Am I allowed to bring my pet ball python to the U.S? I have tried to find info online and can't seem to find anything that seems reliable regarding this.

    thanks for all your help!

  11. Thank you!

    Hi Amy,

Well currently Montreal is taking more like 5-6 months to schedule an interview - so you may be looking at around April-May for an interview (unless they pick up the pace considerably).

There are a few people who post in the Canada forum here that I have seen, that have rescheduled their interviews. Generally you kind of go to the back of the line. So if that were the case you might not see an interview until September next year.

Anyway, it's really difficult to say, Montreal is so backed up right now, but they say they are working on it, so if things did pick up who knows when you might get rescheduled.

As for ramifications in general, they don't seem to really care if you reschedule.

  12. Hello,

So I had NVC login fail last week...haven't got the interview date yet. From what I can tell I will likely get a date for around March. If i go in march and pass, I would then have 6 months to move (this would put it at sept). Is there any way I can delay the interview for a few extra months? I have some family health problems here in Canada, and will likely not be ready to move that early. Any experience with delaying interview dates? Any ramifications of this? insight would be helpful as im stressing.

    Thanks

    Amy

  13. Im assembling the IV packet and reading the instructions it states "The applicant and each family member who will accompany the applicant to the United States will need to submit two front-view color photographs with a white background." My son who was born in Canada and lives with me there will be moving to the US with me, but we are not doing a visa for him as he has blood right to citizenship (US passport pending) - do I still submit photos of him as well ? (hes 1.5yrs old)

  14. Thank you!

Really it depends where you are having your medical. If it is in Toronto at Seiden & Associates - they ask for 3, they used to do medicals in Calgary as well and I think my Husband had to take 3 there as well. You will also need 2 for the interview in Montreal.

Thank you! Is it three different sets (IV packet, medical, interview) that they want?
