You aren't alone we filed in January 2008 and my spouse just his Green Card about a week ago. We did contact our congresswoman's office and I do believe they had a hand in getting our approval.

You need to do this asap! You are required to change your address with USCIS within 10 days of your move. You can do this online now at https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=coa. Hope this helps!

We got our approval the same day you did and my husband got his on this past monday. I know this may not help but I would think if the approvals got mailed the same day it should be around the same time you get your card.

Yes you can apply for citizenship while your I-751 is processing (i believe) as long as you meet the requirements, however imo you should just wait for your GC. Have you applied to renew your passport yet? If not I think that would be the next step, you need a new passport anyway. If you don't receive an approval by the time your passport expires (and you have the re-newed passport) I would make another info-pass appointment explaining you need another I-551 stamp because your old one expired, and if you still have it bring your old passport with you that way they can see the old one is expired.

Did you get the I-551 stamp in your passport? I am not sure if the same rules apply in PR as they do in the states but sometimes from my understanding they do take your GC away when you get the I-551 stamp. The old GC card isnt good anymore anyway. I hope this helps! I would make sure you keep any documentation USCIS sends you regarding your case.

Sorry about the delay. I would make an appointment at you senator/congresswomans office if you can. When I was dealing with the liason at our congresswomans office she let it slip (i think) that they have a direct # to VSC. After she called we got an RFE within the week and an approval about 10 days later. I hope if anything that this may help. If not you could always drive to VT

I saw it too, way too unrealistic as far as I am concerned. I found it hard to believe it would take less than a week for immigration to come a knockin'. If it did take less than a week I think a non-criminal from Canada would be on the bottom of the list to be deported.

I got a call from our Congresswoman's immigration liason this morning saying that my husbands Green Card was approved. When we got home the approval notice was in the mailbox. YAY!!!!

Approved 5/7/2009.

So after 16 months of waiting we finally don't have to be jerked around by USCIS anymore!!

I hope its just random, the letter sounded totally nasty. Assuming we were 'trying to circumvent immigration law' <<--- this statement was in the letter

We contacted our local congresswoman's office, we got a response from USCIS within about 3 weeks, granted it was an RFE but at least that means it wasn't gathering dust anymore....

RFE after 15 months .... Just sent ours off today received it on Saturday.

We didnt have a lot of info from the first part of our marriage 2004-2007 becauase all of those bank accounts have long since closed, same with utilities from our prior address... Let me know what you think.

The reason in the letter was that our petition Did not span the entire period of our marriage in sufficient detail. When reading the documents we sent them i.e. Travel documents of when we went to visit his family together (why would I take a vacation with someone I don't have a relationship with?!?!) Copy of our Auto Insurance with him listed as a named insured (he had just recently gotten his license in 2006) I sent copies of my 2007 policies, Affadvaits from my family members certifing we have an ongoing loving relationship, my pay stub claiming my status as single (only so we can have the max taxes taken out when we file for our refunds, which we included copies of our tax returns) and an old lease. The main problem we will most likely come across is we cannot provide proof except leases from we first got married in 2004. We never had joint bank account until just recently, the same with utilities they have always been in my name....

We previously provided copies of our tax returns, pictures, affadavits from family members, our lease, copies of bills, proof that we visited the UK together. I honestly am at my wit's end.

I understand how you feel to an extent. My husband is leaving is going to visit his family for about a week and a half in a couple months. I know he is going to 'live it up' while he is gone. I am just afriad of being lonely mostly. We haven't spent more than 24 hours apart since we got married in 2004. We have gone to visit his family in the UK a couple times together since we have been married but this time he is going alone.

Interesting thread. There seems to be some confusion over who is covered and who isn't. The ol' we insure the car debate vs we insure "these drivers" who are driving this car.

In Texas, I was allowed to use my foreign license for 1 year. Handy. But how about insurance? Well, here we have it such as that anybody who has a driver's license (from anywhere) can drive your vehicle provided they're not a member of your household. That means when I used to fly down to visit my (then girlfriend, now wife) before I moved here, I could drive her vehicle no problem....After I moved here, technically I was not allowed to drive her car since I was now a member of her household. If my mother flys down to visit me, she can drive my car no problem.

I'm with Geico and they have a few different driver classifications: Active, At School, Military, Excluded, Non Driver, Other Insurance.

Active: Can drive on your plan.

At School: More than 100 miles away. Drives your car once a month.

Military: Deployed

Excluded: Can't drive on your plan.

Non Driver: Doesn't have a license. Can't drive your car.

Other Insurance: Somebody other than your spouse who has insurance from somewhere else. Doesn't drive your car.

(All of the active/at school etc stuff is explained on Geico's online user profile that you can set up for yourself. Shows your cars, your drivers, your costs and discounts, when your policy ends, your next bill etc)

• My wife and I are both active.
• Excluded drivers could be for example "her son on my car." He could drive her car, but not mine.
• Non Driver would be for some of you who have spouses from foreign countries who can't drive in your US state but would allow you a married discount.
• I'm not sure why the Other Insurance category exists. I could see this being a roommate of yours.

As far as agents go, I've never understood why people in the US have agents. When I lived in British Columbia in Canada, we had 1 insurance company. You simply stopped by any office that sold insurance and bought some. No different than going to Starbucks on this street or Starbucks on that street. There was no agent other than the person at the desk who took your money and gave you the paperwork and license plate sticker.

As for being hit by a driver who is excluded on the other person's car? You're poop out of luck. Since they're not legally allowed to drive that person's car, it means you'll either have to file a claim on your underinsurance or if you don't have underinsurance, you eat the cost of the repair yourself. It's essentially the same as being hit by a driver who has no insurance whatsoever. There's been a lot of news reports about the abundance of uninsured people driving on the roads.

Guy's car gets hit by a teenager driving his dad's pickup. Dad has son excluded from his insurance policy. Guy doesn't have underinsurance on his car because he's broke and the car isn't worth much. Now he has no car and nothing to pay for the damage and loss of it.

Geico (at least in Texas) had no problem with me buying insurance and being added to my wife's policy when I still had a foreign license. Later on when I got my US license, I simply phoned them up and gave them the new TX license numbers and that was it.

All of the information above is correct except the underinsurance portion, it only pays if the driver of the car isn't at fault for the accident.

To be perfectly honest if the person you are renting from carries insurance on that house most policies cover fence damage (subject to policy deductible). The most hopefully you should be out is the $100. If he tries to keep back your security deposit I would try and fight him. If you have renters insurance I would also check the languange in your policy because it *may* cover this sort of damage if the landlord is deeming the rot to the fence as maintenance.

It depends on your insurance company, I work for an insurance company who deals with a lot of military personnel so it isn't unusual to have foreign spouses on the policy. I have never asked when adding a foreign spouse for their driving record. I always just ask how long they have had a license. I think it really all depends on the company.
