  1. Hi All,

I recieved my new green card but there's an error. I came here in the USA on 2009 but in my new GC (10 yrs.) it was 2008 instead of 2009. I checked my old green card (conditional GC) and was all correct date. I also did checked the documentations that I endorsed to them when I apply for the removal of condition regarding my status. Obviously it's their fault, a typo. What do I need to do? Do I have to make an info pass for just give them a call? thank you all for reading :)

  2. Hi guys, I received my NOA-1 this morning. It said that my conditional resident status is being extended for a period of one year. Please find the letter attachment because am so confused. I do not know if I need to send the documentations that they are asking from us or not since i already send most of it. Is there a chance for me to receive my 10 years green card even though it is clearly stated that they are extending my conditional status? I hope somebody can enlightened me. thanks :)post-60636-0-58825000-1300484712_thumb.jpg

  3. Back at the dawn of the Web, the most popular account password was "12345."

Today, it's one digit longer but hardly safer: "123456."

Despite all the reports of Internet security breaches over the years, including the recent attacks on Google's e-mail service, many people have reacted to the break-ins with a shrug.

According to a new analysis, one out of five Web users still decides to leave the digital equivalent of a key under the doormat: they choose a simple, easily guessed password like "abc123," "iloveyou" or even "password" to protect their data.

"I guess it's just a genetic flaw in humans," said Amichai Shulman, the chief technology officer at Imperva, which makes software for blocking hackers. "We've been following the same patterns since the 1990s."

Mr. Shulman and his company examined a list of 32 million passwords that an unknown hacker stole last month from RockYou, a company that makes software for users of social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace. The list was briefly posted on the Web, and hackers and security researchers downloaded it. (RockYou, which had already been widely criticized for lax privacy practices, has advised its customers to change their passwords, as the hacker gained information about their e-mail accounts as well.)

The trove provided an unusually detailed window into computer users' password habits. Typically, only government agencies like the F.B.I. or the National Security Agency have had access to such a large password list.

"This was the mother lode," said Matt Weir, a doctoral candidate in the e-crimes and investigation technology lab at Florida State University, where researchers are also examining the data.

Imperva found that nearly 1 percent of the 32 million people it studied had used "123456" as a password. The second-most-popular password was "12345." Others in the top 20 included "qwerty," "abc123" and "princess."

More disturbing, said Mr. Shulman, was that about 20 percent of people on the RockYou list picked from the same, relatively small pool of 5,000 passwords.

That suggests that hackers could easily break into many accounts just by trying the most common passwords. Because of the prevalence of fast computers and speedy networks, hackers can fire off thousands of password guesses per minute.

"We tend to think of password guessing as a very time-consuming attack in which I take each account and try a large number of name-and-password combinations," Mr. Shulman said. "The reality is that you can be very effective by choosing a small number of common passwords."

Some Web sites try to thwart the attackers by freezing an account for a certain period of time if too many incorrect passwords are typed. But experts say that the hackers simply learn to trick the system, by making guesses at an acceptable rate, for instance.

To improve security, some Web sites are forcing users to mix letters, numbers and even symbols in their passwords. Others, like Twitter, prevent people from picking common passwords.

Still, researchers say, social networking and entertainment Web sites often try to make life simpler for their users and are reluctant to put too many controls in place.

Even commercial sites like eBay must weigh the consequences of freezing accounts, since a hacker could, say, try to win an auction by freezing the accounts of other bidders.

Overusing simple passwords is not a new phenomenon. A similar survey examined computer passwords used in the mid-1990s and found that the most popular ones at that time were "12345," "abc123" and "password."

Why do so many people continue to choose easy-to-guess passwords, despite so many warnings about the risks?

Security experts suggest that we are simply overwhelmed by the sheer number of things we have to remember in this digital age.

"Nowadays, we have to keep probably 10 times as many passwords in our head as we did 10 years ago," said Jeff Moss, who founded a popular hacking conference and is now on the Homeland Security Advisory Council. "Voice mail passwords, A.T.M. PINs and Internet passwords — it's so hard to keep track of."

In the idealized world championed by security specialists, people would have different passwords for every Web site they visit and store them in their head or, if absolutely necessary, on a piece of paper.

But bowing to the reality of our overcrowded brains, the experts suggest that everyone choose at least two different passwords — a complex one for Web sites were security is vital, such as banks and e-mail, and a simpler one for places where the stakes are lower, such as social networking and entertainment sites.

Mr. Moss relies on passwords at least 12 characters long, figuring that those make him a more difficult target than the millions of people who choose five- and six-character passwords.

"It's like the joke where the hikers run into a bear in the forest, and the hiker that survives is the one who outruns his buddy," Mr. Moss said. "You just want to run that bit faster."

  4. In every state, one needs a learner's permit to be allowed to learn how to drive on any street or highway. You need to have it while you learn. As a fiance, you may not be eligible to obtain a learner's permit anyway. Most states require evidence that you have applied for your green card, or have your work permit.

Not completely true. Many states allow you to drive on a foreign license. Some states, such as Wisconsin, let you drive for up to one year and explicitly state that your home country must be party to the Geneva Convention and the Regulation of Inter-American Motor Vehicle Traffic. If you don't have a valid foreign license, then yes this is true, but if you do, you may be just fine driving on your foreign license once you arrive.

the OP clearly stated that she never had a driver's license in her home country...as far as i know you need to have a learner's permit in learning how to drive... it's very risky learning n the wheel without any some sort of license..insurance WISE

  5. Hi Guys,

I am now in the USA through CR1 visa..after i week i got my SSN and a week after i got my I-797C, NOA (welcome notice) and after five days i got another I-797C, NOA (ASC Appointment Notice) the case type is I485 Application to register permanent resident or adjust status....the USCIS must capture your biometrics to process our application.

I came from Japan through DCF application, honestly i didn't know NOA before, because we didn't deal with USCIS.

I got confused with the ASC Appointment or do i have to worry about this notice? Because i expect to receive a conditional green card soon....i really need to know what's going on my application....thanks ahead.

Biometrics is not something you should worry about, it's normal. They will take your fingerprints and take a picture of you for your CGC.

thanks... just confused because i didn't expect to visit USCIS since i came here as an immigrant and the officer said at my POE that u just have to wait for your green card to arrive at the mail.

  7. But other than that, It's kinda of a no brainer to retire in PI.

For those so challenged with English please let me interpret:

"But other than that, It's kinda of a no brainer to retire in PI" means "For those who are thinking about it, to consider retiring in the PI is a relatively easy decision"

OK now for you, I was not asking if I should retire in PI, read the post, I simply asked a nice place to live, now maybe you are challenged in the English language, but once again if you dont understand or like the question I asked then simply dont respond. Some people are such internet bad azzes!

Somewhere in Cebu Province/City is a good place to retire..close to beaches, lots of good restaurants also, malls. Maybe because i am from Cebu...

  9. My husband started to be so defensive when I asked him about the name of the woman who is attached into his address. I got it in the mail yesterday and while he is on travel he instructed me to open everything. Then here comes an unknown name of a woman. I emailed him asking about it no reply. So when we chatted few hours ago. I kept asking wont answer me immediately.

Now, he started telling me his been question of who he is. Good Lord! I was just asking him who she was and why she was still in his account in the credit card since they parted 5 yrs. ago. I do love him so much but I'm not the type of filipina who hide my feelings and wait for it until it explodes. That's hard you know. I was so candid of my feelings but he thought I doubt him. He gave alibis like did he care about my past. We don't talk about ex ex here. I dont want to play blind and deaf as if everythings okay. Wherein fact I am aching inside? No way! I can't do that. I reiterate to him. I am not a nanny nor a housemaid that I wont care about your mail and names of these people on the mail. As a wife , I have the right to know if you don't want that. Why did you marry? lol He was quiet for a moment then told me he is tired and this and that.

Our chat wasn't good so I feel like I started the fight? I didn't do anything to hurt him. All I did was asking him of what I don't know.

I know that bothers you a lot, the two of you need to sit down and talk like adults and hopefully will be over soon. You should also ask him to remove her (the other woman) from his CC account. Don't be accussatory with hm too. You are the wife and you have the right to know the story behind the woman's name in his CC.

Good luck to both of you!!!!

  10. Got NOA1 on the 17th. No touches yet... I really hope this process goes quickly... what are the odds she can get an interview date by the end of Semptember? I'll be over there this summer but I have to come back here for classes, I'd love to attend the interview (and love even more for her to come back to the US with me at the same time) but it seems pretty unlikely at this point...

I just want to be with my girl again asap :(

This timeline from a Japan filer was less than 2 months NOA1 to NOA2! Is that possible or highly highly unlikely?

I think she will be able to have the interview before september.. They're very quick in processing but that's case to case basis. I hope yours is not complicated. Good luck!!!

  11. Anyone had an interview? Do you know what we will be asked at the emabassy? I am kind of scared. My boyfriend and I have met each other during highschool. We took the same math class, but we became a real couple when I started college. He did not propose. We just started talking about marriage after we had been together over 4 years. I am really worried about questions. Maybe I am just worried for no reasons.

    Hi Guys,

Getting nervous and worried is just very normal. I just had my cr1 visa processed in US embassy tokyo. Everything went perfectly normal. Just be prepared for all evidences of your relationship. USembassy tokyo, i would say is very organized, effecient and the officers were all very friendly. Most of the questions were regarding the relationship...so if your relationship is genuine, there is nothing to worry about. Just be true. The good news is that the rate of denial in Japan is very low plus lots of americans here because of the military bases. If there's anything i can do to help you guys about the processing just pm me.

    Good luck to all!!!

  12. Hello to everybody here! My husband and I just got back from the Philippines. We stayed there for 2 weeks for his dental work and spent the holy week with my family. On the day of our flight, (it was at Centennial Airport PAL). We checked in our bags, showed them our passports, greencard etc etc... The lady told first that I have to pay Php 1,620 for the tax plus Php750 terminal tax. I was like huh? Isn't it included in my ticket already? she said no... then she paused and looked for my greencard and said "oh i'm sorry you only have to pay Php200 plus Php750. I didn't see your greencard" She said i need to go to the "information" and get a paper for tax exemption and give it to her(she said i don't need to get in the line). My husband called it "ransom" only in the Philippines you cant leave without paying the Php750.

Aren't you guys angry about those taxes? I mean... they don't accept cards! only cash either in peso or dollar! WHY? I don't understand. Please enlighten me. Why don't they just put it all in the ticket? or charge the airline and let the airline do whatever they want to collect those. Why is it always cash? why not credit cards or debit cards? I know I sound naive but I just simply don't understand. grrr!!! and why the OFW don't need to pay anything?!?! just because they think immigrants and those who are going for tourist have more money? eh?

Also, have you seen anything like this? We stayed at Bellevue Manila in Ayala-Alabang because they have a holy week promo for two nights it cost only Pho6,000. But you will also see on their website "This is only for Filipino residents" Nakakaloka ang discrimination!

We went to Ayala Museum... they charge more to tourist than Pinoys. Bakit?! I have never seen anything like this in USA. Wow nakakahiya! I feel so ashamed about this in front of my husband. USA never ever charges different rates just because you are a Pinoy, Japanese, Chinese etc.. etc...

    Additional:

Taxis! omg... they will always always! try to give you a high rate, won't use their meter and the baddest of all is that when we are already seated and moving the driver will say "pede makidagdagan nalang po? or something like metro plus 100" (could you please add after the meter? or meter plus 100pesos) Thats when we are inside and the taxi is moving already. My husband was so angry and we would just leave it doesnt matter where or if its in an intersection and won't close the door.

    Grabe! Just sharing!

You should pay for the PTA if you got the ticket outside the philippines. Yeah, you have to pay the terminal fee for 750.00 for using the airport. As a matter of fact everybody paid the terminal fee. But most countries included the terminal fee on the airline ticket. Philippines is not the only country who'd done that, but i heard they're gonna change that soon.

Lots of hotel also who had promotions only for locals. We stayed in Hilton Cebu before and we were not able to avail the promotion for the same reason. We also experience the same local promotional rates in France. About the taxi, that's worst, happened all the time with foreign nationals in PH.

Sorry about your not good experiences in our own country.

  13. the Adam Walsh Act strictly forbids anyone who has been convicted of any " specified offense against a minor " from filing a family-based petition on behalf of any beneficiary, unless you can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you pose no risk to the safety or well being... ". in my case i am a person who has been convicted of an specified offense against a minor and at this time i now have to prove to the USCIS that i am not a threat to my fiancee' and i have this one chance to do it or my petition will be denied. the suggested guidelines of evidence that may prove my non-threatening self basically involve professional evaluations and documentation that is very similar to the type that one receive if they were in counseling or group therapy. this may include polygraphs, ABEL screening and/or very complicated and in depth behavioral assessments. these paticular evaluations are costly and will require time and dedication to complete. i have started to gather information and make preparations, to prove to those who are in the positions to decide our future, to get our petition approved so that my honey and i can be together. we will see this through til the end. there are others that are also waiting to be approved so please share your experiences so that we all can benefit...

I am sorry to hear about your case. I hope you will make it through. Open your mind and heart about the possibilities. There were applicants who were denied even with strong evidence presented. I had a friend who had a consul bf, and he said that Adam Walsch is one very important part of the process. I am telling you this because i want you to be strong and be ready. I wish you luck and your fiancee.

  14. If everything goes according to plan I will be with her at the embassy, even if not we will have pictures together from like every day up until the interview so that shouldn't be a problem. Everything I've read about the embassy in Tokyo is that they ask pretty tame questions, even only one or two in some cases! So I'm not really worried, they have no reason to deny it.

I had my visa processed in tokyo and you are right, percentage of denial is very low...but you'll never know, i agree with everybody else, let her keep the job until she'll have the visa in hand. For as long as your relationship is strong, no need to worry. The consul only ask me 3 questions..i was at the embassy at 7:30 for an 8 o'clock appointment, i went out at 9:30...US embassy japan were very effecient and very organized.

  15. Hi guys, I have question regarding my police cert from taiwan. I worked there so many yrs ago 1999-2001 and i got my police certificate last 2003. now i am wondering if it still valid since its 2009 now but i was only there for that period of time do you think the NVC will accept it? or they will ask me to get a new one? I got my new local PCC last month from where im living now. Anybody have an idea? pls give me your insights. I am going to send the ds230 to my hubby today and just want to be ready just in case they will not accept my old one from taiwan. waiting for you reply thank you all.

for as long as you were not back in taiwan from the time you have the certificate, i guess that's ok....but to make it sure, just get a new one, its very easy and affordable to apply through mail. I did it myself...normally police certificate valid only for a year.

  17. I am thinking about starting a book club, open to anyone from any region. I've been reading a lot during this process and maybe you have too. We can pick a book read it and then talk about it as we go, or we can discuss books we have already read! I'm open for any suggestions. Reading has helped me pass the time and every once in a while someone mentions a book that they have read, an author they like....lets have a whole thread about what we read.

Hi..i wanna join...i read a lot too but this days more on fiction books.....

  18. I noticed that there are so many controversies here in our very own Philippine forum lately and I'm saddened by it seriously. Please let us keep the PEACE here brothers and sisters instead of attacking each other and fighting for nonsense things .We are all here to help and support each other especially those who are still in limbo and desperate to be united with their loved ones here in the US. Let's be careful if we want to post something and see if it's offensive or not. If it will only provoke anger and hatred then refrain from posting such topic so we can keep the peace. :)(F)(F)(F)

  19. I am in total "can't sit still" mode here. Luz will arrive in 30 hours and my head is spinning!:dance::dance: As some of you may know this has been a 3 year long ordeal for us. It seemed that there were non-stop roadblocks for three years straight. We overcame them one-at-a-time and our reward is now close. I just can't picture the moment when Luz and Robin step off of the airplane tomorrow afternoon. It all just doesn't seem real yet.

Luz and I had our last web chat last night. She is in Manila and she talked to me from a cafe near the hotel. That will seem weird. Other than my visits there, for three years all I saw of her was over a web cam. It will be nice to have a conversation with her without a cam freezing or the mic stopping.

My life is about to radically change. I have been alone for a long time now and I try to imagine Luz and Robin living our daily lives together. It's the little things I look forward to most. Dinner with a family, family vacations, sunday outings together and just having a normal life for a change. And to have these things with a woman that I am absolutely nuts about makes the future seem like heaven.

Thanks for the forum to drivel on. I just needed to let it out before I explode!

Good luck to you and Luz. You deserve all the happiness in the world...
