  1. Had the biometric yesterday. Everything went well and we now have a touch registering online for that day. The staff at the Rhode Island ASC office were VERY nice and helpful. Hope we hear back about our EAD soon, as my husband is currently working for a university on a temp EAD (the passport stamp from JFK) and we'd like him to be able to continue to do so. ::fingers crossed::

I thought that stamp was no longer valid for work. Hm. But I won't tell.

  2. Hello, hope everyone is doing ok.

As for me not so good, found out i have to go back to school for my beauty qualification, because of all the system being different to england, iv been told its easier to just go back to school and redo it, and i was also was advised not to do nail technology, which is what i wanted to specialize in :S. So now iv some major thinking to do. Was hoping it was going to be much easier but i guess it never is lol :(

Blargh, what a major pain in the you-know-what. I'm hoping we don't have to re-educate my husband ... or else he might end up a fast food worker the rest of his life  I hope you can make it work out for the best!! Maybe you can take up learning hair and nails? That way you'd be extra attractive as a full service salon employee.

Not too much news with us. We filed AOS at the beginning of last month but still haven't received a bio letter, so I'm itching to call them as soon as it's 30 days from our NOA date. Oh, and we got a kitten :luv:

  3. I don't know why this has to be so hard. I had bought some clothes for my new job, been looking at insurance quotes, was going to put a deposit down on an apartment... but because of this failed test, I don't think it's going to work out. She has no idea how much she may have just ruined my life. I know that sounds dramatic, but after waiting 1.5 years, everything was finally working out for me.

I feel for you so much, Gemmie :( I've been reading here and there about your many struggles and was so super happy for you when you got your job offer. I can't imagine the letdown.

It's my sincerest hope that that lady was just having a cranky day during your first test and that you pass with flying colors on your second go around!

The good news is you successfully parallel parked, which a lot of people (myself included) fail miserably at. They should waive the whole curb thing just for that!

  4. Update- Ryan had to go back to England before he could do his biometrics, while his AOS was still pending. Soooo, unfortunately we had to withdraw his AOS and now we have to do an I-130 to bring him back. Does anyone have or has anyone heard any information on this process. We are pretty sad about the whole thing, as we have heard it is taking over 5 months just for the I-130, not to mention everything else after that. I am really confused on if we should do the K-3 as well. What to do, what to to?! Someone tell me!! Yucky!

Oh noooooo! I'm sorry this happened, but I'm sure your husband had a really good reason for needing to go back home.

PM me if you want to discuss! I don't know anything about the I-130/CR-1 process, but I'm a good researcher, and I'd be happy to help you guys out!

  5. I know my case is in Missouri as well because starts with MSC, I should have changed that in my profile sorry. I don't know if AOS matters wheter it is F-1 or K1...

I don't know if it matters F-1 or K-1 (probably does), but personally, since we haven't received a biometrics letter, either, I will be calling the customer service line once we hit the 30 day mark from our NOA1 date. Maybe they can get it moving.

  6. Has anybody but robertlaird's cases shown up online? Ours still won't come up.

Ours didn't show up for 2 or 3 days after we got our hard copy NOAs.

We're still twiddling our thumbs waiting around for a biometrics letter. I hope it comes soon, because then I'll finally be able to shake the compulsion to email my husband every day asking if it came in the mail.

  7. Update: my husband happily listened to my arooroo-ing, left for work, immediately rang the doorbell and presented me with the returned package that came in the post just as he was leaving. I can still be an October filer! Huzzah!

Edited to add: those Phoenix hoodlums have stolen all my paperclips! I guess that's what I get for inconveniencing them. Grrr! I'm as mad as I've ever been!

Yay, it's very lucky that it was returned to you and not lost in a USCIS void! Get to re-sending, quick!!

Regarding the paperclips - jerks! :hehe:

  8. ok we found out what the problem was...Application was mailed back to us saying we had an out of date form..I checked all the dates and they were current so I'll be checking them again on Monday and mailing Monday evening again!! Sigh!

Good news though I have my EAD in hand!

    Brandi

Oh no, sorry to hear about that! Hopefully all is well after Monday

Yay for your EAD! At least you can get to working while your AOS is being processed!

  9. See bold above. I know this has been beaten to death but people come here for accurate, reliable guidance. Anybody eligible to marry can marry anytime they want. If a couple marries during the K1 process, that process becomes null and void. They start over with a spouse immigration process. Whether somebody who marries in the USA while here legally needs to leave and pursue a spouse visa process, depends on their specific circumstances. In many if not most cases, they can simply stay and adjust their status. The exception is if they lied about the purpose of their visit during their entrance interview with a CBP officer.

Very true. I wish I could edit my edit.

  10. I agree strongly with Nik+Heather, but I also had a question. I checked the drivers' services/DMV-type website for MA, and it seems like they book appointments online? Do you know if they have a phone number, like an 800 number, or at least the number to your local office? If so, I would try calling them to find out if there is anything earlier. In desperation, I would probably even go so far as to call every day to find out if anyone has cancelled. Sounds weird, but just throwing it out there!

I wish the system was like in IL - first come, first served as far as a test goes. Well, best of luck to you! I really hope it works out, whatever happens

  11. but who applies for the K-3 visa if this isn't allowed? How did they get married before getting a visa? I'm still new to this, so please excuse my ignorance... Thanks for any advice!

Hi advocator! You asked who applies for the K-3 (or CR-1, for that matter)? You don't need a visa specifically to get married. People can come on the visa waiver program and be married to a US citizen while they are in the US, or a tourist visa, or any number of other types of visas.

BUT those people must return to their home countries following the marriage, because they were originally admitted into the US as tourists or on the visa waiver, etc, and NOT as immigrants. Then, typically the K-3 or CR-1 process can begin.

As many others have already said, K-1 filers can't be married during the process.

    Edit: for clairty.

  12. Question...are you guys getting the vaccinations transcribed onto the I-693 or are you just sending a copy of the DS-3025? I had planned to get my husband's vaccinations transcribed but I forgot all about it, and now I want to mail everything off today or tomorrow. Can't do that if we still need the transcription.

We contemplated NOT getting my husband's vaccinations transcribed, because it looked like everything was in good order. Fortunately, we ended up seeing a CS in our area, where we found out my husband actually needed one more round of MMR. They jabbed him and then did the transcription.

It's a little neurotic, but right before I mailed off my husband's AOS paperwork, I decided to print out the page of the I-693 instructions that says K-1s don't need another medical within a year and highlight the relevant information and stick it in the packet. I then wrote a short explanation citing the instructions and explaining that we had the vaccination portion transcribed because that's all that is needed.

I know it sucks to wait a little longer, but I would strongly recommend having a CS check out your records and transcribe them. You might find you're actually missing something you didn't realize you're missing - just don't let them coerce you into doing a full medical exam. I don't know what part of the US you guys live in now, but there is a GREAT thread in the AOS forum that lists civil surgeons who don't rip you off. We picked our CS off of that list. Good luck!

  13. I just couldn't leave this thread without adding one thing: "hypercritical" and "hypocritical" are two different words with two different meanings. So, there's actually no spelling issue in that case at all!

While I'm here, I'll just add that I've lived in the Chicago suburbs for all of my 23 years, and while I think "the city" is a nice place to visit, I definitely wouldn't want to live there!!

  14. I had my interview on Tuesday at a hospital, and two days later I was called for a second one. I just had it, and I think it went really well. I feel quite confident that I'll get the job. The doctor is Canadian so we connected a little over the weird health system differences, and we made each other laugh talking about our husbands. They used phrases such as "what you'll be doing" and asking when I can start, etc. They said they're out all of next week but will call me the week after. So fingers crossed. :)

It's working with women in prison to help them prevent pregancy and STD's when they get out. My job would be to give them counselling/interviewing while they're there, and then follow up with them the year after their release to give them tests and direct them to health care. So it sounds like an interesting position.

Again, I know this is the b1tchy thread so to contrast with the perky mood I'm in today... um, I totally hate that my jeans are too tight today and digging into my hips.

Kind of jumping in on this thread out of nowhere here, but I've read up on your plight recently and wanted to congratulate you on your very successful interview. It sounds like you're going to get a job
