Now your parents can come here, live here with you until your husband becomes a US citizen, then he could adjust their status.

So the question is what evidence do they have that that won't happen?

He is already a citizen, but they don't want to live here. Would it be better if we already had a loose itinerary for a vacation planned?

A letter from the school would make zero difference in whether or not she has ties to Guatemala and would be returning after her stay in the US.

She was in a program of study that gave her permission for one month to travel and then return and share her experiences. How does that not show ties to Guatemala?

I guess it doesn’t matter anymore now that she is done with school, I’m just curious as to why you say it makes zero difference.

  3. My husband wants his parents and little sister to visit us here. He applied for his sister by herself 2 years ago before she turned 18 and she was denied (even though she had a letter from her school giving her a month’s permission, but they refused to look at the letter).

Now, could it negatively impact his parents’ application if he applies for the 3 of them together? Or should his parents apply first and then his sister apply?

Is it always all or nothing when it comes to several people applying at one time? Like - could they approve his parents and not his sister, for example?

  4. Updating my actual date on letter (7/24 vs. 7/27 on email). We were able to get back in the country at ATL POE without too much hassle. Although the officer looked at hubby's extension letter and said "You've had this for almost a year and it still hasn't been approved?" as if it were our fault. I told him it had actually been approved while we were gone but the card was waiting for us at home and I could show him the approval email if he wanted, but he didn't ask for it. They drive me crazy! Glad we are good for 10 years! The new gc is pretty and a lot different!

  5. I knew this would happen! Leave the country 7/26, receive an email 7/27 that hubby's gc production was ordered 7/27. Just got 1 email so far, and no cell svc for text messages. It will be interesting to see how many I get once we land in the US!

So glad we didn't have the hassle of an interview. We are going to print out the emails we receive just in case we are given trouble at Customs, but I honestly don't expect any. In the meantime, we are going to enjoy our vacation

    Please update us, thanks!

  6. True. True. It was pretty funny after the initial disappointment went away. I'm just so anxious for the approval before we move.. One of these days!

I hear ya...getting to that anxious feeling now, especially since some with NOA dates after ours are being approved and we leave for our trip on the 26th. I'm not really expecting having it in hand before we go but there's still a slight possibility that may happen. We're just crossing our fingers we won't have trouble getting back in with the expired GC & the extension letter.

    How long til you move?

  7. that's great Becca. I hope you guys hear something soon from them..

As for us, I am contemplating if I should apply for my mom's tourist visa so she could be here with us for my graduation from Nursing school, or just wait for my citizenship and not take the change of getting denied from USEM. So far we are leaning more to the latter. I will be submitting my N-400 application in August so I guess, I am not stressing so much with this ROC.

But I hope we get the approvals coming in! So far, we're hearing good news.

Do you really think your mom's tourist visa app will be helped if you are a citizen? We would like to get my hubby's family here for our 5 year anniversary party (so we've got a little under 2 years) but we're scared of losing the money in the visa app if they get denied.

  8. From my individual experience, I concluded that person behind the counter processing your documents has a lot to do with success of getting the driver's license.

    Best luck!

I agree! It seems that way with a lot of processes related to immigration. We are nervous for my in-laws to apply for a tourist visa to come visit because we know it depends on the mood of whoever is working at the consulate as to whether or not they will be approved, even though they have all the proof they need that they will not stay here. Maybe eventually everyone will get up the nerve to apply and they can come visit!

I haven't checked in in a while because I had a feeling there was no movement in VSC, and I was right :-/ Congrats to all those at CSC who have gotten approvals already, and thanks AngelinaBlack for the chart - good to know there is some kind of trend that may be affecting our delays. Hopefully all possibilities of snow & most major holidays are over now so VSC can get their butts to work! I would love to be a fly on the wall just seeing what exactly goes on there, how many people are asleep slumped over their desks or how many files haven fallen behind desks & file cabinets just "waiting" for approval.

Again, I am just thankful that we are together as a family during this process and that there is an end in sight!

  9. Hi guys,

It's strange being back on VJ after 2 years but here we are. I have been browsing since we filed the I-751 on October 23rd but now I am posting because I would like your input on something. It seems we have a similar timeline to most of you: NOA 1 11/4/11, biometrics 12/14/11... but throughout this period I haven't been able to get my case status at the USCIS website. It doesn't recognize my receipt number. Have they lost my case? It's been a few months, you would think they have had time to input this information.

    Thoughts? :)

I have the same question as N M - which number are you using? It will only recognize the one from the Biometrics letter.

Our year is going well, new baby is great and I just started back at work a week ago :/ It's bittersweet - I would rather be with my baby but it is nice to be back into an established routine again; it helps me accomplish more. As far as job searching, I do recommend education - partially because you get to work with a new group of students every year (usually) so it makes it slighly less monotonous. This is my 6th year teaching and it's nice to have a beginning and end to each school year. It's fun to count down until summer with the students :)

  10. I actually have the same question! My guess was, from how it was worded in the NOA1, that it's extended from the conditional GC expiration date. Either way I'm hoping we're not still waiting in either October or January!

I was wondering the same thing, but when we went to the DMV they put my husband's expiry date on his DL as one year from the letter, not the GC, which stinks because we will have to make that sure that doesn't expire! Either way, I'm not sure the lady knew 100% or if she just assumed it went by the date of the letter.

  11. I agree...it's in the back of our minds but nothing like waiting for K-1 or AOS!

On a positive note, the Processing time for VSC is back to 6 months. Now whether or not we actually see them catch up will be another thing, but at least we can hope that this will soon be over for TEN LONG YEARS (or longer if you file for citizenship in the next year or so)

Who is planning on filing for citizenship?

  12. We did Josue's biometrics appointment yesterday. What a waste of 5 hours in the car! His appointment was at 12, we got there at 11:20 and were out by 11:40. They made me sit in a separate room but let him come out to ask me a question about the form he had to fill out. Now we just wait, wait, wait. In the meantime, I'm nesting like crazy but I think I finally have the baby's room finished!

  13. I guess I just really have to wait and just go with the flow.

That's the best advice anyone can give, unfortunately. I know I was frustrated too and our bio letter came one or two days before the 30 day mark where I could have called. This whole process is a huge waiting game and we can just be thankful that we are together with our SO this time around instead of waiting in separate countries!
