-then yesterday i saw online that they said they couldn't deliver the receip.
i meant receipt
lol
How did you find out about them forwarding it to CSC on 08/07? Did you find this out after the fact? I can't see any way that I will be able to determine anything about my case until I get a receipt number... I will definitely be calling them on Monday (and everyday until I can view my case on my own; the lower the level of customer service they provide me, the more determined I will become (sort of bureaucratic Hulk

really then we'll say monday or tuesday before either of our checks get cashed
Gonna be one freakin' long weekend. Maybe I should FedEx something somewhere to give me something else to obsess on (worked wonders last weekend).
-
they won't tell me anything they just keep saying wait for a receipt or cancelled check
UURRGGHH!! but time will tell i'll give them some time
but once i get the receipt number
its SPEED DIAL TIME!!
I would give up, but Finn got hers by phone. So, I am assuming there must be a few of them willing to help out.

PS. I mailed my water bill on 08/25 by regular mail to a company in Dallas TX (I am in Washington State). That canceled check DID appear in my account today. You are probably right, then, that the CSC will be the entity that actually cashes them.

From what I have seen (Finn's experience and other people's timelines) it looks about 5 to 7 days for the checks to clear normally. I will also call back on Monday to see if I have better luck on Customer Service Representative selection.

Hey VJ after some mix up with my online postal label
my I-130 was finally delivered on 08/26/2009
anyone doing USCIS IN AUGUST??
Hi MsSheka, there are a few of us. Finn will be checking in soon, I am sure. I FedExed mine on 08/21, it was delivered 08/24, still no canceled checks. I just called them and they wouldn't (she said couldn't, but I believe wouldn't is the better choice of words) tell me anything and only to contact them again if I hadn't received anything within 30 days of delivery (30 days?? unbelievable!) If I wasn't fairly certain that I will see the canceled checks before then, I know for a fact I would explode before I ever made it 30 days with this uncertainty looming over me. Nonetheless, 09/23 on the calendar now has a big red X on it.

Small world indeed I have a brother in law who works in Seremsa. Our marriage was the first between an American and Peruvian in Agustino. It was kinda funny because they brought in photographers to take pictures of the wedding for their records.
At first, I thought that it was just my ignorance revealing itself, but my wife hasn't heard of Seremsa either. What is that?
I don't think we were the first North-South couple in Jesus Maria, but we were out of the norm, for sure.

And it will depend on what terminal you will have to get to... I simply loathe LAX!

I just want my checks to clear

We got married in El Agustino and had RENIEC legalize our marriage and his birth certificates (birth certificate from Chiclayo) and yes it was a nightmare. We had to go there 3 times to get everything right!! They kept making mistakes on our documents. We got everything translated into english for a small fee. Let me give you a heads up. When you get to the NVC send copies of your wife's birth certificate and marriage certificate. If you send originals then the embassy will keep them!! I sent originals because I heard that you could get them back if you asked. It's not the case and now we don't have an original birth or marriage certificate! Let me know if you have any more Peru specific problems!
Thanks guys. I am planning on getting fresh birth cert (certified copy from municipality - my wife was born in Ayabaca but it was registered in Siicha... luckily much of her family is still up in Sullana, so we will be able to get these) and fresh marriage cert (from Jesus Maria). Regardless of what the embassy is telling us, I will provide RENIEC certification of both (we spent all day in RENIEC registering the marriage cert, so might as well use it), especially since we will have to go and get the cert for her birth certificate anyway. My step-son's birth certificate (Miraflores) says RENIEC right on it, so I assume that it is good to go, but since we have to go wait all day at the RENIEC anyway, might as well take it along for the trip. I have plenty of "originals" (i.e. certified copies from the entity where they are registered), so if they don't give 'em back, no biggie. I have most of the stuff translated into English now, and can get fresh "originals" from the translator on short notice (agency is just up in Seattle), but I don't think I need translations for that stage (everything is either in Spanish or English).

Oh! And my wife works in El Agustino (Sedapal - La Tarjea)! Small world.

Go create an account here (thanks, Finn):
https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/logon.do
Then add your cases to that account and you should be able to follow along (for me this is still theoretical, as my checks haven't even cleared yet).

Greetings,
I am a US citizen living in the US right now. My wife is a foreign citizen living in a foreign country (S. Korea). We got married about a month ago in Korea and we are in the midst of form I-130.
I have started working a week ago and I need to fill in my W-4 form and send it back to them. As I understand correctly, I should check "single" in the W-4 form due to my wife being a nonresident alien. However, is this necessarily the case? How should I go about this so that I(we) can maximize our earnings? She'll be coming to US in about 3 months. Thanks!
It is your W-4 and should be filled out as need be. You are married, therefore you should put that on your form, it has nothing to do with your wife just you. When it comes time to file your taxes should she still not be with you you can file for a tax ID number for your wife so that you may claim her on your taxes.
^ Except on the W-4 form, this is what it says. Question 3.
__________________________
Choose: Single; Married; Married but withhold at higher Single rate
Note: If married, but legally separated, or spouse is a nonresident alien, check the "Single" box.
__________________________
I'm worried about the incurred penalty in tax that I would need to pay from not choosing Single.
Get IRS Pub 519 and determine if, in your circumstances, you can/have to/can't/etc designate her as "resident" or not.

Just looked at your timeline. Man, that was a long time. Congrats it finally came through!! I am truly happy for you.

Well, I got a response from the consulate:
Thank you for your message. Yes, indeed. Documents from Lima do not need to be certified by RENIEC.Of course, no mention of whether they will update the Spanish-language page to indicate this as well. I can only hope they will.

My I-130s were just delivered according to FedEx!! Let the games begin!

All of my and my husbands documents were from Iquitos.
We had to have the birth and marriage certificates legalized at RENEIC. Yes, it is more than a nightmare!!!
Make sure the signatures are good and the correct person is signing. I'd go to the municipality and tell them it is for RENEIC. It is the embassy that requires the RENEIC. So that is what I sent to the NVC for my husband. My step-daughter's papers never went through NVC, but the embassy said they had to be RENEICed. For the 17 soles I'd do it just to be sure.
Thanks. Did you send the RENIEC document to USCIS with your I-130 packet? Or did you just send it to NVC as part of that process?

Hey any Peruvians who have gone through this...
Did you send in the RENIEC registration with your I-130? The embassy website's page in Spanish says that you have to have RENIEC certification for all docs (even Lima), while the page in English states that this requirement is only for docs outside Lima. (I sent an email to the consulate asking them to clarify this on their website... probably never hear from them, but will be pleasantly surprised if I do.)
My stepson's birth certificate (from municipality of Miraflores (in Lima for you non-Peruvians playing along at home)) states that it is from RENIEC, but our marriage certificate (from the municipality of Jesus Maria (also in Lima)) does not state this. We did get the certificate registered at RENIEC (what a nightmare!!) and I have that document with me. When choosing which to send to USCIS (and before looking at the embassy website) I went with the certificate as it has our signatures on it. The RENIEC doc has places for signatures, but we were instructed by RENIEC not to sign... so it appeared to me that that one would appear fishier to the USCIS folks... now, of course, after having sent off my I-130 packet, I have begun to second guess myself.
I was having my wife's birth certificate translated to have for whatever comes up when she is here, so I sent the RENIEC doc off to be translated too. That way, if I get an RFE for this I can fire it right off.
I just thought I would throw this out to see if any others from Peru had gone through this and what your experiences were.
Okay back to worrying, second guessing and obsessing over my FedEx tracking number (I expect to hear fanfare tomorrow morning when it is delivered to the LockBox).

Since more than 24 hours have gone by, could a moderator do me the favor of moving this to the progress sub-forum. Thanks a bunch.

Am I a new friend??!!!! Well, they probably won't get your fedex package until Monday, unless they actually work weekends (but gov't employees don't usually do that! In fact, today is Federal Friday!)...
I did my timeline too, because I couldn't add anymore to my signature block or whatever it's called!
I specifically thought of you, Finn, since I didn't see you over in the progress sub-forum. But there are others who I feel connected to and didn't see any of them either.

Howdy all (and especially my fellow August filers). I sent off my FedEx package with my wife and stepson's I-130 packets. I am ecstatic that I have a FedEx number to obsess about over the weekend.
I am off to update my timelines. If some moderator-y type person could leave this thread here for a bit and then move it over to the progress sub-forum in a day or two, I would appreciate it. I didn't post it there, because I was afraid I might lose track of some of my new friends.

Thanks y'all. My docs are now neatly ordered and will go in one package. Anything you say past this point will be too late, because I am heading out the door
Bye. See everyone on the flip-side.
