  1. There is a BBQ restaurant here in Houston that used to give $2 bills, Kennedy 50 cent coins, and Eisenhower $1 coins in change as a gimmick. I thought it was kind of cute.

All these odd-ball denominations of money never really caught on with the general public. I still have a stack of crisp new $2 bills from the BBQ restaurant.

Are you talking about The Mucky Duck? I've got one from there!

  2. Look around on the internet, you can find a site selling "I park like an idiot" bumper stickers... oh man, how I've wished I had some of those things on more than one occasion.

  3. Ahhh... Joe Arpaio, most people love him or hate him. But I have to admit seeing inmates in pink underwear was sorta amusing.

I love him. Jail shouldn't be a nice environment.

Word up to that! Do you know that the inmates get to have sex with each other in the shower, like ALL the time? I want to go to jail, it's f*cking cushy!

  4. Sorry to hear about this 'Liss. (I know I'm late to find out). It really sucks. For what it's worth, I do believe that to make it through such trying times bodes well for your future relationship, and in fact will make it MUCH stronger. Good luck.

  5. Okay, I didn't read this thread at all, so if someone already covered this then sorry to repeat.

Going on the title to this thread: Hell yeah they have a right to be upset. Power to them for protesting! This is a marginilized group which is subject to all manner of divadvantage and abuse, and I for one am happy to see them sticking up for themselves! Why should they be fired, when their employers probably knew they were illegal in the first place? Don't the employers want them to have equal rights?

  6. Yeah, this really sucks. Unfortunately this country hasn't sufficiently evolved in the compassion/common sense/humanist departments to allow people to simply live their own peaceful loving lives. On the bright side, there are other countries in this world that do. Not that it does much good if you want/need to live here, but we have a friend that lives in Wales on a "Partner visa".

I've heard people make the lame argument that it would increase fraud, and honestly it would... but not proportionally!!! I think that these people just doubt the sincerity of any homosexual relationship. Of course their petitions would be scrutinized just as closely by CIS (actually moreso due to personal homophobic attitudes bound to exist in certain officers).

Does this country really need fewer loving marriages? Oh wait, the sanctity of div- er marriage must be protected! chopf*cks

  8. Satisfied vegan here...

#1- don't be afraid to experiment in the kitchen. Take non-veg recipes and substitute for the meat. There are a ton of sub's out there, but I find that the simplest are best. ie, we don't buy the expensive veggie-burgers, sausages etc, but just tofu and occasionally textured veg. protein. My wife makes a kick@ss OMELETTE for me by blending tofu and soymilk, and mixing with shredded carrots, garlic/onions, and a little flour and soy sauce. Fry it up. Serve with rice.

Eating out can be difficult, though less so if you eat dairy. While sub shops and taco bell can give you some limited choices, generally (but not always!) better places will be able to make you something. If you are suspicious of their sincerity, tell them you are alergic! Just a little fib, but you can be sure they won't want to risk the fish sauce! Indian is my favorite, as well as pita-places. Good luck, and good eatin' to you! Anyone can feel free to PM me for/with good vegan recipes!

  10. ####### did people think they were getting, anyway??? I for one am happy to see the "unholy alliance" of bible thumpers and business criminals start to crack apart. Not just because it weakens the Republican AntiChrist war machine, (that's a bonus), but because I hope it will lead to more parties (ahem, POLITICAL parties!). I would like to see the Dem party split too (how much weaker could they BE?). We need more choices people. Seriously, how can two parties really stand for anything when they have to cut every issue down the middle to play half the population against the other?

  11. I am continually distressed that people seem to be so ready to jump on any bit of information that seems to confirm their preconception that all Muslims are bloodthirsty terrorists. "SEE, SEE!? I told you they hate us all and want us dead!" Give it up already. If anything this article should have an opposite effect in that it is MUSLIM students who are objecting to even reading ABOUT this stuff. As someone already mentioned another book that includes some pretty horrible stuff...

  12. UK has partner visa's. A friend of ours from Thailand lives with his boyfriend in Wales. It would be really nice if the US would follow suit. I would say that it is no more (or less) open to fraud than current visas.
