I was going to post my oath recap but remember reading this one from Safroot and mine was exactly the same (we both had our oaths in Oakland, CA.
The same entertainer was back welcoming the to-be-american-citizens in 5 or 6 different languages (he spoke a couple of sentences in each language). I arrived a little late so I missed the part where he introduced himself, so I have no clue who that guy was.
We had someone from the voting registration, US passport and a keynote speaker. They were all very brief but with meaningful words.
I did hear that yesterday there were 1,114 people taking the pledge from 99 countries.
In the beginning of this process I sort of wished I had my oath right after the interview, just to be done with. But I am so glad I experienced the beautiful ceremony.
I decided not to apply for my passport right then and there because I wanted to make some copies first, and because it was a madhouse with so many people trying to deliver the application. Then I drove back to my town, took some copies of the certificate and headed to the Post Office to apply for the passport. Little I knew that in my city (as in many others), you can only apply for a passport by appointment, and the next available one is only in 3 weeks!!!! I need to apply ASAP. So I am now going to drive to another city where they accept walk-ins.
Check at your local post office to see if they require appointments and what is the timeframe. If it is too long, and if you have an iPhone, or a good phone/camera, I would suggest snapping a picture of your certificate and just apply right after the ceremony. You need to mail the original certificate with it.
I just want to take the chance and thank ALL OF YOU! This has been an incredible journey and I am glad I found the VJers to help me walk through it. Although I won't be checking in here so often anymore, feel free to send a msg directly and I will do my best to respond and help you all.
Good luck to all of you who are still in your journeys. It demands patience, but the end result is really good.
Congratulations NycBra, i'm soo happy for you. i'm sorry for not getting back to you, i was in Florida for a vacation for a week and i just got back to San Francisco. best of luck and i'm glad all is good with you!!!!!!!

Hi,
this is from my own experience. if you want you can get your passport the same day with the certificate in hand, all you need to do is to present an airline ticket showing that you are traveling within 14 days of the appointment. what i recommend is once you know your Oath date, call and make an appointment at your local passport agency for the next day after your oath day. then book a ticket like for the day after or 2 days later and you will get your passport the same day or next day. usually if you apply for it at 9 am, you will get it at 12 pm. in my case i had my Oath on 3/23 then i made an appointment at the passport agency for 3/24 at 9am and i booked a ticket for 04/01 to Canada to visit my friends. i received the passport on 3/25. so it's def possible to get your passport in 3 HRS but make sure to follow the instructions.

Alright, Everyone
so, this probably will be the last update on my case :-). i registered to vote yesterday and updated my information at the social security office.
Today i had an appointment ,that i scheduled 2 weeks ago at the San Francisco Passport Agency, at 9 am. i arrived there like 8:45, went through security and was the first to be called to the window
, i submitted my application, a proof that i'm traveling within 14 days abroad, my ID, a copy of mu ID, paid the fees and of course my Naturalization Certificate, then they told to to come back tomorrow to pick up the Passport and my Certificate. so this is it, tomorrow, god willing, i go get my passport and off to traveling and having fun :-)best of luck to you all

Hi all
First of all i would like to thank everyone for their information, support and help. this is really what it comes down to, the day of the OAth Ceremony, and i couldn't have asked for a better place or a better ceremony.
My appointment for the Oath was at 9:00 Am and i arrived around 8:30, i entered the theater where the ceremony was held, surprisingly i didn't have to go through security or any of that. the gentleman at the door took my letter and my green card. then i went to my designated section and seat inside the theatre.
the Ceremony started at around 9:15 with a great speaker who broke down everything very easy plus he was a great entertainer as he welcomed all of us citizens in 8 different language and he was actually good, he spoke each language for a good minute or two :-). he spoke French, Cantonese, Russian, Spanish, Hindu, Tagalog and German fluently amazing. i thought that was a unique experience and i don't think this happens at other ceremonies. there was actually 1000 of us from 95 different countries
then we watched couple of videos, guest speakers about elections and applying for the passport. then we did the Oath and Pledge of Allegiance. at the end of the ceremony we were handed out certificates of citizenship and that was it :-) great experience and this is the happiest day " I'm a Proud American Citizen" .
Tomorrow i got apply for my Passport and hopefully i will get it on the same day. i will update you on that tomorrow.

I have my Oath Ceremony on Wednesday 03/23/11. i was just looking at the Oath letter and it states to bring all immigration documents that i might have with me to the Ceremony?!!! you know at the bottom of the letter where they check the things that you must bring to the ceremony like Green card, the letter all of that

OK here is my turn to share my interview experience at Houston Office. I had 3 or 4 interviews since i came to the states all of them work related but this 1 was the easiest i ever had.
The officer was so nice, she asked me to stand up raise my right hand and put me under oath , the i sat down she verified the information in my n400 but very quickly and she did not go over all of them she asked me about the situation in Egypt then showed me a picture on papyrus paper she got from there. The officer was so nice. She had a medical condition and the asked me about it , we discussed her treatment options ,she was so glad about me trying to help her.
Then she said let us go over the civics test she asked 6 questions:
1- The name of National Anthem.
2- ocean in west coast
3- The 13 flag stripes
4- 9/11 events
5- how old citizens can vote for president
6- Rule of law
She had me read How many senators do we have?
And she asked me to write We have one hundred senators.
She gave me a paper stating that i came and was approved, then asked me to wait outside to get my ceremony letter.
30 minutes later i got it for March 23.

so I FINALLY got all my police clearance records after a month of submitting all the requests.
So, now that I have done the job that USCIS should have done with my $80 biometrics fee, I just submitted all documents to the citizenship branch.
I am hoping (more like praying) that they send my oath letter/schedule soon....
and for those who are wondering.... there was no records of any crimes or citations from all cities I have lived since 2007.
Hey safroot, I was hoping we would "meet" during the oath ceremony but I don't think I will get my schedule for March. I am hoping I will be scheduled for April. Fingers crossed!
There you go, i'm glad you got everything worked out and i hope they will approve your case right away once they see that. yea i know it's close but you never know, you might be the last one they schedule for that March 23rd appointment, if not then there is one on April 13th, i'm sure it will be no later than that.

My interview letter finally came in 2-days ago!! 3-8. My interview has been scheduled for the 4-13. I had about given up hope since it was so far behind.
I noticed a few people are having their oaths on the same date as the interview; is that the norm?
Thanks for keeping up with the updates, Safroot!! That's a ton of work and I for one appreciate it, as it gives an idea on how things are flowing.
Good for you Jso, i'm glad you finally got the letter. again i noticed that it really all depends on your situation and how fast the local office is processing applications. so get prepared and make sure you have everything on you and as far as the Oath, i would say try and look for other applicants from Portland, OR and see if the office offers a same day Oath because that's definitely not the norm, only few offices offer that same day Oath.

I am here still waiting for my background check from the police departments of all cities I've lived. It's what it is pending after I did the interview and passed the test. They couldn't process my fingerprints and now I have to pay extra to do their job. Oh well, waiting, waiting, waiting...
