  1. Hi Everyone!

For those of you who remember me I want to update you all on life with my Jamaican husband. I also have a question to ask you...

Well, things are great. Our relationship has grown to a real partnership since I gave birth to our son on December 30th. It has been a dream come true for me to have my family together.

He is so wonderful. He is a doting and loving father, he tells me I am beautiful and that he loves me every day, he keeps our house clean, and he helps my parents with whatever project they need help with happily. (My entire family loves him!)

The adjustment for Neil has been pretty smooth considering. Whenever I get annoyed with him I remind myself how much better he is handling this than I would if I were in his situation. He has no friends of his own and is stuck at home watching our baby while I go to work. All in all he is handling this well and is patiently waiting for his chance to work.

The hardest part for him has been the weather. He is so cold and miserable that he often doesn't want to go outside, where as before in Jamaica he spent most of his time outside. Because of this we are planning on moving to New Orleans before next winter.

The stomach problems he was experiencing kept getting worse. I finally added him to my insurance when I could, and a blood test revealed an antibody to a stomach bacteria. A month long course of two kinds of antibiotic cleared it up, and now he is happily munching away on whatever kind of junk he can get his hands on. We cook Jamaican food at home frequently, though.

There is the occasional bump in the road that comes when two people are truly getting to know each other. They are slight and we work them out.

We filed for his AOS on January 23rd and we are waiting for his EAD and advanced parole. We are planning on going home to Jamaica in about two months so his family can meet our son, and we plan on bringing his other 3year old son back with us.

So my question is...what do we need to do to get things in order to bring his son back?

  2. As many of the yardies here know, my SO moved here finally two weeks ago. We were recently married and are incredibly happy, except for one thing...he has been having terrible stomach problems since moving here, and this morning it has taken a turn for the worse with him actually vomiting...

He has been having on and off mild to severe stomach cramps accompanied by alternating constipation and diarrhea...his symptoms get worse at night. We have been eating the same things so I know it isn't food poisoning.

    We have tried:

    cutting out dairy

    no caffeine or alcohol

    aloe vera juice

    alka seltzer

pill form laxatives(these help end the constipation, but new symptoms pop up)

    ginger tea

and as of yesterday I bought him probiotic pills for IBS sufferers...they are supposed to take a week to work. I am also trying to feed him mostly what he is used to eating in Jamaica and I am letting him do most of the cooking for that reason.

I don't have health insurance for him yet. Is it possible that this is all just stress related...or maybe there is some bacteria here in food that he isn't used to?

Any advice or insight would be very appreciated

  3. Hi Ladies!

Well, Neil is adjusting very well so far, and has a child-like interest in everything he sees. We are having the best, most romantic time of our lives and are enjoying the last few weeks before the baby is born and our twosome becomes a threesome..honestly, it is better than I imagined.

some hard adjustments so far have been his digestion...everything seems to upset his stomach. I think it is the combination of the stress of a new environment as well as strange food.

    Also he is cold...

He loves "on demand" cable though!

We are getting married Thursday! Can't wait to be his wife!

Oh, and I have noticed his bath water is dirty too...he took four baths a day in Jamaica so this is weird...I think the dryer climate is just causing him to lose a layer or two of skin cells...just a theory

  4. Shaunsgal - I was wondering about you today, any news?

Still no news from this front. I figure I might have to Jamaica next year (I am seriously considering it)! I email the embassy at least once every other day. The last message I received said that they have the Medical and are processing it and will call my SO when it's done.

I'm so sorry...I can imagine your frustration!

  5. The airpak website doesn't work for me? I enter the data (after i click "Visa Tracking") and click search and nothing happens. Anyone having that problem?

Same thing happened to me...enter the data in and be careful not to click anywhere on the page (outside of the boxes) and then hit return...then it should work. It is super fussy

  6. The website says Neil should get his visa today, but I guess his passport is still being processed at the embassy. I am being the most impatient ever right now...and I still have this little fear that it was all too good to be true and that he wont actually get the visa!

Has anyone ever heard of anyone getting denied after getting approved at the embassy?

  7. Thanks so much to everyone here on this sight. We wouldn't have made it without your help and advice.

The only hassles we encountered were not having some bar code on one of the forms (I still don't understand what that mean woman was going on about) and not paying the $131 visa fee ahead of time...but all we got for those things is chewed out. They didn't look at ANY of our proof of relationship...not one picture or phone bill or anything. They just checked to make sure all of our documents were there and asked us two questions:

    1. How long have you known each other? (a year and two months)

    2. How many times have I visited Neil in Jamaica? (six)

I guess my eight months pregnant belly was proof enough!

CONGRATULATIONS! And I second the sentiment about the great help and support this thread is! Best Wishes.

Thanks, Shaunsgal. I know you are going crazy right now, but I am sure you will hear something by the end of the week. You know how the embassy is...slooowwww

  8. Question for the mommies, or anyone that may know... What do you give a baby that has thrush in her mouth?

Boy I don't know Portland. Have you taken them to the doctor? Hopefully someone else will be helpful.

Yeah you have to go to the doctor to get an antifungal medication that is safe for inside the baby's mouth. There is no nonprescription medicine for it I don't think.

  9. Does anyone know...when my SO gets his visa do the give him the "mysterious brown envelope" I keep reading about in the POE reviews? I thought they would give him that at the embassy

No they keep it an all that is in it.

oops sorry, I thought you meant does he keep it at POE. He gets it from airpak, and the POE takes it and keeps it.

Ok thanks. Thats what i thought. We left the embassy so fast though in a euphoric haze...I was afraid we might have missed something...

  10. Question for you ladies, when you finally get a chance to check in....Does your SO plan on becoming a US citizen, or do they just want to become a LPR? If they don't want to be a US Citizen, what do you think/how do you feel about that, and why?

Neil just wants to be with me and the baby...He has a lot of pride in being Jamaican. He wants our son to be a dual citizen. I haven't asked him, but I am sure he has no desire or push to be an American citizen (especially if he would have to give up his Jamaican citizenship). I am perfectly fine with this...

  11. Hello! Congrats to you! Please remember all of us still waiting!

I wont! Having been through it now I would say my advice is to make sure all of your papers are in order and for the petitioner to go to the interview. If those two things are done you will be good...
