  1. My husband's conditional greencard expires in four days. We already filed the I-751 and received the NOA stating it is extended for a year but my question is this: He is currently looking for work and I am worried that an employer might not be comfortable hiring somebody with an expired green card...anybody have experience with this?

The letter is kind of vague...I thought it would say something like "this letter allows work and travel until...blah blah blah"

And what about traveling? I can just see the immigration people in Jamaica not letting him on the plane because his greencard is expired!

  2. Either of the parents can submit the form and accompany the minor to the interview. The drawback is that it will be harder for the US resident as his intention is sure to be questioned.

ok...I wondered about that, but we could have brought him to the US along with the K1 and didn't because the mother was understandably not willing to part with her son..

I guess they might worry that my husband is trying to steal him away from the mother?

  3. Hi...some advice, please!

I am a US citizen married to a Jamaican citizen, and we want to bring his son (five years old) to the US on a visitor visa for his school break. We are in Jamaica right now on a long vacation.

so my question is, can my husband file the DS-160 or does his mother have to do it? I am thinking since my husband is technically a US resident right now it might have to be his mom that does it and that goes to the interview...

    any advice would help!

    Thanks

  4. yes you could try the senator thing...Mine contacted the embassy on my behalf in order to get an interview before our baby was born so he could be here for the birth...worth a try...but hard to say since you don't know what is going on.

I hope the best...sounds bad but remember it wasn't an outright denial...there is still hope

  5. Did your doctor say its ok for the baby to travel at 6 weeks? I wanted to take my baby when he/she will be 2 months...

Yes but my doctor wanted to make sure the baby has his shots...they are normally given at 2 months but dr is giving them at six weeks. As long as baby is healthy should be ok. Also, if you are breast feeding its better...baby is less likely to get sick.

  6. we are good, thanks. Just had a baby boy (Maximilian) Oct 26th. Going back to Jamaica dec 7th.

BTW Mrs tee my husband and I had to have an aos interview. I dont know why, but it was easy and took five minutes. They made him get a vericella vaccine. Anyway, anybody know if you definitely have to go to a biometrics for removal of conditions?

Ugh, I'm sorry mrs tee, I should have read back more thoroughly...when I wrote this I thought you hadn't gone to the interview yet...I was trying to reassure you that it wasn't going to be a big deal...well, no matter, you are getting your green card! That is great

  7. Thanks JaP!

Congrats Acrow!! Wow lil mister is going to get to know JA real quick. Will you be staying for a while again? Must be so nice to leave the winter weather behind and spend your time in paradise.

OneLove-Thanks! Can't wait to hear when you have baby girl. Hope you continue to feel well and have a smooth delivery.

Yes this time I don't even have a return ticket!

  8. Hi Acrow, how are things? That story is funny as hell  That's how I was yesterday... Den told the young lady...I'm calling mi wife right now :rofl::rofl:

  9. I'm so happy too JAP...he had no problems once he landed on U.S. soil...they only gave him problems in JA...smh!

My husband had trouble with AP in Ja also, but none in the US. He called me and told me they wouldn't let him through...I freaked out and demanded to speak to the person who denied him...he said the signitures on the form didn't match...I said the other sig is from the "authorizing officer" YOU IDIOT now let my husband pass! Needless to say they let him go...

ha ha I was so mad, and I never lose my temper!

  10. It may work on the east coast but out here in the pacific NW...it nah work

Tammy I have the same concerns as you do and have thought of sending a prepaid phone down when I mail the last bunch of papers via fed x this week for our interview next week. My concerns with that are #1-will he get charged duty fee's for it & #2 will it get crushed because it will be in one of those mailing envelopes....hmmm

Oh and BTW, I sent you a message re linking up since both our guys are from JA and here in Portland there aren't many....Let me know what you think  Acrow doesn't have time for mi,...she too busy traveling and living the life in JAMAICA with hubby and babies :rofl:

I'm sorry Jamerican! I meant to post back, but I forgot...I have been busy...gave birth on Tuesday! But yeah, am planning on returning to Jamaica Dec 8th, so I'm not here long. I was gonna tell you that I was gonna try to go to Xactchange hifi at Slabtown at the end of November. I know its not your favorite reggae night, but I used to bartend it when it was at Ringlers and I know the DJ's and am friends with the bartender that works it and I wanted to say hi. Maybe you all can come by? I wont be there long as I will be breastfeeding a newborn...but it should be fun!!!

    sorry to hijack the topic!

  11. OK, this has nothing to do with the original topic, per se but...

I have heard that LPRs are required to carry the GC with them at all times but as others have mentioned, it is very expensive if it is lost. This got me to thinking... Isn't a newly issued RealID-compliant driver's license/state ID sufficient now to prove legal presence in the US? After all they won't issue it with an expiration date past your GC/visa/etc. and you need to jump through more hoops than ever to prove your identity before you can get one.

This is interesting...my sister-in-law overstayed her B1 visa and is now here illegally...she has a state issued ID that is valid. She is planning on flying domestically soon using only this ID...I told her it was a risk but she would probably be ok...now I am not sure!

Would kind of serve her right...I told her time and time again to not overstay, and we even offered to pay for her ticket home!

  12. THE United States will be increasing visa fees worldwide, including Jamaica, effective Friday June 4.

All persons whose interviews fall on or after that date must pay the new fees. Applicants with interviews scheduled for June 4 and who have already paid according to the old fee schedule must now return to NCB to pay the difference for their applications to be processed.

Under the new fees petition-based visas cost more than non-petition based visas.

    New fee scehdule:

    Non-petition-based visas:

    Visitor (B1/B2) US$140

    Crewmember (C1/D) US$140

    Student visas (F1 and M1) US$140

    Treaty Trader/Investor (E1 or E2) US$390

    Petition-based visas:

    Temporary skilled workers (H-1B) US$150

    Temporary seasonal workers (H-2B) US$150

    Intra-company transferees (L1) US$150

    Performers (O and P) US$150

    Fiancé-based visas (K) US$350

A release from the US Embassy said that that the increased fees were necessary, "to better reflect the actual cost of providing services". It said that until now only 94 per cent of costs were recovered by visa fees, with the monthly US$5.4 million shortfall being borne by the US taxpayer

Although the treaty trader (E1) and treaty investor (E2) visa classes are not petition-based, they will now be set at US$390 to reflect the real cost of processing document-intensive visa categories.

I can't find the information now, but when I was looking to move to JA, I found somewhere that said if you are married to a Jamaican citizen you can have one shipment duty free.

Key is that you ship from yourself in the states, to yourself in JA so it's not considered a gift..

I will try to look tomorrow for more info...

wonder if mi can fit in one barrel??

that would be awesome. Why did you decide not to move?

  14. Pack... pay to ship...$$$....pay to clear at custom in Jamaica...$$$$$$.

Check with any caribbean/mexican/store in your area, they will have information on who to use to ship with. They will probably sell the barrels aswell.

Be prepare to pay $$$ to clear at custom in Jamaica.

It will probably take about 4 weeks to arrive in Jamaica.

Thanks...I'm trying to decide if it is really worth it...
