  1. DanielParul/Others:

I am in a similar situation as Karri. K1 visa. I was approved on Dec 28 and did get a letter from NVC a week ago. I got my case number from NVC and they did inform me when my file left for the Mumbai Consulate (Jan 6). I believe the Mumbai Consulate received my file on Jan 10 (I was tracking DHL assuming that packet was mine ). In any case, how do you know if the Consulate received your file ? Do you call/email them and are they responsive. My fiancee is still waiting to receive Packet 3.

In the meantime, I have looked at their website and downloaded pkt 3. Do you check all items on the checklist and fill out the applicant statement at the end. And send that back along with DS 230 Part I. Can DS 230 be legibly 'Hand Filled' or has to be typed ?

Also, saw an Applicant Readiness Form (DS-2001). Does that need to be sent in with the Pkt 3 ?

    Thanks,

  2. i do understand but my original question is:

what does it mean "obtain a police clearance from the District Police Office serving the applicant's place of residence"

for people living in Hyderabad what District should visit and get ?

I don't live in Hyderabad, so I couldn't tell you. If I were you, I would go to the local police station and they can tell you the District police station that would cover the local police station (falls under its jurisdiction). The District PS takes your application and gets in touch with the local PS. Next folks from the local PS come to your house to do their verification and report back (clear you so to speak) to the District PS that ultimately issues the PCC.

    Good luck.

  3. All:

Don't know if this is Consulate Specific, but for Packet 3, are we supposed to send the following back -

    1) DS-230 Part 1,

    2) K1 Pkt 3 checklist form

    3) DS - 2001 - Applicant Readiness Form

Am I missing anything above ?

My next next is re: DS-230 Part 1, Ques 22, which asks you to list all your employment for the last 10 years, has a following question at the end -

In what occupation do you intend to work in the United States ? My question is - how do you answer that question ?

Also, when you send back Pkt 3 checklist, Do You Check everything ?

    Can anyone help please ?

    Thanks,

  4. If you got your passport within past 6 months, you do not need PCC from passport office. If its more than 6 months, you need a PCC from passport office. Regardless, you need a PCC from police commissioner's (district police in other words) office.

I think Siyaram has it the other way, you need the PCC from the Regional Passport office regardless. You only need the PCC from the District PS if your passed was issued MORE than 6 months ago (at the time of visa application). Read the link below...

    http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/ivpolicecertificates.html

  5. For the PCC, my fiancee got one from the Regional Passport office. What about the other one. Does one need to get that from the local police station having jurisdiction over where you live ? or the District Police Station ? Can you just go to the local Police Station and get the clearance ?

    Thanks

  6. Dear VJers/Moderators:

I was looking through the Regional Discussion Boards and did not see one for INDIA. Where are people from India that are going through K1 posting post NOA2 ? I know there are a lot of us on VJ. Can I ask the moderating team to create one for INDIA please. If we all post info/experience specific to the US Consulates in India for the different steps we need to go through (PCC, Birth Certificates, Medical, etc), post approval, I think it would help. We could all also connect as we through our consulate interview process to help each other in the common cause.

    Thanks

  7. I had to remember that K1s and K3s aren't the only things that VSC and CSC are processing- perhaps they are working on those other visas. Also, their are tons- TONS- of people who never discovered VJ.

There is a publication on the website that states that they process an average of 30,000 applications every day. Isn't that amazing?

Thanks everyone. Appreciate it. Good luck to all that are waiting. Karri - will send my good luck your way. With the way things are moving at CSC, it looks though that you could have your approval in short order as well.

Anyone know what the next steps are for me ? How do I know when NVC received my app. Is there a number to call to check. Also, how do I know when the Consulate will receive my K1 app packet/NOA2. Do I need to contact them or they will get in touch with my fiancee (beneficiary)?

    Thanks

  8. Dear VJers:

My K1 petition at VSC was approved today  . Got an automated email from CRIS. Really excited  . My NOA1 date was Sep 12, 2008. Good news for all Aug/Sep filers. You all should see your approvals soon, too I hope.

Could not have gone through process without this community. My sincere and heartfelt thanks to all for your support and encouragement. Excited. Don't even know what the next steps are. The good news is still sinking in as I write this. Have updated my timeline.

    Cheers,

  10. Dear VSC Sep K1 filers:

Just shocked at not seeing any movement whatsoever in the K1 dates. Had seen Aug 15 in early December when I was about to travel to meet my fiancee and was hopeful that my NOA2 might come in by the end of December and here we are stuck at Aug 10 when CSC has steadily moved up to Aug 25 from early July in less than a month. Anyone know what is going on at VSC ??!!!??? :crying:

  11. Dear VJers:

I was looking at the I-134/Affidavit of Support form and there is a question of any prior affidavit of support forms submitted in the past.

I had filled out an I-134 form for my younger brother two years ago, a student at the time in Scotland and mailed it to him along with supporting documentation as he applied for his visitor visa in London. He came here on a visitor visa and then left to go back in less than 2 months even though his visa was good for a 6 month stay.

Here's my question ..Do I need to include this information on the form as I fill this out for my fiancee now. Not sure if it is relevant. Does it matter if I leave that blank/say none. Is there a record of all the I-134 forms you have submitted in the past.

    Thanks

  12. A "Certified Copy" of a complete or abbreviated divorce decree will suffice. Notarization not helpful. It needs a seal from the issuing authority. A copy secured from a lawyer may or may not have the seal. The seal is the key. Divorce decrees need no notarization. Notaries witness signatures. Unless you're planning to drag the judge in front of a notary.....

I supplied a simple "photocopy" of my decree, with no questions asked. Are you certain that "certified copy" is required?

This may be the demarcation point of past work history and so forth.

    [/size]

A photocopy is generally fine as long as the original docuement from which the copy was made bears the seal of the issuing authority. I supplied a photocopy of a certified copy but my wife had a certified copy available in case she was asked. There may be cases that are completed without the seal but an attorney can supply a copy that doesn't even bear the judge's signature. People need to make sure they provide something that can be verified as an actual legal decree. The seal is the best bet.

I don't get your "demarcation point" comment. To what do you refer?

    Fair enough pushbrk.

With respect to the demarcation comment, it is purely my supposition about former USG employment, and completely unfounded. Please disregard.

Thanks everyone for your inputs. Much appreciated. Another related question - think I did see a post on this recently. What about my (old) marriage certificate. I am already divorced from that marriage and can see needing a judgment of divorce, but my marriage certificate ? Packet 3/4 instructions say, need marriage certificate of the applicant. I guess, I am not the applicant but my fiancee is. My fiancee has never been married before. Do you guys think I need it and should take it to my fiancee ?

    Thanks a bunch.

  13. Dear VJ Folks:

I am making a trip to India next week to meet my fiancee. Trying to make the most out of my trip. Taking the entire K1 packet with me that I submitted and other documents with me that she can use come time for the interview.

Although, it may be a little too early (I do not have my NOA2 yet), I am planning to take the Affidavit of Support documents. Understand I need to have form I-134 notarized. What about my taxes/W2/bank statements/ etc. Do those need to be noratized ? Also, if I have my employment letter with salary/etc info, do I need the bank/401K/brokerage account statements? My income level should not be an issue as I am over the min poverty level but wondering if I need to have other financial supporting documents.

What about the divorce certificate. Read somewhere that I need 'original and notarized copy' of my divorce judgment. I have a copy that I got from my lawyer that I notarized. Does my fiancee need my 'original' divorce decree that I should leave with her. Do I need to get an original copy from the court house ?

Anything else I need to plan for and take with me? Anyone input/suggestions will be much appreciated.

    Thanks

  14. I was worried about it myself as I was getting my K1 packet ready. My digital camera showed the date when the picture was taken yet when I printed the pics, I did not see the date. Apparently, my camera did not have the feature when it came to printing. Go figure. I did go to Best Buy and used one of the printers there and that printer had the option to show the date and it successfully did.

But when I went to Sam's Club, I realized you can put any date you want and any where you want it. Long story short, it does not matter as you can easily fudge the date. The boarding pass, pass port stamps can prove the meeting took place in the last two years if that is what you are trying to prove by putting the date on the pictures. Pictures are secondary evidence for proof of meeting in the last 2 years. I would not worry if I were you...

    Good luck

  15. Not that it matters much, but I agree with Craigcam. What do you lose by sending it.. Nothing. You could either stand to gain (time) or it has no impact. At least, you will have your peace of mind by doing so.

Needless to say, I would put the receipt number as a reference in the letter/include a copy of the NOA1, just in case some kind soul decides to tread in the dungeons and locate your application.

    Good luck.
