  1. Folks:

I am getting ready to file my wife's AOS package and plan to send everything via overnight Fedex. I see two possible addresses on I-485. Can someone tell me which is the correct address to use. Greatly appreciate your help.

    File at:

    USCIS

    P.O. Box 805887

    Chicago, IL 60680-4120

    For courier/express delivery:

    USCIS

    Attn: AOS

    131 South Dearborn - 3rd Floor

    Chicago, IL 60603-5520

    Thanks

  2. Guys:

Moksha/Dilbert - I sent separate emails to you. I am trying to get everything completed this weekend. Got some bad news on Thursday. I am being severed from my job in 30 days. Not sure the implications it will have on AOS. Trying to get everything out ASAP.

Have my medical appt to get vaccination records transferred tomorrow.

I posted my questions on the AOS forum. Wanted to post here so I can get some help from you guys. Not sure if Karri has applied yet.

    Here are my questions...

    1) Do we put the the I-94 number or the A-number on the different forms. My wife has the A number (or what looks like the A number) on the I94 card.

    2) Form 1-131, Adv Parole. Do we need to fill out Supplement, part 7 ? Is it required/necessary ?

    3) K1 Approval notice..I send a copy of the K1 approval notice not the original, right

    4) I864 questions...

Do I need to submit tax transcripts/W2s etc for the last 3 years or just most recent year, i.e. 2008?

Do I need to send an employment letter

    Bank statements ?

I am thinking of what I had to do for I134, but I864 does not specify those things.

    I-864, Ques 21, c (re: Household size). Do I put 0 or 1 ? The example form says 0.

I693 -- the parts that need to be filled out...

    Part 1 (we fill this)

Part 2, #5, the Civil surgeon fills this out.

Part 5, the Civil surgeon fills this out.

For forms, we need to send the following ?

    I485, I765, I131, I864, I693.

What about I-130 .. is that required ?

Where do you file the whole packet ?

    File at:

    USCIS

    P.O. Box 805887

    Chicago, IL 60680-4120

    For courier/express delivery:

    USCIS

    Attn: AOS

    131 South Dearborn - 3rd Floor

    Chicago, IL 60603-5520

If I am sending everything overnight/Fedex, I should send it to the Dearborn address, right ?

    Thanks for your help.

  5. In my case, fiance is missing 1 shot --he will receive the shot end of this month-- so, i would need to submit a I693a supplement. Which i need to take his vaccination records to a local civil surgeon and then the civil surgeon will complete the form for us to mail in along with the I-485 ???

There isn't an I-693a unless you found an old copy somewhere on the internet. It has been replaced and shouldn't be used. Download the new I-693 and read the instructions. You'll fill in your personal information, then take the form to a Civil Surgeon (or mail to Dr. Arnold) along with whatever records you have of your shots. The Civil Surgeon will fill out the immunization section, sign the form, and seal it up for you to mail with your application. Call and ask the prices and confirm the CS will do only the immunization section for you. Many will charge too much or tell you that you have to take the whole medical over again. Shop around for the best price.

Nich-Nick -- My fiancee (wife now) took all the vaccinnations for the K1 visa and I have a copy of the DS 3025. Can I just send that instead of the I-693?

    thx

  6. When i filed my AOS I used my married name. My Green card and work permit were approved in just 1 month and 11 days without interview. I got no problem with it But, in my SSN, STATE I.D, Learner's permit to drive i did used my maiden name because the authorities wont let me use my married name. I can only change my last name once i will get my green card.

Thanks kroo_joy. Even though you had all the documents in the maiden name, you used the married name on the AOS application and that was not a problem ?

    thx

  7. My fiancee arrived in the US 4 weeks ago. Since her arrival, we applied for a social security number and a name change for her. Her surname is now mine. I want to make sure that we can process her AOS application with her new surname (last name) even though her visa, passport, and medical documentation still remains as her maiden name. Will this confuse and lengthen the process? I read earlier that we should finalize any name change before processing the AOS packet. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a similar question. In my case, however, I did not change my (now) wife's name. So, here social is in her maiden name as is every document. Can I put her last name as my last name on my application. Is that recommended ?

How does one go about changing the last name by the way ?

    Thx

  8. hi guys:

Good to see y'all (don't start with my southern accent now Karri) come back. Thanks for starting the thread Dilbert. Moksha - glad to see someone has sent in their papers. Congratulations. Woohoo

Guess, we will all look to you for help with questions.

I have been hibernating/slacking off/working my behind off/all of the above who knows. Think the K1 process took its toll. Have been taking it easy a bit spending time with my wife, who is cooking me all kinds of goodies and not letting me go to the gym, so I have been putting on lots of weight at the wrong places. Not complaining by any means though.

As for me, we got married just over a month ago. Did get the SSN card earlier this week. That is how far I 've gotten so far. Plan to start looking at the AOS forms over the next few days. Again, am in no rush. Just happy that my wife is with me.

Will keep you guys posted as I am moving along, hopefully soon.

  9. I used Reliance and Skype. With Reliance, you can log into your account and get the call history. It gives all the details. Number dialed, dialed from, date, duration, cost. They only go back 30 days, so made a note to myself to print at the end of every month.

  10. Folks:

    Question on SS card/AOS filing.

As part of the visa application at the Consulate, DS-230 asked if you would like an SSN card issued to you and we had say yes (believe it was question 33 on Part II). We did get a paper from the consulate that which says that if you requested a SSN when you applied for your visa (which we did), you DO NOT need to go to the SS office, a SSN will be assigned and mailed to you within three weeks of US arrival.

Is this true or do I need to go to the local SSA office and make an application. Anyone here who has gone through something similar.

Also, we are already married now, so can I get a SS card issued in her married name ?

Also, as part of the AOS application, do I need to wait to get the SSN before I can file AOS for my (now) wife.

    Thanks a bunch.

  11. hi Guys,

need your help, we received our NOA2 on march 27th, and after a week or so i got mail from NVC saying that we have received your case along with the new case number.

But since then there has been no communication, i am not sure if our case has reached mumbai.

what are the options that i have at this point, and is it normal for NVC tot ake 2 or 3 weeks. really confused.. please help

Jeemee... you can call DOL and give them your case number and they can tell you if your file was received at the mumbia consulate. As your case moves forward, you can also find out when Pkt 3/Pkt 4 docs were sent by the consulate to you and your interview date. DOL has access to all the consulate databases and can look things up. I had much better luck with them than emailing the consulate. I don't have the number handy and the options you need to pick to get to a live person. I had posted those details somewhere on the P3/P4 topic that was started by Karri you see in this forum. Very informative and helpful. Some of us were going through the process around the same time and helping each other. I will highly recommend that you read that in it's entirety and you will get answers to most of your questions.

    Good luck.

Thanks classicrock and ELW for your response. you really helped relax a bit. i have asked my guy to mail mumbai consulate and will call DOL 1st thing on monday. got hold of the number n sequence for DOL awesome work i must say :)

Another thing that i need to ask is regarding the police and passport clearance. My fiance has lived in gujrat almost all his life except for past 1.5 years of which he has spent 4 months in mysore and rest in bangalore he had to move there because of his job.

so how do we go about getting these clearances?, his passport was issued from ahmd so i understand that he will have to get passport clearance from ahmd passport office. And as far as police clearances are concerned, is he supposed to get police clearance from bangalore as well as mysore or just banglore should be fine ? and would they be willing to give these clearance with out actually receiving pkt 3 ?

please help me with your thoughts on this case, or if there is better post dedicated to this problem then please inform me about it. meanwhile i am going through the post that u have mentioned (classicrock)

    thanks again..

I am not sure but from what I seem to recall, you need PCCs only from places where you have lived at for 6 mos or more. So, if your fiancee lived in Bangalore for only 4 mos, I wouldn't think you would require one from there. But, knowing how unpredictable the COs can be, you might want to get one from there if you can. Also, diff places are different in what they ask for when you apply for the local PCC. In my case (in Kolkata), I had sent my fiancee the approval notice and that worked (scanned and emailed). I would get started on the PCC ASAP, since that can take some time.

    Good luck

  13. Congrats Karri...to you and Sam both! I am so happy for you guys...it was long fought road for you! I'm sure you must be so excited right now. He'll be here soon and you guys can start your new...not-having-to-see-eachother-via-internet-everyday life together :)

I just got back...One ?, at the POE what do they stamp for the beneficiary? Anything specific? do they stamp the duration of stay in the I-94. It has been pretty rough last 4 weeks...still coming to terms

yes, they stamp the I-94 with the expiration date (which should be valid for 90 days). Sorry to hear about the bad news in your family.

Update on my front.... got the civil ceremony done yesterday. No hiccups. Need to file for the AOS next.

Karri - guess, Sam is on the plane by now. congrats. I am sure you are excited and he will be the sight for your sore eyes when you see him as he steps off the plane....

  14. Not sure if this belongs to this forum. My fiancee just entered the US on K1 visa a week ago and we are looking to do a civil marriage so I can file for her AOS as soon as possible. Looking at the marriage license requirement docs in my state, I see that among other things, a SSN/card is required. I was planning to apply for her SSN after the marriage with the new name.

What is the process I need to follow. Can someone point me to the right link. pls help.

    thanks a bunch.

  15. lol. My prize will arrive in 9 days and I'm going to spoil him rotten. =D Do you have any idea how hard it is to plan an American wedding in less than a month? I managed to crank out most of the details in the last 36 hours and I'm so exhausted. Even found a girl to do my henna. =D Should I surprise Sam with our honeymoon location or shall I let him in on the secret? Haven't decided yet lol. Where abouts do you live Classicrock? How is the climate there? I'm trying to prepare Sam with the forecast for the 19th, he's going to be bringing his jacket. =D

I can imagine. You must have been busy with the 221g and all thrown down your way as well. Definitely spoil him and yourself, too. After all we have gone through with this visa stuff, I think we all deserve it. Don't you think I would keep the honey moon location a secret. Keep him guessing. It will add to the fun I think.

Carolina is always on my mind not just James Taylor's. Get it. I live in NC. It does get cold here but we have had some awesome weather. My fiancee is still cold (she is from Kolkata and when I was there it was in the upper 80s) but she is enjoying the weather. It's been sunny and been in the mid to upper 60s in the last couple of days. What about you ? You .. somewhere on the west coast ?

Good luck with the wedding prep. Not trying to make light of all the work you need to do, after all the K1 stuff, it should be a somewhat of a breeze.

Oh ok, I've been to NC once for work last year. It's a very pretty state! I myself live in Ohio and the winters here are brutal. Sam's never experienced -0C before ::evil grin:: It's been hovering around 5C this week. I grew up on the west coast through. Well the surprise honeymoon idea is out. I was thinking dinseyworld but it would be too much work to do in such a short time. People book those kinds of trips years in advance. Now I'm looking for something more relaxing and not as expensive, either within driving distance from Cleveland or a quick plane ride to California so I can show him where I grew up. If I do decide to go to California, ELW, let's arrange a get together!

yep, someplace warm would be nice. Given your location, I would suggest Niagara Falls. Romantic and hopefully, will not be too cold. Another great place is Gatlinburg, Tennessee -foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Depending on where you are in OH, may be bit of a drive (`7-8 hrs) but a great place.

  16. Alemi, sometimes it takes 3-4 weeks for them to do something after the case arrives at the Consulate. Try immediately sending an email with your case number and asking what the status is.

dagnytaggart, yes pretty much everything is available here, except the pressure cookers just rock back and forth and don't whistle like the Indian ones (cook for 3 whistles, 4 whistles etc). Once here, a rice cooker is a super handy thing to get - we got ours at Walmart. Also we couldn't find my honey's favorite Priya pickles in any of the 5-6 Indian grocery stores here in our city (only ones that expired in 2006!) but I don't know if you can bring the oily pickles on the plane. Good quality, inexpensive idlee cookers are hard to come by here, that would be a better thing to stuff the luggage with rather than a pressure cooker!

Make sure to bring all the original official paperwork just in case (school and birth certificates, etc.). Keeping a joint bank account in India (joint with some family member staying there) is handy for sending money over to India later.

I think North and South Indian spices are similar - you can look at recipes online. Sure the spices are expensive here but what to do - keeping spices for years makes them less tasty - they should be replaced every six months at least. We love South Indian food and we always have a full supply at home of the following: coriander powder (dhania), cumin (jeera), mustard seeds, fenugreek (methi), tumeric, dried red chilies, dried curry leaves, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, ginger plus urad daal (black gram), chana daal (dried chick peas), toor/tuvar daal, moong daal (green gram). The ready-made spice powder mix packets are sold here and oh so handy: masala, curry, pulav biryani, korma, sambar, rasam, etc., as well as idlee, dosa, vada mixes.

Welcome to Your Honey - Home Sweet Home! :D

Wow, great thanks so much!!! I will certainly have him get one of those Idlee cookers. I saw a bunch of spices at the store and they were fresh and not too expensive so I think we are better off just getting the spices here. The one thing I am having him bring is kashmiri saffron. So much cheaper there. Here is it $15 for a gram and there is it $6 so it makes more sense to bring it from there. The joint bank account is a great idea also. I will let him know about that tomorrow. He already has all his important papers put aside to bring with him.

And thanks for the welcome. We are so excited and I can't wait for him to be here I miss him so much!!

dagnytaggart - you can pretty much get everything here...it is just more expensive. My mom just gave me a bunch of stuff. I kept resisting but she kept insisting and I just couldn't fight her anymore. But I think, getting a pressure cooker is a great idea. We brought two.. a small 3 litre (for just the two of us) and another 5 litre one, big for more people if you like to entertain. Also, you can use the 5 litre for making Iddly's if you get the iddly plates. Another thing that is handy is the rolling pin or belan and chakla (although you can use the kitchen counter tops or cutting board) for making chapatis or puri's. If he is religious and prays then he should bring his gods/murtis.

Again, you get everything here. And if you have room and can carry more weight, do it else carry the other imp. stuff.

    Good luck,

  17. lol. My prize will arrive in 9 days and I'm going to spoil him rotten. =D Do you have any idea how hard it is to plan an American wedding in less than a month? 18. PIO card is an easy process and one can get it in 1-2 weeks. OCI takes longer. 2-2 1/2 months. I applied for a PIO card a few months ago, but was unsuccessful as I was told not to send my US PP. Wrong. So, don't forget to send your US PP along with other docs. I was too close to leaving for India at the time and so decided to get the Indian visa rather than send my US PP and get the PIO card.

  19. Hey Guys:

Just an update. I just got back from India yesterday. Was there only for a week. Jet lagged. Went there to get my prize. AND YES  , my fiancee is with me. Hard as it is to believe, she is laying next to me (no kidding), taking her beauty rest. She is just petered out from the long flight, the time diff. Her body clock is off.

JFK was my POE. It was a breeze. No questions asked. Got the EAD card, too. They just give it to you. Don't need it yet though as I want her to take it easy for a bit.

Dilbert/Moksha/Gagan - saw that you guys got approved, too. Congratulations. And Karri and Sam - saw that your 221g got approved too. That is great news. Happy for all of you.

Here's to our best days ahead of us with our SOs. I will drink to that.:dance::dance::dance:

    Cheers

  20. Congratulations !!! Wow... that is a long wait...Commendable patience I must say.

I just bought a round trip ticket for myself (US Citizen) and a 1 way (originating from India) for my fiancee using makemytrip.com. It was an eticket. I have bought tickets for myself from them and have always used the webchat functionality to buy. Never spoken to a cust service. No complaints on the service whatsoever. Have heard of Kayak too but have never used them so can't comment.

    Good luck.

  21. My fiance Sam had his interview today and got a 221g. Here's the list of things they want from us:

    1) Notarized explanation of how and when you first met your fiancee and why you decided to get engaged - I wonder if they want this in Sam's writing instead of mine from his side/notary. Any advice on this one would be most appreciated, they apparently didn't like that we met in an Internet chat room.

    2) List of all engagement ceremony guests, their relationship to you, their addresses and phone #'s, Please do not include immediate relatives. There was 8 people who weren't immediate relatives I hope that is good enough!

    3) Itemized emails and/or postmarked letters or cards showing correspondence with your fiancee before and after the engagement ceremony. We already submitted that grrrr!!! But we'll do it again.

    4) Photos of you and your fiance before, during, and after the engagement ceremony. We already submitted that grrrr!!! But we'll do it again.

    5) Notarized copy of your fiance's passport - assuming this is to be done on my side from a U.S. Notary?

    6) Voter's ID card and voter's list for yourself for the past 5 years. - Sam will have to figure out this one.

    7) Notarized statement from your fiancee describing her ability to speak your language (Hindi/Punjabi/Other) and any specialized training she has received in the same - What the heck? We speak English to each other!!! Do you want me to print out the 6000 emails from the last 2 years?? Haha.

Karri - Looking at the list, it does not look too bad. Some I have seen been asked to provide wedding plans, like hall receipts, shopping receipts, invitation cards, guest lists (for the future wedding), etc..you name it and they have been approved. The above list does not seem to go there, which is good. You should have most of the things (heck you should have submitted all to begin with, right). I wonder if they ever looked at your file or they did and just want more. In my case, if you recall, they did not ask to see anything, but I had submitted the pkt 4 list, including emails and phone records (the VFS Kolkata office insisted that we do) and told us to take bday cards/other relationship docs with us to the interview..

Except for the Language (which I am still scratching my head over.. that raises many questions on many diff levels) and may be the Voter's Id, this list is doable.

Overload them with info. Get letters of support/approval from both your parents. Get testimonials from friends (have them notarized. I had them for my fiancee, just in case).

Good luck. Hope everything works out for the two of you soon. Stay strong. I know it is easier said than done, but stay focused and you will sail through.

  22. CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!

Well, as usual there are 16 hour blackouts, political corruption, piles of garbage waiting to be picked up(still haven't resolved that issue yet), bandhas, chakka jams, dangerous animals roaming the streets(and that's just the ®NA/police)...

    However..............

    GOVI GOT THE VISA!!!

He just called me now - I actually was able to sleep a little and had my mobile next to my face in case the Embassy called. He said they took his passport and will be called to pick up the visa in 2 days. He said it was a male CO, very nice, asked about how we met, my name(name change), looked at all of our photos and was impressed how organized everything was (that's what you get for marrying a librarian) I will ask more questions but it doesn't seem like any of our red flags were a big issue. Govi said see we were so worried but Ganesh helped us!!!

He was deliriously happy and I wish I was there right now!!!!

  23. Congratulations Moksha. Really happy for you.:dance:

Sam and Karri - really really sorry to hear that. :crying: Hope it does not take too long for you guys. Speak the same language.!!!... that is a first. Don't those jerks know that love knows no boundaries... geo/race/caste/creed.. even Language for that matter...I can go on. You guys can communicate in English.. can't you ... this is insanity. Those guys have carte blanche when it comes to visas and they spare no efforts in exercising that...again, sorry to hear that. You will both be in my prayers.

Take one step at a time. Try to answer what they want without wasting any time. Other options would be DCF, which requires a 90 day stay I believe. Have not looked into it to know if that applies to K1 or just IR1/CR1 or K3 cases, in which case, you will need to marry. But, I believe, you do not go through USCIS, straight through the Consulate. So, that would be faster, I imagine. You can always do a K3. K3 cases from CA appear to not take as long...

  24. Not sure if this is the place to post this question...here goes.

I am flying back with my fiancee and my POE is JFK. Looking at the POE reviews at JFK posted on VJ, it was not clear which line both the US citizen/fiancee stand in ... US Citizens/GC holders or Visitors ?

Needless to say, we would like to minimize the wait and want to stand in the US citizens line unless the visitor line was shorter. Our flight gets in at 6:40am in the morning.

Can folks chime in with input/thoughts/experiences ?

    thx
