  1. I've got to ask, because some one has to do it, why are the Philippines so apparently overrepresented on VJ in terms of K-1 beneficiaries? I understand that the country makes up somewhere around 1.37% of the world population, but my sense is that somewhere around 75% of the k-1 beneficiaries on this site are from the Philippines. What gives?

Because of the internet, silly. West meets east because of the internet. It so happens that the charming and sweet wives are from the East.

if you are asking this question it is because you never had the pleasure of dating a Filipina!. Anyone that has had this experience can tell you that they concentrate on their partners needs at all times. Chat with one for more than 1-2 times, the first question they ask in a chat is "did you eat yet", hehehe. They always put your well being first. And when you are finally blessed by marrying one. You never have to ask why again!

Yes I love my Filipina wife because she is the best. I went half way around the world to be with her, spent 2 yrs in the Philippines working her visa, to be with her, and have had blessed days the whole time. Love you Mahal Ko!!!

  2. Have any of you experienced meeting a Filipina and falling in love with her and discussing her moving to your country and marrying you and then right about when the petition is approved or shortly after she gets to your country she starts hinting to you about moving to the Philippines when you retire? But before that it was all about her saying she had NO problems moving to your country and marrying you and having a happy loving relationsahip forever? Seems like having you move to the Phils was in her mind all along and she only was agreeing to come to your country for as short as a time as possible. I have nothing against about moving there and actually have thought about it prior to her mentioning it but it just seems as if that was her plan all along and she never was truthful to me about it.

I know my wife has plans for us to return to the philippines when we are retired, not to have me move to her country but finacially it is a smart move. The cost of living there is much lower than in the states and the dollar goes alot father. Maybe she is just planning ahead for your future and trying to discuss what is the best possible scenario for you. I was always aware that my wife had a desire to return to the PI at some point. And since i love her and her family very much, this is a logical thing for her to be planning for us.

I would suggest discussing it with your wife and make plans for that unless you are totally against living in the PI , it is the perfect place to retire to. Take the time now and find a nice piece of land to build a house and do it while you wait for the time to retire.

  4. My wife had her interview april 3rd and she received it on the 7th. that was going from manila to iligan city in mindanao in 4 days so probably a week is a good reference time for delivery.

  5. Hello everyone!

I know there's a poll somewhere on VJ about the age difference between filipinas and their husbands/fiances. I've seen it and saw many with large age gaps between the man and woman. I'm just curious. Did the consular officer bring this up during the interview? Did it cause anyone to get denied? I've been worrying about this the last couple of days. Her interview is June 16th. She just needs to do one more thing for her medical related to her recent surgery. We have a legitimate relationship and proof of such for three and half years now. Maybe I'm just worried about nothing but any reassurance would make it easier to sleep at night. I really don't want anymore delays.

Thanks everyone and good luck with your visa journey.

    Best wishes,

    Grace & Steven

my wife and i have an age gap of 16 yrs and the topic never came up at the in terview and we had about the same as you as farr as time in the relationship but we had been married for almost 2 yrs at the time of the interview. just have faith that everything will be fine and it will.don't get too stressed at it or she may get stressed too and you don't want that going into the interview.

  6. Question lang my fellow pinay about my SSN...

after 2 weeks of my entry here kumuha n ko ng SSN

now that I am married need ko ba bumalik pra ipabago

yung surname ko to my married name? mg e- xpired

yung I-94 ko this end of the month.

    thank you all...

Yes you should but what i did was I applied for my SSn after we got married to have my married name on my SS card. Then I went back to the SS office as soon as I received my green card for them to replace my SS card that authorized me to work.

Your Card will be marked "NOT AUTHORIZED " for work pa till u get ur green card..correct me if am wrong ppl.

my wife just got her SS card and it didn't say anything about not authorized to work and she was registered under CR-1 status

  7. Hi VJers,

Just wanna tell you guys that i am finally here at Cleveland, arrived yesterday night. 24.30 hrs flight, tiring but everything went well except at Newark Immigration. It was a Filipina who interviewed me first then I was escorted to the immigration officer. i was asked to just wait for my name to be called for the final interview but i almost cried because it was more than an hour already and still my name was not called, I decided to approach the officer and then he told me that my packet went to the wrong place, he then processed it. Told me to get married within 90 days and welcomed me. I am just thankful that I had 4 hours layover at Newark Airport. Except for this incident, everything went well, the airport officers were all friendly and helpful to me.

Long flight, tiring, had a little problem at the immigration but...it's all worth it, especially when i saw my Mikee waiting for me. Just realized how much i love him.

    PS

I was surprised that the luggage carts at Newark is not for me free.....hehehe.

That's awesome welcome to the states. Mona and I arrived back last May 10 and we had just a small issue at immigration too but we got it fixed with a call to USCIS.

best wishes for you and your husband's future.

  8. On Form DS-230, it asks if it's okay for disclosure of the applicant information in order to use it for a Social Security issuance.

Does this mean, if we say "yes," that we do not have to apply for a SS# for my fiancee separately? Will they just mail her a card to our residence once we are married? ?

Also, there are questions related to "spouse" on this form. Since we are applying for K1, so we just put N/A?

This interview is on July 6 at the Chennai Consulate.

    Thanks!

    Steve

Steve when i filled that out we said yes for the SS card but that doesn't mean she will get it. That is the way it is suppose to work but when I got My wife here in the States, I took her to the SS office and applied the day we arrived again and she got it in about 10 days. I would suggest doing the same don't wait for them to send it once she is here.

  9. Hi fellow VJ friends, finally we are in the states and all is well with us. The flight was lomg and only one slight problem at POE. My wife was to get a 10 yr card but they processed her in under the 2 yr, but all is well I contacted USCIS here and they changed it to the correct status before they mailed the greencard so she should receive the 10 yr card when it comes. We have been busy since we got here, getting her State ID and SS cards. She is adjusting well except for the sticker shock on prices here vs the Philippines. Well that's all for now. God Bless all of you for all the help we received and may all of you have a fast visa journey. We are here for you also.

  10. Hi all!

My daughter and I are leaving the country soon to join the head of the family!

I have a question, what passport will my daughter use to leave the country, US or Philippine passport? Her Philippine passport isn't available yet till middle of this month yet my husband want us there with him this week. Is it possible if we will just use her US passport? Will immigration in the Philippines let us go? Thanks in advance!

    PS

Do we also have to bring a letter from my husband to authorize me to travel with our daughter? I heard letters like that is required but isn't just clear to me what really is the process. Thanks again!

your daughter should use her US passport since she is already a US citizen and as for the letter, I would suggest calling the Philippine Embassy for that answer because it is better to be safe than stopped at the airport by an Immigration Officer having a bad day.

  11. Greetings VJ Members,

What hotel/furnished apartment can you recommend near the SLMCEC; price range from USD 50-70/night.

Please include contact number if you may have. Kasama ko nanay ko, so ready na itinerary niya punta daw siya ng intramuros, at iba pa..... hehehehehe....ai ewan, alam nyo na inosenteng bisaya kami. any good place to see and visit while in manila? huwag lang MOA ha, takot ako dyan super laki pati asawa ko natakot din...(shame on me)...

    Thank you guys.....

    GOD Bless.

My wife and I stayed at the City State Hotel in Manila for her medical and interview. It is clean and the rooms are running 1550 pesos for the standard (30 USD). It is located walking distance from St Lukes as well as the Embassy. There are several resteraunts close by and also Robinson's Mall is a short walk from the hotel as well. I don't have the number handy but it is easy to find on google search. Best of luck and as far as attractions to see, try the Fish Aquarium and also there are a couple amusement park type attractions close by. Watch the cab drivers and let your wife be the one to negotiate prices because they will try to charge extra to foreigners. Make sure you get a quote of price before getting into the cab, best to use the metered ones than try to work a deal with a driver. Avoid the Airport taxi service since they are the highest rates in the city.

  12. Well, I will try to help here. First of all communication is a 2- way street. If you are mad say you are mad and if you don't like the "torment"tell him so. Also remember that being pregnant brings chemical changes to your body. Hormones are in chaos and your emotions will be heightened to the point that you will over react to things. This is not to say you are the cause of the problem, I am just trying to get you to see your part of the equation. My wife has the same type of concerns when her and I discuss my EX. She says she is not mad or bothered but her actions show a different story and we have great communication, talking all things. As far as the computer goes with your Bana you have the right to lay ground rules for his using it. It is a matter of respect. And to just reply that he likes tormenting you is unacceptable in any terms. My gosh if i said that to my wife i would be afraid of waking with body parts removed! hehe just kidding (not really) we all know pinays. But what it sounds to me like is that you 2 have not set boundaries in the relationship. You can't expect good communications when you have not even set the norms of the relationship. I would start by putting your boundaries in place for him (in a respectful but serious way). Let him know you have expectations and ask also what his are and start the long term relationship with clearly defined boundaries, goals and expectations established. Good communication needs to be structured and since you seem to be the one wanting to take the lead in it then do it. Talk with him, pray together, make time for each other that doesn't allow distractions (computer, tv, texting, etc.). And don't expect too much change fast but stay committed to it, holding the boundaries you set. Best of luck to you on this issue and keep the faith. You said you love your bana that much so fight for the kind of marriage you want. As for the ex, you can't expect her to be totally out of his life, that is not reality. At some point in the past he had a relationship with her, that you will have to come to accept or it will drive you crazy. But having said that you do have a say in what the relationship is like now with her for him. Again it is an issue of establishing those boundries.

  13. I was wondering if anybody knows the answer to this. My Fiancee's cousin told us

for her Medical and interview they mailed her the appoiontment dates. She didn't have

to call them to shcedule it. Has anybody else had this experience ??

She said they got the letter from the Embassy telling them the date and times to be there.

    Thanks,

    Charles

whether the embassy mails a letter depends on what type of visa you are getting. for a CR/IR visa, NVC schedules the interview. For the K type visas the beneficiary will do it once the case is complete at the embassy (all Paperwork submitted) and the Medical is finished. There is no need to schedule the medical it is a walk in process, if you don't have the interview letter you can just use the NOA-2 instead. Just remember not to do the medical too early because the results are only good for 4 months. After you have all paperwork submitted to the Embassy you should get a letter (email) instructing you what is next for a K visa type.

  14. A marriage certificate is not required to be filed with the Embassy after a marriage in the Philippines just NSO but it is a good idea to do it since eventually it will need to be because of Social Security issues and Tax purposes unless you do a visa petition. Once you submit the Marriage certificate to the USCIS and NVC it is registered anyway.

  15. Ok sounds like you are confused about the fees needing to be paid. The I-130 process starts with paying of 355 USD to USCIS, this is the petition fee (I-130 application) which you got your NOA-1 showing that is paid. Once your case is complete at USCIS you received your NOA-2 which starts the NVC process. The fees paid at NVC stage are 70 USD which is the AOS fee (I-864) and then the IV fee of 400 USD ( DS-230). Once you complete the NVC stage and your case goes to the Embassy you will have 213 USD medical fee, and at the actual interview you will pay a delivery fee that varies depending on the carrier and location of the delivery. The Embassy fees I quoted are for the Philippines but are similar to other Embassies.

  17. There are situation that people help each other with credit issues etc. so give him the benefit of the doubt. He let's you open his mail and tells you to ask the kids if you want explanation before he returns so he is not trying to hide anything from you. If he was he would not let free access to the mail or the free stories of the kids. I do the same with my wife if she has a doubt in something i said about my past I tell her just ask the kids how they saw things. Showing I have nothing to hide or that i might be concerned what they might say. Wait till he returns and then have a quiet adult talk and seek to understand not convict without a trial. Not saying you are doing that just quoting a phrase. Best of luck with this but please try to be understanding and don't make a problem that may not be there.
