Yes, this. We were in the same shoes and we just brought it all! We're still married, so why not bring them. He had his interview about a month ago and the ceremony is this week. They didn't ask to see them (although we did submit copies with the application as requested). I've of the mind ot just bring it all!

My husband is having his Oath Ceremony in Atlanta this Friday. I read a post from September, which I assume is mostly up-to-date, but was wondering if anyone could answer some specific questions or have any more recent info.

We're supposed to be there at 8:00am. It doesn't say what time the ceremony is.

We have a family friend, my dad, and my sister-in-law who want to come (plus me) and our two young kids. Is this okay? Nowhere does it say how many people can or can't come with you...The post from September seems like we actually don't get to even see them giving the certificates and only taking the oath. That's kinda a bummer. Has that been the experience for everyone?

Since we have some family friends coming, do they also have to be there at 8? Or does the ceremony start at 9 or something?

My husband has his interview in atlanta tomorrow. I tried to search, but only came up with posts from 2009-2012. Does anyone know if Atlanta still does same day oath ceremonies if you have a morning appointment? His interview time is 9:35am. I hope we can do the ceremony tomorrow too!!

Also, our 3 year old is staying with his aunt, but our 9 month old will be with us. Is this a problem? I really want to go with him, but the baby needs to stay with me!

If they allow the same day oath ceremony I'd love to go and pick up our 3 year old so he can be there too. I assume this is allowed, right?

Anything else we should know? Expect? Bring? Not bring?

So I just checked out online account after having done biometrics and it says we can expect 12 months (November 2018!!) before they schedule the interview. Based on many of your signatures, it seems like you were done much faster than this! Is this just what they say for everyone and in a couple months we'll get an interview date potentially, or will it really be likely 12 months before we hear anything else?

What should my husband bring to his biometrics appointment tomorrow for N400? Applying on 5 year rule.

I know he should bring: His appointment letter, passport, and green card. Anything else?

I seem to remember reading he doesn't have to bring pictures, but sometimes they ask for them? His appointment is in Atlanta if that matters.

sorry, I'm not familiar with the 5 year rules, only with the 3 year ones, why wait 2 more years? We didn't want to and I don't see the process complicated nor involving too much paperwork. The photo requirements just recently changed, we had to submit them since we filed a few days before the change. I usually find the instructions on the USCIS website easy to follow, I ask when I'm not sure and I think is better to send more than asked than just what they ask for unless that means more time to get the papers.

Yes, but we're already been here 6 years, so there is no reason for us to "wait two more years". I agree in general that you might as well apply at 3 years, but we didn't so it's a moot point.

Anyway, I think I'll just send in what's asked for the 5 year rule and have the other marriage stuff ready for the interview. If they did ask for it before then, I could send it then. But, really there should be no reason for them to ask for it before since he more than qualifies even if we were no longer together.

I'm confused with #2.

You did ROC in 2012 then he could have applied for naturalization in 2013. You said "As if applying through marriage" so assuming he's applying some other way but why?? marriage is the fastest way, you can apply for naturalization 3 years after getting your green card, any other way is at least 2 years more.

We've been living in the US for 6.5 years now, so he qualifies under the 5 year rule. He doesn't need me.

My question is (and I think it was answered below, although some more opinions would be appreciated), should we include evidence that we are still married (like we would have to do applying under the 3 year rule) even though he qualifies for the 5 year rule?

The previous poster said no. I plan on getting that stuff together for the interview anyway I guess, but I won't include it in my original packet if not necessary. If that's the case then I'm basically ready to send off now!

Two questions:

1) So on the N-400 instructions it says under "required evidence" for 1. Photographs "Only applicants who reside overseas must provide two identical color photographs of yourself taken recently.", but on the Visa Journey Step-by-Step guide, it says that ALL applicants must send in two identical color photographs.

So, do we need to send in the photos or not? Obviously I'm more inclined to think no, since that's what the instructions say. But, it's an easy thing to include, so better safe than sorry?

2) My husband has been living here since 2010, so he qualifies since we've lived in the U.S. for over 5 years. However, he also qualifies as we're still married, so technically he qualified like 3 years ago. My question is: Should we include documentation WITH THE ORIGINAL PACKET about our marriage as if he was applying based on marriage? Like my birth certificate, tax returns, children's birth certificates, etc? We could get these things, but it's more work if it's really not necessary.

What are your thoughts?

Not to high-jack the post, but it's so similar to my own question that I figured I'd ask here!

My husband will be eligible under the 5 year rule at the end of June this year. Obviously, he could apply now under the 3 year -still married- rule. Would it ultimately be significantly easier for us to wait to apply after his 5 year anniversary, so do you think starting now would be best?

This is not the visa interview. I won't be at the visa interview at all and was looking for honest opinions of others who had been in similar positions. How I phrase my post is not a concern, but rather getting answers to the question (should we mention that she might care for the baby? -NO!). Thank you for the information.

Now the question remains: for BRAZILIANS who have had relatives apply for tourist visas: What ties did they show to Brazil and did they get approved or denied?

Thanks for the help Merrytooth. Hopefully her ties will be enough! She's never been married and doesn't have kids, so that's no help and she's retired so she has no job! But she does own her apartment and get her retirement monthly.

I don't agree Umka36 with your comment though. Sure, agree not to phrase it that way to the interview guys in Brazil, but her coming to stay with us for a couple months IS visiting the family. She'll stay with the baby while we work and while I agree with you that the US government might see that as "her working", she is really NOT working for wages, so I don't see anything wrong with that. The way you phrase it is like we are actually doing something wrong! She's not coming to work for us, but coming to visit and help us out after we have the new baby!

For other Brazilians: What ties did your family members bring to the consulate when applying for tourist visas and did they get approved or not?

Okay, I get that. But would it help for us to write a letter (or for her to state) that her nephew just had a baby and she's coming to visit? Would this help or hurt?

Again, she WILL NOT be staying over the time given to her and we will not be paying her, so we really aren't doing anything wrong!

Hello all!

My husband and I are having a baby in February and wanted his aunt (from Brazil) to come and stay with us for a couple months starting in July to take care of the baby.

Of course we would love for her to stay for 6 months, but understand that she may only be able to stay for 3 months. The plan would be for her to stay at home and care for our baby so that it doesn't have to go to daycare until it's a bit older.

I looked for actual work visas because we figured if she had a work visa she could stay longer (we will NOT pay her, but we would be paying for her trip, food, and expenses here). There doesn't appear to be a work visa that fits our situation. So, we need to get her a tourist visa. As we won't be paying her at all, she really will be a tourist here, so that's not an issue.

We're just looking for some first hand experience of people who have gotten (or tried to get) tourist visas for family members in Brazil. She owns an apartment there, but is retired and has no children. She gets retirement from the government once a month, but other than that has no income in Brazil. What kind of evidence should she bring with her to the consulate for the tourist visa interview process? Should we write a letter about her watching our child for us? Would this help or hurt?

Any advice would be helpful!

Hey all, haven't checked in for a while.

The last thing we did for BIO and haven't heard anything since. I guess that's good since we haven't gotten any RFEs.....

Since this seems to be the appropriate place to ask this, even though it has nothing to do with immigration stuff...

I'm the USC and was laid off last week. I will keep getting paid until 8/31/2012. I was a teacher's assistant so we get paid on a 12 month period, but we have the summers off. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to find another job before 8/31/2012 as this happened to me last year and my principal was able to change my title, but find me another position. He says he can do that again, but until that's done, there is no guarantee of course. So, my question is: Should I go apply for unemployment now even though I won't be collecting until September? And, if I do get rehired and have already applied for unemployment, do I just notify them of my new employment status and it gets cancelled? Should I wait a month or two to see what happens with my job situation in case I get rehired?

We have our biometric appointment tomorrow at the ATL office.

We're going to bring the appointment letter, the NOA1, his greencard, and his drivers license.

I know on the letter it doesn't say you need the NOA1, but I figured we might as well bring it with it, just to be safe. Anyone who has done biometric know of anything else we should bring?

Look at the dates on the chart above and you can see how long it took people at VSC and CSC from NOA1 to Biometrics letter! I guess that doesn't give you exact dates, but if you scroll on this page you can see people updating on receiving their letters.

It took ours about 2 weeks in between.

We got the biometric date!

Glad to see Kimberly and Mark just got their biometrics letter! I was coming on specifically to see if all the other dates around us had already received theirs! I'm waiting for it (not so) patiently!

They most definitely do NOT need to be notarized. Sorry for your experience at Walgreens. I've never had any trouble at CVS

First off, pretty sure you posted this in the wrong forum. Your talking about the K1 interview right?

Secondly, at our DCF interview we paid LONG before they looked at any docs. We paid when we first got there and then weren't called back for about 5 hours. We didn't have to go back for a different interview, but we were missing a doc and we were able to send it in by mail. We did not have to pay again.
