thats really great! comeon vsc, csc go go go!
that's a bit far from Guangzhou.. yeah, we are only about one hour away (bus ride) from Guangzhou, so that's good when the time comes.. -
i dont know i never went to guangdong beforee 广东台山? right?
so going to the interview will be very convienent for you, hehe.
my wife is in shanghai city now, though she is orginally from henan 河南南阳市
she is from Taishan, GuangdongI hear that place is not liked (like Fujian)..
-
where is she from?
问你,她是中国哪里人?
well, no, not her last name.. but I'm guessing they are doing so-called "security checks" on her.. it's a lot easier to find a person's background here than over there.. -
haha, and that's why we are having problems with USCIS...
wow they are giving you problems with that? just how stupid are they?
-
haha, that's true.. her last name is very common.. "CHEN".. and she even said herself that there were 6 students in her class (when she was younger) that had similar / same names as her.. so doing a "security database check" on names there would take forever..It's not uncommon for the female half to need to produce former marriage certificates as well as divorce decrees.
It's done to 'match up' the names listed on the G325a and any other biographical forms.
If this really is commonly asked, then it is strange that the DOS website itself doesn't even mention them as required, it only says termination of prior marriage documentation. And it isn't even mentioned on the I-130 instructions by CIS.
If the reason would really be comparing the names listed to those on the bio information, then that reason is questionnable. The names are also on the divorce (or other termination) papers themselves.
Also, why would only women be asked for them and not men?
But if the documents are really required by CIS or NVC/Consulate, Gogo, then I would try and obtain them best I can. You think there is a way for your wife to get this document quickly?
However, in general, I doubt that this really is or will be asked as a rule. I am real sorry about the way they are treating you and your wife, Gogo.
Gogo's petition isn't even to DOS yet. So I'm not certain why you are looking there. But anecdotally it is quite common especially at the interview stage (which is under DOS juris) for marriage certificates to be requested.
But in case you were wondering why it might be asked for now, look to the instructions for form I-129F, #6 Section C and form I-130, Page 3 "What if your name has changed?".
As already mentioned in my previous post, it isn't mentioned in the I-130 instructions from CIS either and that is definitely where Gogo is at right now.
Furthermore, names don't change per definition due to marriage. Unlike in the US, here it is the big exception in fact. There are plenty of other countries where the same applies. So I fail to see the relevance of your reference to that.
And again, why would it only be asked for women and not for men?
I wonder on what basis you assume that this would be common practice (since other people, like rcars, seem to state the exact opposite).
The basis is anecdotal evidence through the years.
Kathryn mentions above the 'whole picture' and things we cannot see. I presume when you post it is a 'big exception' here you are alluding to China (you don't indicate a country of origin in your profile). I presume you mean that women don't change their name?
One thing I have never mentioned to gogo is all the Communist Party trouble that goes on with Chinese beneficiaries. Who knows what is delaying his case. If his wife was a former member (or is now) this could be causing delays. I should like to add here that I'm fully aware membership in the Communist Party isn't some sort of 'black label' - I'm aware many people in China are forced to join. So I'm making no judgment calls on gogo's wife. What I am saying is there may be some effort on the part of USCIS to acertain exactly who gogo's wife is. Her name could be similar to someone very notable.
It's all just a guess.
gogo....her last name is 陈? yeah thats a very common name.....but my wifes last name is li 李 china number one last name! lol

Anything new with any May'ers????

Maybe this site would help her
Maybe but she dislikes "wasting time talking to strangers on the Internet." She also hates gossip. "My life is too busy with living" she says and who am I to argue? Of course I am shot down with that too but I am used to it!
here is the one of the best community and it's been around for eight plus years now: http://usa.bbs.net.
First, the K1 process is a journey for both parties involved. Therefore, both parties should take time to understand what's involved and what it takes. I want to warn you that the interview can be very cruel and grilling. The US petitioner is not allowed to attend and she will be there all by herself. If she doesn't know what the VO is looking for then she will more than likely to fail. Information is her only friend during that 2 min interview.
very great!
谢谢!

that's a nice story, shenxu!
at least you have your masters to keep you occupied..
LIZ! CONGRATS!!
thanks, im actually working towards my PhD now. Hoping to get a job in the pharmacy industry
-
thanks shenxu..
but sometimes you don't want to wait too long.. If she was here already, then they can take a few years and I wouldn't care..
take it easy, i know its really really hard, but to be so upset has what use?
我知道现在很难过,我也感觉事情都好难过,放心吧,天天会越来越好一些呢。希望能快了点办好了!
同时你不要忘了,你妻子也很难过,为了她需要坚持!事情都会好了。

haha, no they didn't.. that's the thing.. if they wanted me to send some more, they would do that.. here's the latest service request I did on my case (July 7, 2008)..
The status of this service request is:
This case is in process and was sent to the USCIS local office in Los Angeles in November, 2007 for field review and investigation. The case file is currently in transit to this location, California Service Center. You will be notified by mail when a decision has been made or if additional evidence would be needed.
if you haven't followed up.. that is a "new" message to me.. normally they will say I was under "security checks" or "additional processing".. but I had a local office interview in February 2008, and also a letter from FBI (March 2008) that I had sent to the president stating I had no security checks done on my case.. so hopefully they are telling the truth this time.. it is ACTUALLY going back to CSC??... wow... maybe, maybe not... also, another "excuse" when I called the 1-800 number...
they said : "your case has been transferred to the local office, but since they don't have processing times for these types of cases (I even told them they don't normally go there).. then we don't know how long your case will be processed.. you should check with your local office.." and you saw my last post on the local office visit.. so they aren't too helpful...
*pat, pat* things will get better! 给你说一下,不要烦,好事多磨,知道吗?

Thank you...

so you speak chinese then, shenxu? cool...
yeah, we meet because she was a classmate of my Chinese teacher. so my chinese has improved a lot since that day (mostly due to her positive influence)
i can even speak her local dialect now, henan dialect (河南話)
i assume that you can speak Filipino? i have no idea about how different that is from English
just checked USCIS, not touch!
time for me to go to the lab and do some experiment
yes, i speak Ilonggo very fluently, Tagalog only somewhat but i understand it well.. there are hundreds of dialects in the Philippines. where i was born, Iloilo City, we speak Ilonggo. Tagalog is the most common and the national language.
i don't have a touch either.. ####### them.. hahaha! just kidding.. maybe end of the month, MAYBE (crossing my fingers!)
what kind of experiments are you working on, if you don't mind me asking...
I'm a graduate student at rutgers university, majoring in organic chemistry. so everyday i am doing different organic synthesis. everyone in my lab is Chinese, so its just like im in China, lol
Yeah no touches for me either raarrr
eeeewww.. organic chemistry... hahaha! just kidding! i actually did better in organic than in inorganic while in college. course i can't remember any of it it now.. but to make it your career.. wow.. nice!
so was that why you wanted to learn chinese, if you don't mind me asking? 'cause you were surrounded by them?
My bachelors advisor loves to tell this story: when I was a freshman in college, i wanted to do research, so I asked to join his lab. He agreed and he thought that I would teach his students more English, but what ended up happening was they were teaching me Chinese everyday!
So I took a few courses at college, and I picked it up quite fast. During my junior year I spent a year abroad in Shanghai university which is where I meet my wife during that time. After finishing that I came back to the US and finished my final year of college. After graduating I spent several months in China studying Chinese, while procrastanating applying for graduate school. I started graduage school 2 years ago, and im hoping to graduate in 3 years. I went back 3 times during that time, meet her family twice in her hometown and getting married in January of this year. We had to wait a little while to apply for the visa, becuse first I had to figure out what was invovled then it took sometime to get her birth certificate, as this is not so common in China. Now my feelings are just suspended. VSC GO GO GO MOVE IT!

Fellow May filers! Our expedite request is approved!
Congrats LizScott
Thanks Rajaa Reda!
Grats to you! comeon VSC, please "touch" our files!
-
Yesterday the Message in my TIMELINE said that my estimated approval date would be between Aug 16 and September 4. Today it says between September 28 - Oct 28th.. What a change!
Then i say to myself... what could possible have happened for an almost 60 day increase? i look at the individual timelines and i notice 2 people with NOA1's from July 07 and Oct 07... just got approved...
Does this mean that estimated date relies so heavily on just one or 2 people... i mean.. it was just 2...
If you want to get an accurate idea od where you are, look at the spreadsheet below. I wouldn't put too much value in the estimated approval date, or the dates on the USCIS website for that matter.
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p-9...OJQ_i7tcTVRqfdg
if you put much value in any data, then hot do you estimate the time?

Fellow May filers! Our expedite request is approved!if you dont mind me asking, on what ground was it approved? i asked for mine to be expediated on the grounds that my father has terminal cancer, but they denied it because my wife is not his "immediate family"

hm.. terrasip might be a better option for Rajaa.. it has to do with the country. as you can see, no free calls to the philippines there! haha.. 'cause all filipinos do is TALK!!
i get really anxious and in a bad mood if i don't receive ANY communication from him for at least 3-4 hours.. (if i know he is awake, of course.) im so weird like that! so texting works for us.. i have a sim card that i bought over there, set it up to roaming and he can text me on that number for 1 peso as opposed to the 20 pesos if he texts me to my US cell number. i just reply using my US carrier..
so you speak chinese then, shenxu? cool...

I understand shenxu I check the site @ 2 times a day.
yeah, i wish they would update more often!
ohhh.. so that's MENA!i am about 15 hours hours behind him during DST, 16 hours normally. so, he it is 7 am there right now, wednesday
I call my wife everyday, two times a day, for her its free to accept incoming calls.
they dont have daylight savings time, so in the winter its 13 hours and summer its 12 hours
the Philippines doesn't have DST either but we dowe have been together for almost 7 years now, married only 6 months. but the whole "i need to hear your voice 5x a day" doesn't seem to matter anymore. haha! but i do text him about a billion times a day. we talk about 3-4x a week, if he's awake and i'm awake. usually since i work nights, it's days over there, our schedule works out. because when i get home i sleep during the day, he sleeps also since it is night there for him..
i bought vonage and brought it over there, just pay the monthly here.. so he can call me anytime, on my cell, house phone, or work, it's free for him.
ive known her for about 3 years, so i dont need to hear her voice everyday. its not very convienent for me to text her, since my phone cant input chinese. i usually call her after i wake up and before i go to sleep. i really like this way, i think that maybe our time difference is more convienent

wcan i ask what is MENA? don't wanna sound stupid.. heheMENA is short for Midde East Nort Africa don't worry you don't sound stupid...it's on VJ other topics. And it gets heated in there phew
i think it has to do with the beneficiary country too, steve.. the Philippines, i guess, is notorious for fraud in EVERYTHING, not just marriages! that is very sad to say but that's how it has always been..
Sadly Morocco is the same...but now that my husban is working in Spain I hope it helps prove he isn't using me for a visa
i only recently applied for citizenship, despite living in this country for 18 years, since i was 11.. (been putting it off cuz i don't know why.. maybe i like carrying my green card around everytime i travel..
) anyway, my security checks should only take like 1 minute since they already checked me out for the naturalization and my passport. but, i don't know about my husband.. do they do security checks on him too? if they do, then that's what's going to take a while.. see, his grandpa, his dad and his brother are all named the same name.. i don't understand it either.
We are ok with this part as he is the only one with his first and last name... we even did a google check. We both were hoping me having been in the U.S. Army would help us if they're checking me too
after i filed the I-130, i looked at the timelines and to see what the difference is between the CR1 and the K3 for the Philippines.. it wasn't much.. but now, every little day and week and month is counting. just really tired of waiting, ya know..
about month without any touches makes me a sad pandathis website says there processing 05/02/2008 I-29Fs at VSC, so I hope as soon as possible!
i haven't had any touches since May, shenxu, except for that address change but i made them do that.. but then, you have been waiting longer than me! ok, you may cry.. hehehe.. but ya never know.. you could be next! sometimes, touches are nothing.. you just need that ONE last touch and then your approval letter.
thanks thirdjens, its really hard being apart for so long! thats why i usually spend all my time in the lab these days. without my wife i have little mood to go out for fun.
VSC go go go!
[/color]we only got a touch in June for linking our I130 and I129f together.... I am really hoping Steve is right.
I check that USCIS website, and everytime i see no touches, it makes me a sad panda

well...if I've learned one thing about this process from others is don't hold your breath waiting for what you "think". I hope we're all wrong and we're like Steve lol...........as Napolean Dynamite would say.... "luuuuuuucky"
if your waiting for what you "think", then what can you wait for?

No touches since 06/10/2008 so no warm feelings!
lol that is too funny! I haven't had a touch since 06/06/08... so does that mean I have less warm feelnigs?
Just joking. I keep hoping that something will have changed. I am learning patience, but you know what? This lesson is not a fun one!
Hang in there!
Based on the data im reading here, that vermont service center has entered April. Im hoping for August or Septembr to be approved! B)
august or september will be great...then approx 2 months to get out the NVC..hopefully an interview in Jan...wow!! that wud b a dream come true!!
I'm really hoping to get to China by october, and get the interview ASAP!
