Well the whole purpose of Ramadan isn't to read the Qur'an in Arabic (since if you didn't understand it what would be the purpose then?) but to have a super packed month of complemtation about your Creator, your world/self and being closer to your Creator. I believe the whole purpose is the intention. Cramming reading the Qur'an in the month without really thinking on its message or just reading it for the purpose of "I have to" is to me, the opposite of what we should be doing.
