  1. :P

I just figured that I would drop in and say, "hi" since I am still in the process of filing for the K-1. My fiance has found himself surrounded in "trouble", therefor I still haven't received the documents needed for filing the petition. You see, I am a white woman who is going to marry a nigerian man and I have the "stereotype" that I have a lot of money. My SO is so afraid now of letting me be "known" because they want to hold him as "hostage". Does anyone get my drift? It's very sad, and we are both miserable. He is now at home recovering from a head wound, and can't even work. I pray everyday!! Lois God Bless

  2. My SO needs to have one paper signed and the other notarized in Benin City, Nigeria. Does anyone have any information regarding these original documents needed to file a K1 petition? From what I am understanding, the cost is PHEMONINAL!

    got any new updates? :star:

Well, Iam, I have decided that anything that has to be notarized will be notarized there in Nigeria. I'm sending everything in unnotarized. As far as the mailing of documents from Nigeria, the post office is not run by the government therefor they can make a lot of money if someone wants to send something bad enough. I'm sick actually. $250 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have looked into EVERYTHING, and that's it.

  3. I did some checking

DHL envelope normal delivery 8 oz. ~94 dollars

DHL padded envelope normal delivery 3 pounds ~160 dollars

DHL padded envelope normal delivery 5 pound ~ 200 dollars

    Fedex 8oz regular delivery 78 $

    rush delivery 121 $

    3 lbs regular 131

    rush 171

    5 lbs regular 161

    rush 217

You are so kind as to have done this for me. Needless to say, I still don't know where my SO is getting $250.

  4. My SO is sooo worried that the petition won't go through because at the bottom of the Beneficiary's form says that it needs to be notarized. It is quite expensive and he doesn't want to mess anything up. He also says that the EMS service is just as expensive as the FedEx ($250) to mail me documents. Maybe you can tell me this......is there ANY forms along the way that have to be notarized by him?

Exactly what is the name of the beneficary's form? I just recently been through this and there are no documents that have to be notarized by him so please save your money. Maybe he has an old form?? Also, I think my SO used Fedex and it cost him a little over $100.00 to send me the documents I needed by him.

Perhaps this form was for the affidavit of support which comes later on. My SO thinks that I am starting to doubt him because of all of my worries. Remember, he is mailing FROM Benin City, Nigeria to NY, USA. Are the charges in Lagos different?

  5. Nothing needs to be notarized for the K1 petition.

  6. my SO sent me the forms I needed via EMS in Nigeria... It cost like 50 bucks and they are reliable... He got a tracking number.. Once it gets to the state you can track it via USPS.com and it will be delivered by the post office. I got it within the time frame they told him. I know of several other's SO's used EMS with no problems...Hope this helps...

oh, also nothing he sent me needed notorized...

My SO says $250 because he went to the PO today. Sylvia n Joseph said that that is about right. Why is there such a big difference?

I guess it's just the carrier.. Have him check with EMS if its just the forms he is sending...My SO just sent me his in January and it was just 50 dollars... Its located in the same building as the Nigerian post office from my understanding.. But its not like the regular post office there, thank goodness.. you'd never see it then... lol...

I will have him check it out. Maybe he didn't know that EMS was a different service located in the same building. I am really hoping though. Thanks sooo much.

My SO just checked out the Benin City post office and he insists that Fed Ex is the cheapest way to go. The EMS service was even higher. Are you sure that he mailed it from Benin City? He can not find that price anywhere! I'm so confused. Lois

  9. I am at a stand still at this point because my SO is from Nigeria, and he needs to send me the original signed documents for a K1 visa. Has anyone used a reliable service and at what cost? ALSO.....do any of the forms need to be notarized by him before sending the petition off. I've heard both yes and no. Pease help....we've been waiting almost two years.. :crying:

for sure use Fed Ex (or DHL). Read the visa instructions... If they ask for notarized docs., then send them, he can get them certified at the police station

thanks for your help. Do you know if it is costly? I'm being told it's $250

none of the forms needs to be notorized... just needs him to sign it...

WOW...are you sure??? I imagine that he needs to send me the original signed letter of intent along with just a signed signature of the others??? I would be so happy, but now onto the cost of the postal services. thanks

if these are just the standard forms for USCIS, yea, i am sure, nothing needs to be notorized...

you made me sooo happy. thanks

Use FedEx. Its secure and not that expensive about 80 USD

These original signed documents are coming from Benin City, Nigeria, and the cheapest quote he got was from fedex and it was $250. Are you sure of that approximate cost originating from Nigeria? thanks

  14. Please remember you will have to scan and email him a copy of the letter from the NVC and a copy of the NOA2 to take with him to the embassy to pick up the packet. On average I would say within the two week window. They have to receieve the petition and it has to be uploaded in their system.

Can all documents be sent to the embassy in Nigeria as opposed to the SO's address? I know that the regular mail service is unreliable.

  15. I am at 150 days. So people waiting for NOA2 from April and May are at or past 180 days. I wonder if anyone has done anything and gotten a response. Like from USCIS about being at 180 days and still no NOA2. Anyone?

I might actually get to 180 days. I guess I better find out what one does when u reach six months with no answer. I don't get touches on the website either.

WOW....I didn't realize that some of these people have been waiting since 2007!!! I am going to mail my SO the letter of intent for the K1 visa. How should the documents be sent? The mail to nigeria is so unreliable, and I was just seeking advice. thank you...Lois

  16. As for the Cover Letter, you may want to check the K-1 Fiance forum. Once in the forum, click on the section at the top listed as "General K1 Guides and Info".

    Boaz

I did that. Thanks....but that is MS and I have adobe reader. Omoba told me to just list the items included. Is it typed like a regular business letter though?

  17. Hi guys....Does anybody have a sample of the cover letter that goes with the K1 fiance? I only have adobe reader, and I can't download it. Please email me at becahot@optonline.net. I am filing in Jan., and bringing any necessary papers with me, so that he can sign and leave undated. I've been looking and can't seem to find any that requires his signature. (I know that the cover letter is my responsibility. Thanks again...Lois

  18. Sorry, I have not been able to obtain it. I guess find someone who lives close and get it through them. Did you dial the number correct that someone previously gave you ? I noticed there was a 0 in front of the number. I know that calling Germany I have to leave the 0 out which precedes all area codes.Just grasping for straws here. At least you have the address, maybe you can start there.

I actually have been trying to find someone close for a week now, but with now success. And yes, it is dialed correctly, but thanks for trying. I'll keep checking back..Lois

    Federal Commissioner: Otunba S. Okanlawon

Address: Babs Animashaun Road, Surulere, Lagos

    Phone: 01 452 096 66

I have tried that benin city number and they said that it was not in service. Does anyone else know of any police department numbers in benin city, nigeria? Thanks I am really having a tough time with this.

  20. Lois you still heading to Nigeria ? I will be heading there in less than a month.

So far, I have my tickets, but am having difficulty obtaining a visa because of the necessary documents that are needed to visit nigeria. My SO has been "detained" because he was trying to scan me the paperwork. They are claiming "fraudulent activities". I'm so ... who knows what!
