  1. Less than 3weeks till the wedding and still so much to sort!

Although i found the cutest page-boy outfit for my nephew, had to buy it in the UK nd get my Mum to send it over!

The good news...at the moment i can still fit into my dress!! Really hope the bump doesn't expand too much in the next few weeks! hehe

  2. ooh this is great.

I love spicy food and although have managed to re-create a few spicy dishes i would still love some help...

Any idea on how to recreate a Chicken Dhansak or madras (or equivalent taste), Rob is more than happy to try anything and thankfully loves spicy food.

I have never cooked Chicken Dhansak myself (it is actually a dish that originates in a small part of India) but I found this recipe online. It looks like the real thing judging from the ingredients and cooking method, not like the "Versions" of the dishes. Here it is: Chicken Dhansak

    Hope this helps!

    Marm

Thanks for that, i will certainly give that a try this week.

  4. Unfortunately, I'm not up to this task anymore. Feel free to copy the petition draft that I started. I just am not really able to function at all at this point. Although you can no-longer count on me to write the petition, you can still count on my signature.

I flew to Ontario from Washington State after Chris' father called me to tell me that Chris had been hit by a car while crossing the street. When I arrived, I found Chris laying in a coma in a hospital bed in ICU with a black eye and brain damage so severe that his head was swelling. The hospital told us that he would not recover and it was only a matter of time. Later that night, his parents decided to cut his life support and he died within a few hours.

I hadn't seen Chris since November. He always said, "we'll see each other soon enough... why waste the money?"

I know this whole process of waiting sucks, but... be grateful that you have someone to wait for, because it could be gone just like that.

I'll be gone from VJ for a while, but... part of me wants to become some sort of immigration activist. So, we'll see.

Take care everyone, and best of luck to all of you on your visa journey!

I am so sorry to hear this sad news, my thoughts are with you and Chris's family at this difficult time. (F)

  5. Is there a Pakistani Embassy in London? It seems like they would be the ones to help a Pakistani citizen and try to pull some strings to get it pushed through since it's way past due. I can see where the American Embassy probably can't go to bat for a Pakistani for an UK issued visa.

We have contacted the Pakistani Embassy in London, they suggested that the only way they can help would be to issue him a second emergency passport for the interview at the US Embassy....

we later found out that there is a high chance that my fiance can get in trouble for keeping a second emergency passport, I think it is considered illegal in most cases, only very urgent cases can get an emergency passport: such as a stolen or lost passport, and our case does not qualify.

Could he not get an emergency passport for his Embassy interview and as soon as the old passport is returned he surrenders that one? Therefore he would only have one passport in his possession.

His passport is in effect 'lost' in the system while he's trying to get an extension on his student visa.

  6. Go up the apple & pears (stairs)

    Everything's going Pete Tong (wrong)

I'm goin down the battle cruiser for a couple of ice rinks!! (goin down the boozer (pub) for a couple of drinks)

He's a little Tea leaf (thief)

Oooh this could warrant another thread!! ha ha :star:

    Couldn't resist...

    Rosie Lee (tea)

Ohh i could go on! hehe

  7. Jenny,

Have you guys returned your P3 yet?

not yet. he is done with all the forms, he just needs his 2x2 photos, hes says he needs to send one in with pack 3. is this right? i didnt think so but he said yes. he cant get to a photo shop yet because he works looong hours n needs to wait til saturday. ugh! i want to send it in already!

He doesn't need to send a photo in with pkt3, just take them all to the interview.

Get the pkt sent NOW!! lol

  8. We will be filing later this week, just waiting for the final piece of info to come through.

Received everything back from Dr Arnold, although not having the TBT will wait to see if i have to get it done.

No wedding pics from us, we have the large wedding ceremony on 2nd May where we will have pictures taken. We went to the court house to get married and collared 2 unsuspecting ladies to be our witnesses!

  9. I know it's hard not to go ahead and purchase a ticket before the interview. I booked mine the day i got out of the embassy, really didn't want to gamble before i knew i was approved.

Exchange rates are changing and we're getting more $'s to the £ now, this is due to continue, so this will bring the flight costs down slightly.

  10. I contacted DMV about a NC drivers license.

They advised that i would need to re-take my road test and do a written test, but if i did this before AOS was completed license would only last the same time i had remaining on my I-94, i would then need to re-do the tests. But the good news is they would only charge $4.

So i'm going to wait until AOS has been completed then take the driving tests, don't fancy taking them twice, in NC i can drive on my UK license for 6months...thought it was 12 but never mind!

  11. Today is Green Card Day!! It arrived in the mail this afternoon.

    Summary of facts:

No RFEs the whole process from K1 to GC. Nice! .

Did not do an I-163 for immunizations. Submitted a copy of DS-3025 (which had all immunizations completed in UK).

Did not have a TB skin test, even though medical was after the June 1 cut-off date.

No interview because transferred to California Service Center.

USCIS website did not update and CRIS did not send email.

Elapsed time from putting that I-129F in the post to receiving GC in post: 1 year, 24 days

Total cost (applications, mailings, medical, travel/hotel London, shipping, etc): $5110.80 (yes, I am an Excel freak)

    UK AOS Progress Timeline

    Congratulations

  12. Now i eventually have a SSN (had to apply at 3 diff offices and email main SSO) I will apply for one.

ack! why? incompetence? or did you go too soon after your arrival in the states? (they say to wait 2 weeks/10 days.)

Waited the 10days like i was advised. Went into the smallish town near here, they said no. Went back the following day armed with all the info off here.

Told i would hear something within 10days, got a letter in the post saying NO! So went to a larger SSO near the big military base and re-applied.

Received another letter saying no as i was a K1 and not eligable. Someone on here said what i needed to do as in email the main SSO, he works for SS, and that worked they called me the next day to say my card was on its way!

But geez i was chasing my tail for 10days trying to get something sorted!!
