  1. Which state are you residing in?

You can apply for job from day one in the US, you just can't start working without the EAD(and SSN). So start applying while waiting for the SSN in the mail might be a way to take advantange of your time, same goes for studying the driver's manual.

Apply for SSN in the name that's on the EAD. If you changed your last name from maiden to married, then bring a marriage certificate as proof of name change. That, plus all the other required documents of course. When it arrives in mail, keep the envelope and the little slip with your name/adress on.

Getting a learner's permit you'll probably need the SSN. If you don't have a state ID yet then check and double check all the documents you need to bring. Rules vary from state to state. I had to bring passport with visa in, SSN, marriage certificate and a few letters with my name and adress on. I used the letters from USCIS and the envelope from SSA(allthough my process was different than yours, it's still probably the same things you'll need).

Again, the state matters when it comes to documents and requirements. Go to your local DMV/BMV webpage and figure out which ones apply to you.

We're in Florida..I thought when you apply for job you need to have SSN.I am reading and studying the manual already. My I-94 is way expired 4 years already, i hope the ssn and the EAD works without the greencard. thank you so much for your reply.

  2. You could have applied for the SSN 10-14 days after arriving in the US with a K-1 visa. Yes, you can use the EAD to apply for your SSN now. You need the EAD and SSN to be able to work while waiting for your green card to be approved.

Most states will allow you to get at a least a temporary drivers license with the EAD. Check on your state's requirements.

I did tried to apply for SSN but they didn't accept it,that was the timw we were still in Washington state. we moved and were in Florida now

is your timeline right? wow- that's a long time. sorry..

yes it is, job loss twice.. it was tough

  3. Did they ask you to include the rejection notice? If not, just remain calm. You were not rejected; your application was because you had errors or omitted something, now that uou have complied to all they requested, e calm. It will be okay. :)

No, it didn't say to include the notice in the notice. but i'm just worried because most of those people that got rejection notice sent it back along with the application. All i have to do is wait hopefully not the 2nd rejection notice..

don't worry. it takes time..... sometimes up to 19 days.... not getting something back again quickly is good.

thank you, i know it takes time but we wasted 3 weeks already because we got rejected the first time..

  4. It is very confusing just like most of the process. But my packet also had a green sheet stating to put it on top of my paperwork, when I returned it.

so have a check written out for $85.00 Biometric fee and copies of everything else in the notice.Plan to overnight everything back today.along with the case #

because the case number was not written on any of the paperwork they sent me. :bonk:

Hi there, just want to ask we got a rejection notice too but not with check, did you include your rejection notice back along with the paperworks? coz i forgot mine, i'm just really worried right now.. thank you

  5. I am worried again... this really sucks, we got our rejection notice last april 27 and now i got this feeling that there is something wrong again. we resubmit our application last april 28 and they got it april 30.. and now this is bothering me we haven't got any text/e-mail again.. i checked everything before we sent it back and comply all the requirements that they need but i forgot to include the rejection notice back to them coz i thought it's an applican't copy.would this be a problem? please let me know.. They even include green paper that says to put in the front of the application to flag them when they get it. Forgive me for being so freaky, but i do check other applicants timeline here on VJ. same day they got our papers on April 30th and 2-3 days after they got a notification right away and here we go again same as last time no notification from them again..ugghhhhh....does anyone here haven't receive notification/e-mail from them and just got the hard copy in the mail? this is killing me...i just want to get over with this thing, this might lead me to depression

I know every case is different but i can't help it.

  6. Hello guys,

I don't know how to start this.. I just wanna ask if anyone here had their adjustment of status after 2 years of marriage or more?? Can you please tell me what happened on your application? We wasn't able to file right away due to financial reason and job loss, can you please share your experience if anyone got situation as we do..thank you so much i really appreaciate it..

  7. hi guys.Just want to ask some question regarding Adjustment of Status. I got here in US:

    Date of Entry: Oct.8,2008

    Married : Oct. 11,2008

We wanted to file AOS as soon as posible but due to economic crisis, my husband is one of those people who got laid off from work after 2 months we got married. He got new job after four months then got laid off again. In short financially we aren't able to file.My question is : Is there any time frame to apply AOS? We are married for a year now, does anyone have the same situation as we do? Thank you very much I do appreciate some response. God bless

believe or not, the uscis says that people should file for AOS right away after getting married but they don't really indicate a limit as far as months, so it's alright that you apply whenever you can. the only risk is if you get into a situation where your status has to be checked 9ex, you and your husband are together and he's driving and he is pulled over and for some reason a cop asks for your valid IDs too and then discovers that you don't have a valid status (out of status actually), then that's when you get in trouble.

so as soon as you are able to financially afford it, apply for AOS

ty for reply,i got my state id though.lol.but yeah i know what you mean.We are planning to file asap,we got the money but no permanent address. we're planning to move as soon as my husband get his new job then we will file. your baby is so cute..

  8. ty for your reply..does anyone had the same situation as we do?

You're not alone - what happened to you guys has happened to others. When are you planning to file?

we're planning asap,as soon as my husband will have another job which is very soon..we we're hoping that economy will get better and hopefully no moew lay offs,it's been very hard to start a married life and during the first year was kinda bad luck for us lost 2 jobs for our first year.ty again

I think everyone understands what it means to walk those shoes - But, the longer you go out-of-status, the more chance of something going wrong. Don't ask me what, but you don't want to be in a position, for any reason, of having to prove your legal status in the US; particularly if you do not at least have your AOS pending at the time (which is what it would be when you file your AOS).

The best advice I could give you is to tell you to find a way to get the money for the AOS as soon as possible, borrow it if you have to. This is one thing not worth doing without and the sooner you do, the sooner YOU can enjoy the true benefits of being a Permanent Resident (i.e., work, drive, etc) and things will get better. Do whatever it takes.

I know that but come to think of it,He don't have job as of this moment we can't file yet coz they will ask about job and so on.plus we don't have permanent address right now and things like that.SO not much proof.

When he will get a new job we will move to another state,i'm kinda tired keep on moving..lol

  9. so you got married oct 08 or 09? You should have done it soon after the marriage if it was in 08. I am assuming you are talking about removing the conditions? if so you have some time...you apply 90 days before your 2 year anniversary (card expiration)

oct. 2008, we planned to do asap before but my husband lost his job after 2 months we got married and then the time he had new job he got laid off again.

  12. You don't have much choice but to file as soon as possible. You've married within the 90-day limit (from your arrival to the US) which is a good thing.

The steps you follow now are the same as you would had you filed a year or so ago. The Adjustment of Status Guide (K1 & K3 Visa Holders) has the relevant information you can follow.

  15. Hi there, it's been 8 months since my I-94 expired, money was the problem too.. and finally I'm filing mine tomorrow!! You're good sis, I have asked about this at every forum I could get on, it's ok if it'll be late than 90 days. They just recommend to file for AOS within that time frame for status wise. I have read somewhere that a couple haven't filed yet, and it's been a year already..

Hi, thank you so much for your reply. At least i have more info now. One thing that bothers me here is getting an SSN. SSA here in WA keep telling us that i am not allowed to get/apply for SSN , we should file for adjustment of status before we can get one. So stupid, I heared a lot of under K1 who have theirs after 2 weeks-1 month. Anyways, if that's what they want. I don't want to stress myself too much for that. You have a nice evening. God bless

  16. Hello guys, i have questions for those who already filed for AOS and for those who are in process or anyone who knows. IS there any time frame when to file adjustment of status? Is it really mandatory to apply it within the 90 days from entry here in US? or did anyone/anybody who applied more those 90 days. I admit the fact that money is the real hindrance to apply right away.we are still saving for it. Can anyone pls answer my question, i really appreciate it.Thank you and God bless.
