To update my case: I am back in Ecuador in accordance with the DHS letter. I was supposed to leave the country before January 14th, and I arrived here well before that date. I also obtained letters from my community and from the owner of the company I used to work for. By the way, the owner contacted two lawyers, and neither of them knew what to do—they told me to make my own decision.
During the year and eight months I was in the U.S. on my family reunification parole, I met good people. I enjoyed being with my mom and dad, and my job. Being in a small town, I used to know most of my customers, and I would help them when they needed it. I gathered these letters to show the immigration agent at my interview.
I know a judge delayed the case and blocked the January 14th deadline to leave the country, granting a 15-day extension, but I could not trust this situation. Based on what is going on in the U.S., I felt it was better for me to be here and wait to handle my case at the consular level. However, now I don't know if I need to let DHS know that I am here in Ecuador.
