  1. Hello all,

I was wondering if I should send real pictures or just photocopies of them.

I haven't taken many pictures with my husband (we haven't traveled in forever, low on cash, we're always together so we don't need pictures, etc) but I only have pictures of me and him at his university graduation ceremony.

    I hope that's okay *panic*

Thanks in advance, and Happy Holidays!

  2. 1) You have to send the form within the 90 days before your card expires. You can't send it after it expires. You can't send it earlier than 90 days. So send it, say, 85 days before your card expires.

    2) & 3) I'd think so, but I don't know the area or if anything has changed.

    4) Yes, 1 year after removal of conditions. So long as you are eligible (ie haven't been away from the US too much etcetc.)

Your card will expire before you receive your 10 year green card. They will send you a receipt that extends your green card for one more year. You will have to have this with you if you travel or need to renew your driver's licence or something.

Thanks for replying! Puts my heart at ease.

Another question, what happens if my card expires and I haven't had the interview yet (paperwork sent but no reply yet)?

Walking around with an expired card would make me feel rather nervous...

  3. Hello all,

I read the FAQ and I just wanted to make sure I understood this correctly.

    1) I have to send my form before 90 days to the expiration date of my card or else I'm screwed?

My card expires on 01/21/11, so I have about 90 days and 1-2 weeks left?

As long as I file my form before the 90 days, if my card expires before my interview date it's OK?

    2) The place for the biometrics exam should be the same one we went to for our green card (2 years ago)?

    3) There might not be an interview? If so, where would the interview take place?

Two years ago when I had the interview for green card/AOS approval, I had to go somewhere near Seattle, WA (I live in Vancouver, WA).

Will it be the same place?

    4) When do I apply for Naturalization?

On the FAQ it says 3 years after AOS, so basically after this Removal Condition, 1 more year to go?

    Thanks for reading!

  4. Hello all,

First of all, sorry if I posted this in the wrong section... Didn't really know where I could post this.

I was wondering if you need any special documents in prior to traveling after getting your Green Card (kind of like Advanced Parole).

I heard you need a Passport (I have a Canadian one, non-expired). Anything else? Like all my forms that I've filled and letters that I've received from DHS/USCIS? I have them all in a folder, so should I travel with them?

This is a road trip so it shouldn't be as strict as airport security (or not).

I went up to Canada 2 years ago with my husband (was then fiance), and when I entered the US (I'm Canadian) the officer asked me loads of questions

So anyways, can I travel/return to USA safely now since I have my green card? I will only be leaving for a few days.

    Thanks a bunch :star:

  5. Your daughter can be a co-sponsor if she has enough money. My fiance at that time was poor and his mother was the co-sponsor (I didn't need to worry about the poverty guideline thing because she makes enough profit).

Sorry I don't have information about how much money one does need to meet the co-sponsoring requirements.

Getting a co-sponsor is always a good idea especially if the main sponsor is in a tight spot. Hope I helped you!

  6. PS...i think my father in-law said that they were asking for form I130 but this is for a K3 visa isnt it??Not needed for AOS from K1?

Has anyone else had to file this? Are they getting mixed up?:thumbs:

It is weird that they are asking for an I-130. Maybe they are getting mixed up... when i sent in my package they sent me a RFE saying that I forgot to give something but I'm 200% sure I did. They probably lost it.

Just in case you should resend another I-130 (or a copy if you guys made copies of the whole form) and write on another piece of paper stating that you have already sent in your I-130 when you were dealing with the K3 Visa.

Did you send an I-864? Maybe they got confused between 864 and 130. anyways, send in the I-130 along with the RFE letter (unless I completely misunderstood, that you got a RFE instead of rejection).

    Good luck!

  7. Ah, stress is gone now :D

I'd have to say I was worried for nothing. It was really easy... As long you have the info and proof she wants, you will pass. We talked for a long time like 15 minutes? The lady was nice but also serious, and laughed at times.

Nobody took away my I-94 like people said... Maybe it's because I had already sent in photocopies of my I-94 when I first sent in my application for AOS.

So after a long talk about my relationship and stuff, she said that I would receive my green card in 4 weeks if everything goes well (I had some problems with my medical).

Does anyone remember Dr.Arnold in Texas that helps people fill out their I-693? He left out a very important block that he had to fill in. Geez... How'd that happen?! I was surprised when the interview officer said that I was missing stuff in my medical. So she's gona try to find the original medical envelop that I gave in to the officers at the airport/border when I came in as a K1.

If not well, I have to redo my medical.

Anywho~ Thanks for all your support, dear VJ members =)

    Good luck to you all!!!

  8. Apply for your SSN between 14 and 75 days after arrival. I would suggest to start gathering documents for your AOS now, so you will have more time to plan the wedding, spend time together, and adjust to your new environment after arriving.

What happens if you don't apply for a SSN between 14 and 75 days after arrival...? It's been MONTHS for me. I was off to Venus or something, I totally forgot to file for SSN, thinking that EAD will provide me with a SSN.

  9. I'm thinking of bringing our scrapbook and plastic folder for our upcoming interview. I'm using a 7 pocket file organizer folder that I bought from Walgreens.

Good stuff, I should go to Walgreens or Wal-Mart and take a look on those pocket organizers.

I originally had just 2 pocket folders STUFFFED with paper and files... bad idea huh.

I know where my papers are but to others it might look messy and confusing.

Do you have your interview soon too?

Thank you all for the replies! Makes me feel a lil more relieved =)

  10. 1) At the AOS interview, does my husband need the most recent copy (renew?) of his birth certificate?

    His birth certificate is old.

    2) Do I need to bring my sponsor's (not my husband, his mother) copies of her tax forms and such? I have already submitted that in the AOS forms when I started filling in...

What about her passport (proof of US citizenship)?

    Thanks for answering.

As the day comes closer to my interview date, I feel uneasy and questions just explode out of my head.

    1) Shouldn't it be as old as he is? :) I would bring whatever you have, if you have two copies, bring the both, what did you use to submit the application?

    2) I would take tax forms and all of that for the co-sponsor. I'm not sure if you have to take original passport to prove citizenship, but I would definitely take a copy.

    1) I guess so but where I live, whenever you do something that requires you to have a Birth cert, you always need an updated version of your birth certificate =/

    2) OK!

    Thanks for the reply~

  12. I have my interview on January 15 in Seattle!

The wait is gone. But stress still remains....

I was wondering if we were aloud to bring bags, phones, coats, etc to the interview? I remember when I was at my Montreal Consulate in Canada I wasn't aloud to bring anything but important documents.

This is making me so stressed and nervous already! One thing that worries me is that we didn't have a big wedding, wedding party nor wedding album :( We were low on budget and I didn't want to ask my husband's parents to pay everything for a wedding... We just had a really simple wedding at the city hall.

I wonder if that's an issue? *pulls out hair* I read that some interviewers didn't even ask to look at wedding pictures! That would be a relief for me if my interviewer didn't ask for an album...

    Thanks for all replies~

  13. YOU DO NOT NEED A POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE WHEN YOU ARE DOING AOS. You only need this when going through a embasy or consulate.
 Ditto, I was wondering about all the incorrect the responses.

AOS from a K-Visa doe not use police certs, only needed for the visa interview at the consulate.

That's what I thought so too.

Well I remember I've already gave in a copy (or original don't remember) or my police certificate when I was doing my K1 interview back in Canada. They keep everything you submitted so, NO you don't need another police certificate.

    Unless I'm wrong :o

  14. I'm in a weird situation here.

I've already had biometrics taken there in August 2008 (like 2 weeks ago) and there were no problems.

Recently I've received another appointment on September 9 which is on a Saturday! To my knowledge, offices open rarely on Saturdays. So I searched their business hours (USCIS Portland, Oregon) and they do not open on Saturdays.

I'm confused as they don't have a phone number. Shall I go there on Friday (tomorrow) to check on stuff? Or does anyone know their phone number? And no I don't need the USCIS customer service phone number, it's useless.

    Thanks :)

  15. Thanks for all your replies!

I wonder how things get lost when all your papers are sent in one mail

I am going to resend my NOA for I-129F, but how do I know if its the NOA1 or NOA2? I only received one NOA... And it starts with something like "The above petition has been approved. etc etc"

I will also include a little letter explaining my situation, thanks for the heads up Carla :D

Concerning my birth certificate, I'm actually from Quebec (French) and luckily I requested an English version of the certificate a few years ago heh, so no problems with that. USCIS prolly just lost it, gosh!

I also have an appointment for the biometrics on this Friday... I hope I won't be refused just because I got an RFE for my I-485 and my case got "paused".

I could have just called the service center to ask all these questions but their number was busy, I called their number countless times today. =( Not surprised.

    Hope things go well :bonk:

The Notice of Action that says approved is your NOA2. That's the one you copy and send.

Getting an RFE for things you've already sent is a common thing around here. I know it's frustrating, but you really don't have a choice but to send them again. Who knows HOW they get lost...it's one of those unsolved mysteries. ;)

Haha yeah, maybe they have a dog around their offices walking around and "eating their homework"!

Since I have the NOA2, what is NOA1 then?

Thanks for the quick reply, I'm going to send in my stuff tomorrow~

  17. So I've gotten an RFE for my I-485.

-It says I needed my Notice of Action from my I-129F (OK that's ok I'll just send them my photocopy...)

-It also says that I needed another Notice of Action from I-130. I NEVER filled a petition for alien relative... is that a big problem then? Or they just needed my NAC for I-129F?

-They wanted my birth certificate. I SWEAR I gave them my photocopy of birth certificate. Did they wanted my original one? I triple checked to see if I included a copy of my birth certificate and it was THERE. What's up with that? I guess I'm not in a position to argue because they still absolutely want one.

Thanks for your help... :star: I'm feeling a bit pissed off :( I hate this immigration process, I wish it could have been easier for everybody. And their "hotline" sucks.
