  1. And so it ends! :D

On Friday I was Naturalized in Philly, which finally ends my process with the USCIS. From filing to ceremony only took 3 months and 10 days I believe, very quick. The most painful part of the whole process was the very beginning when I had to return to England and my wife was in the USA, this was the spouse petition to come to America. That paperwork process took months, almost a year. However, I'm finally here and am an American. Perseverance is the key, which is extremely tough at times. My process started in 2007, and now I'm finally done. Thanks to all over that time for helping out and chatting on VJ with me; it helps a lot. Good luck to all going through the process.

  2. Just to add to my timeline to give everyone an idea of processing times:

Naturalization Interview - Wednesday 18th April (successful)

Oath Ceremony - Friday 27th April in Philadelphia, and that will conclude my 5/6 year paperwork experience with the USCIS.

Good luck to all going through this!

  3. Welcome Aboard Cornishman! Glad to have you. When was your package sent? What is your local office?

N-400 package was sent last week sometime, they received it on Jan 22nd; so I'm at the beginning of this process. Package was sent to the Dallas lockbox but my local office will be Philadelphia. Philly has been pretty speedy, or at least it seems that way - maybe I'm patient, so hopefully that trend continues. This is not such a big rush as the initial spouse visa filing was when I just wanted to get over here so I could be with my wife. As long as it get's done sometime within the year I'll be happy. Looking at average times should be around 4-6 months.

  4. I'm not sure if this applies to K3, but for K1 applicants, you don't need to get another medical exam. All you need to do is find a civil surgeon in the US who will fill out the I693A supplemental vaccination form. You have to bring proof of all of your vaccinations though.

I suggest calling around to all the USCIS approved civil surgeons in your area because they vary greatly in prices. We found one who would do it for only $35 but others wanted to charge $200!

    Thanks for the advice.

Does anyone know how to get hold of our original medical report done in London? Dont I need this to take to the civil surgeon? Otherwise how will they know about all the other stuff on the medical apart from the vaccinations? Was the medical report forwarded to someone, if so who?

It's all a bit confusing right now!

  5. Hi all!

I am now happy to be writing from the USA! It feels great to finally be over here. So here begins the first step of the next process for AOS. Oh boy!

We filed the paperwork for AOS earlier this week with our lawyer. So hopefully that has been sent off now.

What I would like to know is what happened to my medical paperwork from the medical I had in London just a couple of months ago? Was it in the packet that I had to give to US immigration when I entered the country last week? Can I get hold of that paperwork to forward it for the AOS medical, as it is good for a year? If so how do I do this?

Any help and advice will be greatly received.

    Thanks

    Dave

  6. Hi all!

Am just putting my paperwork together to send to the Embassy in London today.

I know I am not to sign DS-230 Part II but do I need to fill the rest of it out and send it today or do I hang onto it and take it with me on my interview day?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Dave

  7. HI!

On form DS-156K where is says marital status what should I put?

It states that you if you are presently married you are not eligible for a fiance visa. This form came as part of my K3 package, so I guess they are using the same for for K1 and K3.

So should I just leave it? Or fill in my wifes name and add that its for the K3.

Thanks for any help. Lots of paperwork to do!

  8. Thanks all!

    That is that question answered.

If we were not so pissed off with this whole process we would sit it out and go down the IR-1/CR-1 route as its not too much longer in the scheme of things. I also have to think about paying rent on my flat here in England as my job here finishes soon in preparation to coming over. So really I need to go asap so that means K3.

I guess I will have to live a life of leisure in the US for a few months and let my wife look after me!

    Thanks for your help.

    Dave

  9. Yeah I realise the benefits of the IR-1/CR-1 over the K3 visa but we are simply sick of being apart now. Also my wife is in England this summer and with the K3 timeline there is a very real possibility that I could fly back home to the States with her when she has to go back to work. I am wondering even though we are proceeding with the K3 do we still need to pay the AOS and IV Bill now online? And what is the IV Bill? I know about the AOS.

  10. Hey all!

    Quick question for you.

Our K3 petition is now at the Embassy in London being processed and our I-130 is at the NVC. Both got approved together by USCIS. I can see online that the AOS and IV Bill can now be paid. We are hoping to go down the K3 route as we simply want to be together soon as possible, so should we still pay the AOS and IV bill online now?

Dont want the I-130 to catch the K3 up in processing but realise the I-130 stuff needs to be done.

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers

    Dave

  11. Congratulations Hurryup! Same thing happened to us at Vermont about a week and a half ago. We had been waiting a long time too - our petitions must have been filed close together. Enjoy the stress release that the approval is and get your documents ready for the next step. Even though we are K3 I am getting everything ready that is needed for the I-130 as processing of this seems pretty quick at NVC if you follow lotofpatience steps posted on this site.

Good luck and great to see approvals (OF ANY VISA PETITION)!!!!!

  12. Hi Dave,

You only need one certificate to cover all of the UK and you get it from ACRO.

You will need a passport photo signed by someone of the list they give you and some proof of address.

This is the link .... they're pretty cool, mine arrived last Thursday and even has your photo on it.

All the information needed is in the link.

ps, if you've got the I-130 approved, I'd suggest you run with it ..... if you bang on with Lotopatience's shortcuts for NVC you'll be done in 4-6 weeks and I understand the interviews are quite quick out of London following that ..... you'll then have a greencard.

Sarah - thanks for the info. You are quick as ever to help and I really appreciate it. I have been to the site, downloaded the forms, got my passport style photos done and am ready to go.

    Thanks again.

    Dave
