  1. To my surpirse, they did actually send me another email saying that since he already has a K-3 visa they would try to have it ready for us on Friday, since Thursday will be a holiday. So that will minimize our hotel costs to 3 nights, which is better than originally though!

And that standard answer they send is pretty accurate

I would say that you are a lawful resident, but hey - that's just me, I would write back to them and ask for clarification.

  2. Ok, so we have our long awaited interview appt. for Montreal in November now, and started researching the cost of the trip there... Ouch!

So, now it's got me wondering if there's any possibility of Montreal transfering the file to my local USCIS office and processing it like an Adjustment of Status? Just seems crazy to have to to go to Montreal when my hubby already has his K-3 visa, his EAD, Social Security card and a Calif. Driver's License....

It would almost be cheaper to ditch the I-130 in MOntreal and start over with an AOS here, but It would be WAY too much work at this point. Maybe I'm just dreaming and rambling, but for the two of us to go to Montreal is about 2 grand.

  3. So, I emailed them and got a "standard automated response" which kind of answers our question. He has a K-3 visa already, his EAD, his SS card and a Calif. drivers license already, so would that be considered a "lawful resident"?

Q11: Can I pick up the visa the same day?

A: Because of the administrative processing associated with visa issuance, it is extremely difficult to issue visas on the same day of the interview. Instead, most visas, along with the necessary supporting documents, are mailed back to applicants within one week of visa approval, using the 12" x 15" Canada Post Xpresspost envelope supplied by the visa applicant. These envelopes must be mailed to a Canadian address. If you are already a lawful resident of the United States (on a valid work visa, for example), the visa can be picked up the next business day, at noon.

Why don't you e-mail the embassy and ask them? They are always very helpful and prompt at returning e-mails

    Good luck.

  4. My husband is here with me in the United States on K-3 visa has his work authorization already and finally we have an interview date in Montreal for November 25th. We are going to fly and stay in Montreal, our concern is how long the processing time will be if we stay to pick it up in person so that he can return to the US with myself.

We plan to stay for a week, the 24th to dec 2nd in montreal, thursday the consulate will be closed due to thanksgiving, do you think this will give us enough time for the passport to be processed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as if it will take longer we will just fly up and I will return which I do not really want to do and he will have to go to his hometown to wait for the passport to be done.

  5. We got our email yesterday that we have a Montreal Interview Appt. on Nov. 25! Guess we will miss Thanksgiving in the US! :star:

    Hi

My Case case was completed and sent to Montreal on 15th June, I read that it takes max 4 months to get interview and was so hoping

to get my interview on Oct, that didn't happen. Anyways hoping to get some good luck for November.

Anyone here going thru the same situation ??

Yes. It took 144 days for us to get an interview date (completed June 4th, interview October 26th). You will almost certainly be November. But the waiting is endless . . .

Congrats steve, and thanks for your reply... hope i am lucky for november.

Received Email from NVC yday, atlast i got interview for Nov 12 "Thanks to God"

Now More help please My hubby is a US Citizen and I have my interview next month at montreal for CR1 Visa... can anyone tell me

what questions will be asked ????

    Thanks.

Thanks all for your kind response & help.

  6. You cannot apply for a K-3 visa until you are legally divorced. You will need to include copies of your divorce papers with your K-3 visa application. Once you are legally divorced you can marry in the states and go back to Canada and have your spouse petition for you to come to the US (K-3).

Ah, I can't find a way to edit my post? But I forgot to mention that I am in the process of a divorce. My ex was abusive and moved out before I got involved with my fiance, the divorce just wasn't/isn't final yet. Should be finished in about three months (both the two months of processing and the 30 days you have to be divorced before you can remarry). My apologies for not mentioning this at first.
  7. Our case was completed at NVC on June 24 and we still don't have an appt. for Montreal. Hoping maybe they will get us in for October....

Man, it's starting to be a real bummer about Montreal and the CR1s... they haven't scheduled anyone for an interview for September and there are people waiting from June. It's really frustrating -- has this happened before?

Anyway guys... sorry to rant but our little timeline thread is waaaaaaay back there because no one in Canada (on VJ anyway) doing a CR1 is getting an interview.

    Off for a vacation now...

    Happy Labour day all!

    :)

  8. You would have to go to Vancouver if you are in Western Canada... It's a pain, but they are super nice there.

    :star:

I was wondering, is there only one office in Western Canada that you can get your medical done at now??? I noticed on one of the documents I came across that there were offices in Calgary and Edmonton (which are both close to me!) but they don't appear to be an option any more... does anyone know if this is the case??? Thanks!

Yeah in Octoberish of last year a bunch of them closed down so now the only ones are in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. Its a pain I know, the one in Ottawa is gone too and I would have rather went there.

  9. We just got our email on 8/4 that card production was ordered. They received our I-765 on June 22; So it was 43 days to card production. Waiting for it in the mail now.

i've filed I-765 already. about how long after the biometrics appointment can i expect to have my EAD card in hand? or does the biometrics date not matter? i'm just so anxious to start work. i have no idea if i should start looking for a job now or wait. appreciate any input.
  10. My husband just received his biometrics letter with an appointment date of july 25. We have been reading that others have done a walk in successfully to get it earlier. We would like to try this, but wondering what to say when we arrive at the biometrics office? If anyone else has tried this successfully, can you help with what we would say we are there for, because obviously we know that the appointment is 3 weeks away.

    Thanks!

  11. Case completed at NVC on June 24, 2009.... yeah!

  12. Thank you! What state did you move to? My hubby is here now... POE at Winnipeg. He had a guy that was a little rude, but mostly smooth going at the border. He is going for an info pass appt. today to see if we can get his EAD before we go for the CR1 in Montreal.

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I am so happy for you too. I was too busy crossing, the border, getting married and moving to Indianapolis to congratulate earlier.

As I said the border crossing experience was very smooth, also I applied for SSN number today and the people everywhere are so nice. So enjoy each other, the worst is behind you.

  13. :dance::dance::dance:

Wow... My hubby had his K-3 interview on May 19 and they kept his passport and told us he was in AP.

I just now got an approval letter from the Vancouver Consulate saying:

"We have processed your husband's visa and will ship it out today. Your Canada Post's tracking # is XXXXX"

That's an approval right???? They would have said something if they were denying it or just sending back his passport... Right??

    WOW this is surreal.

  14. Nothing in this process seems to be fair... We all wait with no answers just dangling from their string. It's frustrating to say the least!

    :crying:

    Hello Dear VJ Members,

I have been reading the posts for a while now and this is my first post. First a little background of my situation. I met my fiancee when she was an International student in the US. She had her F-1 visa and was in good standing. Then in December 07 she decided to go visit her mom for Christmas vacations in Cameroon. She was already registered for Spring 2008, had her class schedule, got her I-20 signed by her school, and flew home. She was supposed to come back January 22nd, 2008.

She then went to the US embassy to renew her student visa to come back and, to my shock, she got denied and she's stuck there since. She had surgery in the summer of 2007 and didn't even finish the follow-ups with her ob/gyn. We then started the K-1 process, got approved, and she finally got her interview 5/18/2009.

The interview went well. The CO said everything looks great and in order. Nothing to worry about. Then handed her the 212(g) for AP. He kept her passport, and told her to call back in three months if she doesn't hear from them.

My point here is that a US Citzen trying to bring a loved one should not be treated this way. In this country of freedom, it is unacceptable that one gets told that his/her fiance(e) is put in AP and no one even knows what that entails. It is like a "national security secret". I asked them what the AP entails and they said they couldn't tell. I read so many heartbreaking stories here and I am asking people here to organize and put pressure on their representatives (senators and congressmen). We need to pull the alarm bell here.

I have an MBA, have a good job with a good salary. No record at all. Trying to be a good citizen. So why should we have to be treated this way????

I was supposed to be deployed by the US Navy on 5/26/2009 (being in the Reserve). I sent my deployment papers to the embassy and begged them to take it into consideration but they simply ignored it. They don't care. They don't think there are real lives behind those paperworks. And people are suffering from those long separations and all the stress they go through. No one person (a CO) should have that much power to decide peoples' faiths.

There are hundreds or thousands of people here on VJ. Let's do something. Let's create a forum and get our contacts then collectively write the appropriate committees in congress and the senate.

God bless you all and keep your heads up and don't give up on your loved ones. No matter how long it will take.

  15. Bump! Just hoping someone can help...

I emailed them last week and again this week. Both times I got the same answer... Hopefully we will have something for you by Friday. Good thing I'm not holding my breath!

I would try and email too, hopefully it's not one of those silly automated responses that gets sent to you. Maybe a fax would help too? Always an option...Staples sends faxes all over for you.

    Good luck!

  17. Thanks for the reply... We left them with the xpresspost envelope and have been tracking it daily.... of course it hasn't moved. I tried calling the phone number and it's all recorded info... no options to talk to a person. They do give a 900 number to call if you want to pay by the minute to talk to someone. That may be my only option I guess. Crazy!!!

    :crying:

Oh wow....that's a LONG wait!!! I was told after my interview "about a week". Did you bring along a trackable envelope? (For my visa I had to) If so, check the tracking number online, that's why I did.

This is the information I found online...I don't know if it's the right info, but it's worth a shot calling, or even faxing?

    (604) 685-4311 Phone

    (604) 685-7175 Fax

Also it states you can email or fax about passports: Passports - vancouverACS@state.gov

    http://www.consular.canada.usembassy.gov/vancouver.asp

    Hope that helps!

  18. Does anyone know how I can phone to talk to a Supervisor at the Vancouver Consulate? We still have not received my husbands passport back or visa after his May 19 interview. I have emailed them and each time they say "hopefully we can give you more information by the end of the week" NOT COOL! How long can they keep his passport and just keep us hanging???:wacko::wacko:

  19. Congrats to you both!!! Good luck with the rest of your journey!

    :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Walked out of the Vancouver consulate with the VISA in my hand and the sealed envelope that says DO NOT OPEN!! All very relieving after being extrememly exhausted and freaking out with the interview on Tuesday, medical on Wednesday and an interviewer who was not at all pleasant!!!

Anyways I am waiting for my flight back home and I think this calls for a few hhhummhumm *cough*....beverages....!! I was ALL smiles after 2:45pm this afternoon!! Nothing is going to bring me down!

Now to start planning the final details of the wedding that is coming up sooner than later!!:D:dance::jest:

    Congratulations.

  20. Hey there,

Congrats to both of you for getting through your medicals! Minnew, did you pick up your visa or are they mailing it to you?

    Kim

I was about 2 people after you, they called me and then I asked them to call Sonja so she could come with us. That was a bust though as the car broken down - alternator I think? Well, she was about half ways closer to the airport than from downtown. Yes, that is one HUGE envelope!

    Good luck with everything else!

    Janet
