  1. I'm fairly certain that you are required to carry the greencard with you at all times because it's the only that shows you are in the country legally if asked whether or not you are a US Citizen. One of my co-workers is from New Zealand and he said was told to always carry his.

And we were watching Border Wars the other night, and they said the same thing - always carry it.

p.s. Excellent idea on the color copy! I did that with my passport and I also keep a picture of it on my cellphone in case I lose it when travelling.

  2. We cross at Sumas nearly every weekend, but like you said it's not worth the drive to go that far. Never had any problems at Aldergrove but have only crossed there maybe 4 times. My hubby has come down thru Peach Arch a few times (me only once) and he's never complained about them there. I think he's given the hardest time at the Sumas crossing than the other ones, there are some real grumps working that one. We just smile and be pleasant!

  3. The 2nd time was suspicion of immigrant intent because I was married to a USC (obviously! We had started the Cr-1 process and they could tell before I told them we had filed). I didn't try after that because no piont in trying to cross as a non-immigrant when you've been labeled as having immigrant intent.

We were talking about this the other day, whether or not the border people know you had filed for a visa (i.e. IR1/CR1) without you telling them. My hubby comes down from Canada about once a month and always says he's just going shopping for the day, doesn't carry a bag with him, and they have never brought up the fact that he's filed for a visa. Just curious if anybody knows for sure...

  4. So we got our interview for Dec. 20th and plane tickets are ridiculous out of Vancouver, BC. - $1100 each and from Seattle to VT are half that. So we are thinking about flying from Seattle to Burlington, Vermont and driving the 2 hours up to Montreal. Since he will have to surrender his passport at the interview, can he use his BC EDL to get back into the states when we drive back down to Vermont? He says he read that you could, but I want to make sure.

Has anyone else done it this way or have you all flown within Canada for the interview process?

  5. i cross nearly every weekend into Canada to see my husband and always just say I am visiting family. If they ask who, I say my husband, his mom, etc... I always add more family members to the mix to make it seem like a get-together. They know I always come up on Friday and leave on Sunday and have even stopped asking for the travel consent letter for my son who goes with me.

I only got pulled over one time when I forgot to take off my old Oregon plates and put on my new Washington ones (the DMV showed the OR ones were old). I have seen the border guys take an entire load of neatly stacked 2x4's out of a guys truck and just throw them all back in when they are done. The guy had to take them all back out again and re-stack them before he could drive off.

Definitely take pay stubs with you, rental/lease agreement or house payment bill, cable bill, etc...just in case - it shows you will be back to the states at the end of your visit. Always look at the border/customs officer, give short, direct and honest answers, and don't play with your hair, chew your nails, bite your lip, etc...no reason to be nervous but it will show if you are.

  6. There's a girl who works at our office, she's 28, and she has the absolute worst work ethic. She comes in late 19 out of 20 days, never apologizes for it even if it means she has kept everyone waiting for the morning meeting to start. Today she was 10 minutes late, spent the first 45 minutes she was here chatting with another girl in the office, ran a personal errand at 10 to get some food, then at 11:30am called out that she was going into the spare office to take a nap and to let her know when it was 12 for lunch. Then came back from working-out at lunch at 1pm, ate lunch for 1/2 an hour (it's now 1:30) and said she wished she could leave early today to give her dog a bath and go to her boyfriends house. Turns out the boss is leaving at 3pm, so I'm sure she'll be running out the door as soon as he does.

A couple months ago she slept in and never called to let us know she'd be late. Her best friend and boyfriend called looking for her, I tried her cell and she never answered or replied to texts. So we started to get really worried about her. Finally got a hold of her sister who went to her bedroom and woke her up at 11am. She called me and said she'd be right in, then didn't show till 1:30pm.

About 6 months ago I lent her a shirt of mine and have not gotten it back though I asked for it several times. She never apologized for misplacing it and never even mentioned it without me asking about it. I figure she'll show up to work wearing it one day.

This ####### has been going on for nearly two years now and our boss just puts up with it because he's busy in his office chatting away on Yahoo messenger.

  7. any updates on interview dates

Wondering the same. I can't believe only of one us heard - and on a Saturday, I don't remember that happening before (anybody know if somebody has received their IR/CRI interview date email on a Saturday?). Makes me think because of the holiday tomorrow, they started scheduling early and are maybe done now. Even though the NVC told AB2CO they would be scheduling into next week. And looking at the spreadsheet they don't seem to schedule dates after December 18th (of 2008, 2009).

I'm thinking we'll have to wait another month.

  8. Wait a second. I never knew of this. On that website you linked right there, it says you need to APPLY for an interview? You do not just get given one after waiting? Please don't tell me I've been waiting two months after the NVC receiving my final forms for nothing. I never read anywhere that you had to apply for an interview at the Montreal Consulate. I thought you were just eventually told a date.

Oh. My God. Please someone help. Please tell me I'm not doing this wrong and I've waited for nothing. I haven't received an RFE yet either. So thats good, right?

(Doing CR-1, DS-230 + rest of stuff August 25th. They received it August 27th)

You haven't waited for nothing and you aren't doing anything wrong. For IR1/CR1 cases we still wait for an assigned interview date from the consulate and there's nothing you can do to move it along faster. The K1's can now schedule their own interview dates via the website after they are told to do so and the CR1/IR1's can change their interview date if need be via the website, but that's it.

  9. Does this mean that there will be no interviews scheduled for December now ?

According to Trailmix's spreadsheet and the last person I spoke to at the NVC (the nice one who actually said she hoped we get an interview date soon), they do schedule some for December. Here's hoping they finish off the June case completes!

  10. I was afraid that was going to happen and I just don't get it. How could they only get 1/2 way thru the case completes from June? And it doesn't look like they schedule alot of interviews in December (thanks Trailmix for sending me the old spreadsheet showing '07-'08 interviews!), probably because of the holidays. I thought giving this process a year from the date we sent in the I-130 was going to be more than enough - boy, was I wrong!

    Grrrrrr...

  11. Hi all - I have been watching this thread for several months now and finally registered. I'll try to add our official timeline later although we are already in the spreadsheet. We are a June 17 case complete and just called NVC. There was no interview scheduled on their file and we were told that they schedule the second week of the month (today being the last day).

Frankly, I am worried those of us still waiting with June case completes will need to wait until December. If anyone has any information on whether the interviews have been handed out, or whether there is still some hope they are handing out interviews, we are very eager to hear.

    Many thanks,

    Rugga

I also called in this morning and was told no interview had been scheduled for us yet but that they weren't done scheduling for November yet. She followed that up by saying she 'hopes we get an interview date soon' and I of course said 'me too'! But like you, am also nervous we are looking at December.

  12. Do they schedule interviews for December? Or it goes from November to January?

Good question - I sure hope they schedule interviews in December. Checked the current spreadsheet but it only goes back to January. And I remember someone saying earlier today that if they had to reschedule, the next available date was in January. Am nervous we haven't gotten our interview scheduled for November yet with a June case complete - there's a couple of us still waiting to hear this week...
