  1. In the U.S. married women can keep their maiden name, so there is no problem with you having a different last name from your husband. As for the three social security cards per year, I believe this is for replacement cards (lost, worn, etc) and not for necessary reasons, such as name change or change of status.

  2. We interviewed in February 2010 and the officer was about to approve us when she noticed the medical exam was missing. Got an RFE for medical exam. Submitted another one on March 10, 2010 and we are in a black hole. We have heard nothing at all. Filed a service request which was sent to Texas Service Center and it came back that they didn't have our file. Called USCIS and they said the file was in another state and asked US why WE sent it there. ??? Called again and they said, oh, your case IS at the Texas Service Center (where the original service request went and we got the reply that they didn't have it) and they sent another service request to TSC. So far no reply. What the heck is going on?

  3. I'm wondering why you didn't send copies instead of originals? Unless they have changed something, you can send copies (and they even recommend it) and show the originals at your interview. USCIS loses stuff all the time. No surprise there. And we didn't have our interview for K3 until one month after our one year wedding anniversary (This is average from what I see). So just hang in there, it's a long process filled with frustration. And next time, send copies if they are acceptable.

  4. Same thing just happened to us. We had the AOS interview (from a K3), they lost the medical exam, we submitted another medical and heard nothing back. We filed a service request to find out what is going on and we get the same letter you did, that they have no record of our application/petition! How can that get lost in the system when we have gone so far as the AOS interview??

  5. We put our documents in clear expandable folders and manilla folders in that with labels. I put them in order of when I thought they would be needed (things asked for first up front, etc, back-up documents probably not needed in the back). We had two packed expandable folders. However, they didn't look at any of our evidence, even when I offered. :-P

  6. My husband is from Iran and he didn't get AP at all yet. He is in the U.S. with me now waiting for his conditional green card (maybe they are doing the background checks now?). However, he was living in Canada on a student visa when we applied for his K3. I don't know if that made a difference or not, but the lady at the embassy in Montreal grilled him for a long time about his student visa and his status in Canada. I know that other Iranians who interviewed around the same time as my husband (not in Canada) were not given AP either. I don't know what criteria they go by, if any. It may just be random. The best thing is to just plan on the AP just in case, and if you don't get AP, then you haven't lost anything and it's a pleasant surprise. :-)

  7. Contact the place where she got her vaccinations and see if they will fax a copy of the immunizations she received. My husband did not receive a copy of his either. Since she requires more vaccines, I would think she will need this so that the surgeon knows what she has left. I wouldn't have them fill out the I-693 vaccination portion until she has had all vaccines required for AOS.

Ok ive done so much research and I just don't get it.

My wife came to the US with a K1 fiance visa from the Philippines.

I read that since she's had her medical at prior, we do not need the I-693 but only the supplement I-693A.

Upon arrival to the States, all she has from St Lukes Hospital is a single CD labeled chest radiograph and with the text, " Please bring this x-ray CD to the US for medical follow-up at the Health Department.

I call many civil surgeons in my area and most do not know about 693A. I finally goto one and they want me to fill out a normal I-693 but the doctor would cross out the irrelevant since my wife already had a full medical.

Here is the problem, the doctor of course wants proof of the immunization and vaccinations. We have none. St Luke's did not provide any and only gave a CD. According to my wife, the staff member at St Lukes told her they would send all to the embassy.

What should I do? Do i need to have someone goto st. lukes in the philippines and find her immunization record? or do i disregard including the 693A since st lukes said they sent everything to the embassy? i am so lost.

Secondary note, the I-693A i pulled from ins gov site is supposedly outdated and no longer used according to the doctor thus the recomendation of using the normal I-693.

Third note, st lukes did not complete the cervical vaccination and we need 2 more shots that cost an insane amount plus influenza shot.

any insights? help? what is my best course of action.

this is long and i thank whoever reads and comments. god bless

  8. Don't worry, you do not need to do the medical again. It should all be in the sealed envelope you handed over to customs. I called USCIS today about the vaccination supplement and she said for K3 you do not need to submit the vaccination supplement since everything was completed during the medical before entering the U.S. and should be included with the medical forms in the sealed envelope. The vaccination supplement is for K1 visa holders applying for adjustment of status, not K3. Well, we will see what happens as I am mailing in my AOS paperwork this week without the supplement and we'll see if we get RFE.

K3 is a multiple entry visa and you will not be considered as having abandoned your AOS. The USCIS website has some good info on this particular subject.

  9. My frustration= hubby changing his ticket again. UGH! I hate expecting that he's going to come and then him telling me he's going to change it because he needs more time too wrap up things with work. Now he's coming a week later. I know he misses me, I know he's stressed, and I'm not whiny, and I'm being understanding, I'm just frustrated. ~M

It's hard, but be patient. The last week or two before my hubby was to come here, he was stressing out a lot. I guess it doesn't hit them they are leaving everything until that time comes. The only difference being that instead of wanting to take an extra week, he wanted to come NOW. lol... He almost came on his own without me and without telling me. We had agreed I would fly in with him. Thankfully he didn't do that and now he said he's glad he didn't because he would have been so lost going through customs, security, and navigating the airports.

  10. if he already submitted his I-693 or vaccination record ,then they wont look for that.but, with my case, they gave me a copy of my vaccination record, it wasnt sealed,it was a regular paper. during my interview, i wasnt asked for that...

So you did not send in the vaccination record with your I485 paperwork?

Most of the discussion seems to be on AOS from a K1, but we are adjusting from a K3. On the I485 instructions, it mentions K1 visa holders submitting the vaccination supplement, but there is no mention of a specific instruction like this for the K3. I would like to hear from others who have adjusted status from a K3 and whether or not the vaccination supplement was required, mainly because they did not give my husband one with the sealed medical envelope.

    Thanks!

Everything is the same as a K1 accept no need AP.

On the I485 instructions, it mentions for the K1, but not for the K3, concerning the vaccination supplement. So I'm wondering what does the K3 applicant need to send, if anything at all. There does seem to be some difference.

  12. The typewriter tool does not work in the fillable portions of the form.

    First go to http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/g-325a.pdf

Click on File (at the top-left window side)

Click on Save As.. (Adobe PDF files)

Then open file on your computer using Adobe Reader 9.0

Adobe Reader has a tool call typewriter!

    Open your g-325a.pdf file

    click on Tools

    drag the mouse to Typewriter

    click on Show Typewriter Toolbar

that tool allows you to write over any part of the form

and you can change the size of the text , spaces and font.

If you have any questions you can reply me! good luck!!!

  13. Thanks for the answers. However, he has never been to the U.S. so the "when" doesn't matter. ;-) Just wondering if I put Ottawa or New Jersey since he will actually activate the visa at customs in Ottawa at the airport.

Put down Ottawa, that is what I did and there was no problem with that.

Ignore my previoius response it was posibly not right for the situation, ottawa is good as a point of entry but I have no clue as to what is wanted in the forms you are preparing.

I am filling out the adjustment of status form. :star:

  14. Ugh, I've gotten really nervous all of the sudden about this stuff.

I hate having to explain on the paperwork why I was denied at the border.

I mean, I'm sure lots of people get denied for not having the right visa like I did to go to the US, marry and adjust status... but I still freak about it anyway.

I know previous denials don't affect it, and now I'm actually doing it right, but I still get so scared about it.

I keep reading my removal notice over and over to see what it says.

Does anyone know if what's on the paper is the only thing in the computer about the POE denial?

I'm curious to know if the first POE officer types stuff into the computer that you didn't get to know about and sign about.

Whatever you told the POE officer will probably be in the computer file for your denial. As long as you weren't doing anything wrong, you are OK. Just be honest at the interview if they ask what it was all about and you will be OK. I don't know your particular case, but if you have any documents that show proof of what happened, then I would bring those, just in case. You might need to back up that what you are saying is the truth.

  16. Hi Mandy. If I can, I would like to offer input, although my husband is not a MENA man. With that being said, I don't think this is a MENA man issue so much as it is a MAN issue...Even so, there are several things in your post that have me concerned about the validity of his feelings for you...and clearly, you might be feeling the same way, or there would be no need for this post. One of the biggest red flags that I see is the excuses your SO has seemed to come up w/ as to why you can't be together. I can understand that he does not want to move here to the states and would possibly like to live in Europe or his home country, but what man, that truly loves you and adores you and your family, would turn down the opportunity for you to join him whereever he is? I know that if I told my husband that I would be willing to move to Jamaica tomorrow he would be grinning like a cheshire cat! And the fact that he is telling you that it's "ok" if you find another man in the states--really? He's virtually giving you permission to do what you want to do? Now I come in the MENA forum from time to time to look around, and I can tell you that this certainly doesn't sound like a man who truly loves you and who is truly committed to you. Hell, any man who says it's ok for his wife or SO to go be with another man is obviously doing his own thing so it doesn't matter to him what you do, and there is no real substance to this relationship. IAnd the fact that noone that he cares about and loves knows about you says to me that he is hiding you from them for whatever reason. IMO, I don't think that he sees this relationship going anywhere. While he may like you, you said so yourself, he has not admitted to loving you--and there is no way your relationship can progress any further if you two are not on the same page. I could be wrong, and I pray to God that I am, so if you do go to Morrocco I think that you two need to have MANY SERIOUS conversations about his true feelings and intent...and where he sees this whole thing going. I would hate for you to put any more time, energy, and emotion into someone who is not willing to do the same for you. You deserve better than that. I am sorry if I sound harsh. I just want you to be careful. (L)

Well, we shouldn't lump all MENA men or even all men together, as each one is different, but my experience was that two weeks after my husband and I met online he was already telling me not to see other men. I told him he was crazy, but I was very flattered. In my experience with men in general, if they are really crazy about you, they will not want to share you with other men, that's for sure.

  17. OK and another question. :-P Looking at the I-485 and it asks for place of last entry into the U.S. Since he will be processed at the airport in Ottawa, do I put Ottawa (which is not the U.S. but it was I guess his entry?) or the next stop on our itinerary (which is Newark, New Jersey, but he won't be doing customs there, only in Ottawa). This is kind of confusing. Does anyone know?

  18. Hello everyone! This weekend my husband finally comes home. :-) Since the tickets were kind of last minute, I had a hard time getting seats for us together. I'm hoping someone on the flight will trade with us. But my seat is right behind his, so if not, that's not too bad.

My hubby is coming home on the same day!! whooo!!!! 6 more days girl!
