  1. Yes, I've been told to watch Not Without My Daughter too...by my own family! They are convinced he will isolate me from my family and friends and abuse me. And someone at work said "how do you know he's not a terrorist?" LOL. And of course they all say don't go to Iran! And then I got, oh he's Persian? So he's from Persia?

  3. Rahma,

I checked out that link for Halal Chinese you marked. I found all my favorite places on it PLUS a few extras! YAY! I will be making visits this week! :D Thanks! (F)

I also checked out that link and it was great! It gave me a list of restaurants I didn't know about in my area. :-) I especially like the reviews that people give for the restaurants. Very helpful.

  4. Oh and speaking of cookies...I made some poppy seed cookies last week. Found the recipe in a spice catalog. I can tell you the dough was most excellent. :star: Took the excess cookies to work and everyone absolutely loved them. If anyone is interested in the recipe, let me know and I'll post it!

That's a great idea! I'd love the recipe. I was going to make some tea cookies with cardamom, but I decided to do the good old fashioned chocolate chip...(it was easier) :innocent:

    Here is the recipe:

    Poppy Seed Cookies

    1 Cup butter, softened

    3/4 Cup sugar

    1 egg

    1 tsp Vanilla Extract

    2 Cups all-purpose flour

1/2 Cup finely ground almonds (note: I used almond flour)

1/2 Cup Poppy Seeds (note: I bought a 3.6oz jar in the spice section and used almost the whole thing)

    1/4 tsp salt

    Colored sugar, if desired

Cream the butter. Add the sugar, egg, and vanilla and mix well. In a

separate bowl, mix together the flour, almonds, poppy seeds, and salt.

Gradually add to the butter mixture and beat well. Divide the dough

in half and roll into logs. Roll the logs in colored sugar if desired

(I did this step after chilling the logs). Wrap in waxed paper (I

used cling wrap) and chill for a few hours. Preheat oven to 325F.

Slice the logs about 1/4 inch thick and bake for about 12 minutes or

until the edges start to brown.

    Yield: 42 - 50 cookies.

MY NOTES: Maybe it's just my oven, but I had to raise the temp to 350

and baked for about 17 minutes to get the edges to just start to brown.

You don't want to overcook these and do as the recipe suggests - take

out once the edges start to brown.

  6. Good morning everyone. Thankfully I am on vacation this week. The plan was to take my kids to visit my parents (who live in another state), but my son got sick. :-( So looks like we will be traveling on Christmas day. Long story. LOL.

It seems like my husband only eats Persian food or pizza. LOL. I can't wait to get him here so I can get him to try different foods!

  7. Hi everyone! I'm kinda new here. We just filed our petitions. I'm in the same boat as Amal. It got up to 79F where I am in Texas today! :-) However, I don't like snow and I'm glad it's warm. I'll be heading to Canada in a few weeks to see my hubby, so I will get plenty of snow then. :-(

    Welcome (F)

    Thank you! :-)

  9. Take it from someone who was in an emotionally abusive and adulterous marriage for WAY too long...it will only get worse. I tried for many years to fix my marriage, going to lengths such as the ones you are going to, with no success and always feeling worse and worse about myself. When you said you always walk on eggshells that really hit home for me, because that is how I felt for our entire marriage. I stayed for my kids, but ultimately ended up hurting them more in the process. My advice is to grasp onto what little self esteem you have left and walk away from this abusive man before he completely destroys your spirit and your happiness. No one deserves to go through these things. This is a problem with HIM and only HE can fix it...nothing you ever do will be able to fix it for him. You WILL find love again, and you will find it with someone who loves you just as much as you love him, and who fulfills you as much as you fulfill him! I was alone for 7 years. It was discouraging at times, but ultimately I found the love of my life. Keep your head up and be strong! So sorry you have to experience this. You are in my prayers...

I agree with what everyone is saying here. You are in an abusive relationship. There is nothing wrong with you. The problem is with him. Get out while you can and before the abuse gets even worse. Yes, it's a shame that you went through all that trouble to marry him and not listening to the advice of your family, but it's not worth it to stay in an abusive relationship that will destroy you mentally, and later on probably physically. Everything he is telling you about you and your sex life is not true and is just an excuse to make himself feel better about abusing you, because in his mind, it's your fault he is treating you so badly. This is a classic abusive relationship. If you are still not sure after reading the comments here, I strongly urge you to go to a counselor or therapist if you can and get professional advice. Be strong. Good luck.
