Congratulations to all the recent passport request recipients. I'm glad to see things actually moving again. Does anyone know if it is possible to complete the second medical before the request? I know it's generally not advised due to the time constraints but I feel we're very close to the request as well (April 2023 interview) so it would be nice to have that done and ready to submit.

Can you post a timeline for the updates you received leading up to the request?

Hi guys just wanted to update. Seems like positive news but I'm not getting too excited yet. I sent an email to the consulate on May 30 and received the standard canned response on June 17 and a case update that day as well. Today (June 20) we received another case update which I assume would be unsolicited after already receiving a response and previous update.

I would try not to worry too much about it but also be prepared for the possibility. Unfortunately, our situation sounds very similar to yours. My husband is also born (French) Canadian from way back, does not work in TAL, but had traveled a lot to "safe" countries. Mostly to the US for work but also some tourism to Europe and Mexico and we got out into AP. Extensive travel history seems to also get you flagged occasionally regardless of background. We didn't even know this was a possibility going in and I wish we had been better prepared for this outcome. We've been waiting over a year now since his interview like most people who interviewed in early 2023. Best of luck to you guys, hopefully everything goes smoothly.

Did you tell them about your pending case upfront or did he know about it and asked you first?

Yes sadly it's totally normal. When you first submit your DS5535 you'll see a few updates then it will go quiet. When we first submitted I believe we had 2-3 updates right away and now 12 months later we're still waiting. The only updates we've had in the meantime came when we sent emails.

I got an actual response on January 23 which was about 11 days after I sent them an email.

Yes, he is a born Canadian citizen of European descent. We assume travel must have triggered it. He has an extensive travel history between US and Canada due to his job, other than that nothing out of the ordinary, just travel for vacations to resort destinations.

The officer ended my husband's interview by telling him: "we'll get you to the US as soon as possible." It's been almost 10 months for us.

Unsure but I don't think so. Past 10 years were all in North America. Several trips yearly to the US due to his job and a few trips to Mexico for vacations. And never to any countries that would typically be flagged.

We submitted my husband's initial application to the USCIS in July 2021. Interview was April 2023 and still waiting in AP after receiving DS-5535. So we're over 2.5 years in our journey so far. For added context since people are often interested he's 100% (french) Canadian, completely of European ancestry. We have not filed WOM.

And mine was North Carolina if you or anyone else is interested. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly they moved even though it sadly did not yield any results. At least some government official moved in a timely fashion.

Mine emailed the consulate the day I spoke with them. It was very quick and the consulate replied the same day.

Yes, my husband's case was updated when my senator contacted the consulate.

This is the same copy and paste reply the consulate always sends as a reply to any inquiry.

Just to clarify, did the consulate specifically ask for the second medical or did you preemptively complete it and send it in?

I emailed them in early October and got a standard email response about 10 days later. I also just sent then another email today.
