  1. Congrats! That's a big deal! Hope you will celebrate accordingly! Curious what type of name change did she do? Is she getting a name change document? If yes, you may want to wait until you file for her passport
  2. Yes, my bad for using the wrong terminology--I meant the concurrent filing, of course!
  3. Just wanted it to pay it forward--and give a public shoutout to @igoyougoduke, who has shared his advice with me back in the day: if you are filing a mandamus and have any questions (especially, as related to argument development), feel free to reach out. I am not a lawyer, but am happy to be of help, given my personal experience.
  4. Hi knowledgeable community: For those of you who filed a JOINT I130/I485 in the recent past, did you file both on paper or did you file I130 electronically and I485 on paper? Looks like things have changed since I did that for myself years ago (there was no electronic option available for I130 back then). It feels tempting to go down the electronic route, but given the infamous incompetence of USCIS, I am not sure if this is giving them fodder to fail to link the two to each other. Thoughts?
  5. But if you get the one who had no experience with i751, that would be mine. What time is your interview?
  6. No iPad. He read the questions and I gave him the answers. It wasn't a multiple choice test, as they do on the app.
  7. Congratulations! You are almost done! Actually had a very different experience in February. I waited for almost an hour for an interview. The interviewer was really nice and we just chatted the entire time. We bonded over some tri-state experiences and he picked my brain about a couple of career related issues. I was surprised that he didn't ask me to use an iPad to take the civics test
  8. No, I don't think you need to worry about the i-751 interview. I do think it's wise for your husband to come along, and, just in case I think you can take the initiative and mention to the interviewer that there seems to have been a glitch with the notice.
  9. Yup! That--and a lawsuit from several of us. I am also hopeful that all the pressure that has been put on the senator by people in this group paid off
  10. This is fantastic! And yay for such a quick turnaround for the oath (I realized that none of us were scheduled for a day that has an oath ceremony baked in. Oh well. But maybe that means that some of us will overlap at the oath ceremony?)
  11. Great news! They touched your file--my hunch is that you will hear a lot sooner than 7 months!
  12. WoM is an effective solution (in fact, I have successfully filed one) but is not always the fastest/plus the startup costs are steep--hard to say, of course, what creates a bottleneck in the OP's case. Maybe WOM would work for them, but maybe something else would be more optimal tool
  13. Yes, I have--I think I tried virtually every tool available to me to make it happen. I don't know what are the details of your filing are, but feel free to reach out if I can be of help
  14. Yes, it does force them to act. I am in a field germane to law, so I will be doing it myself (420 as a filing fee this way, not 5k). I am so sick with their lack of accountability that I think I would be willing to wait a bit longer in order to leave a more palpable debt with a class action. You are at almost 12m, right? What are your thoughts?
  15. I am planning to sue them (with much pleasure) when I return (not as easy to do it when you are out of the country). If anyone would like to join in on a class action, that would be grand too--and a great way to get desired results for our individual cases, and making the system ever so slightly better for those that will come after us
  16. You are spot on--not only their influence is limited (if not nil), but they often misstate things. I also received conflicting information about Vermont/NBC. What I do find infuriating though is that are trying to justify USCIS. I believe I was at a 12m or 15m mark, which was way beyond the 80percent stated timeline for Boston. I pointed that out to the senator's liason. Her response --did you check the calendar function (Probably misremembering how it's actually called, but you get the gist) at the bottom of the page for processing times--it says that if you are in the last 20 percent of the distribution, you need to wait for almost another year. I was totally shocked. She was basically saying it's ok for the USCIS to bid their time 1+ years...in my last correspondence, she mentioned that she hears my frustration but they are just delaying everyone who also has i751 pending --another justification...a good question to ask is why does i751 delay n400--its not like there is a major burden on the officers (aside from integrating i751 into the n400 interview)....
  17. Yes, unfortunately the most they did was sending inquiries about the status (which frankly is such a waste of the taxpayer money--it applies 0 pressure on USCIS and gives you 0 information for how much longer you should be waiting).
  18. Yup, identical here. I think all options have been exhausted (almost 18 months for me). I was planning to sue them (have been out of the country which made it difficult to serve my mandamus, but I will be doing that upon coming back). Anyone interested in joining in on a class action to get out individual results while also making the system a bit more responsible to those who will come after us?
  19. I appreciate your reasoning here, @Imperium--i think one assumption that I am wrestling with here is the one whether it's the i751 that actively delays the adjudication of n400 (I e. Is the regional service center the culprit) or whether it's the local field office that is in charge of the n400 that is not pulling its weight. In my case, the n400 has been pending for almost 17 months (way above the processing times for my field office) and i751 for almost 29 months...my intuition is to argue that both are unreasonably delayed, although I am hesitant if I should identify the regional center/local field office as my jurisdiction. My guess is that both. Would love to pick your brain on this
  20. I very much appreciate your guidance here. I am initiating the process as well. I am not a lawyer, although am in a somewhat germane field. I am curious if you resorted to any resources beyond the review of various sample WOMs to imitate the language? I am asking mostly because I added a few more arguments than what I saw elsewhere and was wondering if it makes sense to have a second set of eyes go over that to ensure I adhered to the 'legal writing' style. Any suggestions?
  21. I am curious if there is a minimum required advance notice that an applicant is entitled to before appearing to the interview? On a purely anecdotal level, I know that these notices usually come in 4-6 weeks in advance, but I am not sure what is legally mandated (if anything).
