Aunque desde el viernes pasaso sabia que la visa esta aprovada pues USCIS me mando un correo electronico con la aprovación, hoy es el dia oficial donde recibí la NOA2 por correo ordinario, la aprovación oficial y escrita por USCIS. Yo llame esta tarde al NVC, pero todavia la visa no ha llegado o no esta registrada en el sistema de la NVC.

Lo que aprobó el USCIS fué su petición, no la visa. La visa la aprueba el cónsul en la embajada en Bogotá el día de su cita.

Gracias Diana por correjir mi vocabulario, pero es que para el caso es lo mismo visa o peticion en el lenguaje de la calle visa o peticion son palabras intercambiables. Pero, si le queremos llamar correctamete y mas tecnicamente a las cosas, diriamos que la peticion K-1 de visa para fiance(e) no ha llegado todavia a NVC.

Gracias Diana. Este foro no es la calle. Este foro es para las personas que quieren aprender como son las cosas en el proceso de lograr una visa. Entonces, gracias a dios que tenemos personas aca como Diana que saben como son las cosas. Tenemos que llamar las cosas correctamente y tecnicamente porque sino, se confundan la gente que van a leer este foro en el futuro. Todos los formularios de las agencias tienen que ser llenados correctamente, no que "casi asi" Cuando una habla con USCIS, NVC, o la Embajada, no hay palabras intercambiables.

First of all...for us it was only necessary for Yenifer to get the vaccines that she did not have on her certificate of vaccinations. I think that was a first because Diana and her husband had a nightmare at Roa's office. Doctors were giving people some BS that if your vaccines were more than 8 days old you would have to do them again. Yenifer had the same doctor as Diana's husband and there was no problem...also the fee was CHEAPER than it was at the red cross...that was also a first!!!

Good luck Bill. My Margara sent packet 3 to the embassy yesterday, via fax and servientrega. I will call NVC Wednesday night to see if they have our interview date. Thank you everyone for all of the help thus far. It's refreshing to know that there are people so friendly and willing to help a stranger. Chicas disculpen mi ignorancia, que significa TOUCH, siempre veo TOUCH y fechas, no comprendo que es eso, yo espero el NOA2, y me dieron un codigo WAC...., y siempre me sale lo mismo, gracias de antemano por su respuesta

Una vez registre su recibo con la página de internet del USCIS, puede ver si ellos le han tocado el caso o no. Cada vez que ellos hacen eso, la fecha en la página de internet cambia y significa que le hicieron "touch".

Les cuento que ayer mi Margara envio paquete 3 a la embajada por fax y servientrega. El Miercoles en la noche voy a llamar NVC a ver si saben la fecha de la cita. Muchisima gracias a todos que me han ayudado. Todas son super amigable. Me hace sentir bonito que todovia hay gente que ayudan y apollan otras aun si son desconosidos.

bueno les cuento que ese dia estaba muy asustada, llegue desde las 7 am y la entrevista me la hicieron a eso de las 12 del medio dia, asi que vayanse bien desayunaditos, tambien bien abrigados porq hace demasiado frio. cuando la oficial consular me llamo, al principio fue muy amable, pero luego me pregunto que si yo tenia familia en U.S.A. yo le dije que un tio en miami, me dijo que desde cuando conocia a mi novio y yo le dije que desde junio de 2006, inmediatamnete me dijo que porq razon yo habia solicitado la visa de turista en abril de 2007 y habia mentido diciendo que no tenia familia alla, que esa mentira era muy grave y que a un oficial consular no se le podia mentir, entonces yo le dije que esa solicitud me la habia llenado una agencia de viajes y ellos habian puesto eso. yo casi me pongo a llorar porq pense q no me la iba a dar. pero luego ella se tranquilizo y solo me pregunto que cuando habia conocido a mi novio en persona, yo le dije que en mayo de 2007, por cuantos dias?, yo le dije q 4 dias, no le preocupa haberlo conocido solo 4 dias y querer casarse? yo le dije q no porq mantenemos contacto diario, que si el conocia a mi familia? le dije q no, q solo por camara en internet. que en q trabaja el? le dije q en salud ocupacional, y luego me pregunto q si yo habia cometido algun delito o habia estado en prision, le dije q no y enseguida me dijo su visa fue otorgada y dirijase a la oficina de Domesa. eso fue todo, fue muy rapido.

Nydia y Diana, perdonen que las siga molestando, pero quiero preguntarles, si estaría bien que mi hijo y yo nos pongamos las vacunas, pues estas me sientan muy mal y me da miedo que me vaya a enfermar y la verdad esperamos que luego de la aprobación de las visas podamos irnos lo mas rápido posible, pues no podemos quedarnos muchos días, mi amor tiene que ir atender el negocio, que me aconsejan? La embajada muy gentil me envió un email diciéndome que ya tienen mi nueva dirección, yo les envié un email diciendo de este cambio y no me respondieron, pero al enviar el segundo si, me dicen que tienen mis papeles y que me envían el paquete numero 4, no ha llegado, pero como les conté ya tenemos la fecha de la cita que es el 31 de Marzo, espero sus consejos, A todos como siempre les envío un abrazo muy grande y les deseo a todos muchos éxitos en sus procesos, gracias a Di-s ya casi termino, Carina

Felicidades. He leido en el otro foro que tu novio puede llamar a la embajada y pedir que ellos le mandan paquete 4 a el en los estados unidos. El otro foro dice que el correo en Colombia aveces es MUY lento, pero que cosas de la embajada llegen a EEUU muy rapidos. Despues que paquete 4 es con tu novio, el puede mandarlo a ti con fedex. Tambien dicen que la gente de la embajada son mas rapido de ayudar un ciudano americano que les llama en ingles.

Hoy hable con Margara de nuevo, y vamos a llevar la niña a la embajada. Como dicen, mejor prevenir. Aparte de sacarla del colegio y la pereza de estarse en la embajada todo el dia, no le hace daño a irse con nosotros. Tengo una pregunta. Margarita tiene un hermano aca en EEUU. El vino aca hace 10 años con visa de tourista y nunca regreso a colombia cuando su visa se vencio. Entonces, el es aqui ilegalmente. Una pregunta en la hoja DS156 es si Margarita tiene familia aca. No podemos decir mentiras. Yo creo que ellos ya saben y si no, van a saber cuando nos toca a adjustar status. Entonces mi pregunta es lo que sigue. Tiene familia aca algien que ha ido a la cita y que paso? Tenemos todo listo y en orden aparte que eso y tengo mucho miedo

John, si miras la DS 156K es la que dice claramente que no se debe firmar sino en presencia del consul. En la entrevista obviamente, la DS-230 parte 1 ¨SI¨ va firmada.

Cada cosa con eso proceso me confunda. Dicen una cosa en una hoja y despues dicen el contrario en otro lugar. Que pereza todo eso. Lo bueno es que toda esa bobada tiene mucho valor (a tener mi cielo aca conmigo)

He leido en paquete 3 que ninos que tienen menos que 14 anos y estan en el caso de su mama no tienen que ir a la cita. Pero un senor en el foro en ingles me conto que cuando se fue a la cita su novia, le tocaba a llevar su hija el dia sigiente. osea que dijeron que ella logro la visa, pero solo si se lleva su hija a conprobar que si existe la nina. Mi Margara vive en Medellin, y no quieremos sacar la nina de escuela por una semana entera. Entonces ellas iban a ir a Bogota solo un dia por lo de medico. Despues, Margara y yo por unos 3 dias por la cita. Asi la nina solo falta un dia en el colegio. Gracias

Margara Y Daniela van a ir a Bogota a hacer las cosas medicos. Pero van a ir y regresar el mismo dia. Osea salgan Medellin a las 6 de la manana y regresar en la noche. Don't worry about the kids because there were kids from babies to teens at the embassy when we were there...

Also as far as the DS-156...the bank will have what you need and it will take all of 10 minutes to fill out so don't bother to stress about that.

(just be sure to fill out an extra copy for the embassy while you're there...1 for the bank and 1 for the embassy)

As I gather from your posts, and the help that you have given others (including Yenifer and I) here at Colombia Club, you are very well prepared and I know that you will have no problem...

I am not sure if it is a good idea to take the kids or not. On one hand I think they will have a very hard time denying us if I am standing there with the baby in my arms. On the other hand, if it turns out to be one of those days and the kids are a pain it could increase the stress level considerably.

Billy, just sticking my nose in (hopefully not where it doesn't belong). Margarita and I have been going back and forth on whether or not to bring Daniela with us. Daniela is 8 years old. We finally decided not to bring her with us. She would have to miss too much school and I too am scared of "one of those days". Good luck

I don't know that it was different because we were going for a K-3, but Lorena and I went to the interview without the kids. While she was 'tentatively' approved that day, she was required to bring the boys to the embassy the following day to show the officer that the boys did, indeed, exist. Only then was she granted the visas. While it may be different with different folks - or different officers - you might give thought to taking the kids. It could mean saving another trip, especially if your SO doesn't live in Bogota and doesn't bring the kids along to Bogota the first go-round. Best of luck to you all!!!

Thanks for the heads up Charles. Margarita and Daniela live in Medellin, so it would be a huge burden to make another trip. I wish they would stick to what the instructions say. It clearly states that "children under 14 years of age who are not the beneficiaries of individual petitions do not have to come to the interview" I certainly do not doubt you Charles, but this is the type of nonsense that frustrates me so much. Even when you follow their instructions, you aren't guaranteed that you are doing the right thing.

no sabia que ra necesario enviar la copia el pasaporte hasta donde entendido es solo el Of-169 y el 230- DS pero si estoy en lo incorrecto alguien por favor corrijame ahhh y la carata comentando cual es el numero de tu caso eso es todo

para el paquete 3 tienes que anexar:

1. carta de presentacion donde este el numero de tu caso ante el nvc que inicia con BGT mas 10 digitos, tu nombre completo, direccion y para que visa aplicas.

2. DS-230 parte 1. firmado

3. of-169 firmado.

4. la fotocopia de la parte biografica de tu pasaporte.

eso es todo verdad.

Thanks for the info everyone. No mention of money will be made. Margarita told me today that the people at DAS told her that her certificado judicial is only valid for 30 days pertaining to leaving the country. It says on the form that it is valid for 1 year, but says nothign about leaving the country. Her certificado judicial, registro civil, and baptism form will all be dated about 60-80 days before the interview date. Will these be accepted by the embassy? If so,does Margarita need a new certificado judicial less than 30 days from the time she leaves Colombia? Are there any documents she will need at the airport in order to leave? I know she will need the visa, her passport, and the notarized letter from Daniela's dad giving her permision to leave. Thanks

So if anyone wants to get married before coming here, the CR1/IR1 visa is the way to go. Waiting less than 60 days to avoid the AOS fee and headache is worth it in my opinion, not to mention the getting a SS # hassle.

For me, I know the CR1 is hands down the best of the bunch, but all I cared about was getting my wife here quick. My attitude was the $1,000 was worth it for her to be here a month quicker. (It also let her know she was valued too. jeje)

Anyway, after I made the K3 decision I just quit reading. I was burnt out on reading about visas and doing paperwork. Now my question is: What are the SS# hassles and what are the other difficulties? Are there any surprises that I should know about? Is the AOS process really that bad?

I can 100% see how people wish they went K1. I know occasionally that bothered me seeing K1's get approved faster than K3's.

I couldn't agree more with you regarding $$$ Vs. having your honey here sooner, I checked around about the different types of visas and as you said, I stopped looking around, he's here with me and we didn’t have any problem in the process, we sent the AOS papers on Feb. 01. ( I hope things will go as good as the visa process did)

I think that as longest you have proofs (writing and pics) you shouldn't have any problems, we also have a plus in our process and that is that we had been married for 3 years, this means we won't have to go through the "remove of conditions" process.

I don't regret this process one bit, and I hope they won't take it away.\

Honestly I don't think its fear that as fiancé you get to have more privileges than an already husband/wife. I wish someone can give me a logic answer on this part.

I am putting together my proof of on going relationship. Should I print all of my msn messenger conversations? I have been saving them since June, and it would total at more than 1,000 pages. I don't want to waste time printing so much, but if i is worthwhile, I will do it. I have phone records, money transfer records, many photos, emails, passport stamps,boarding passes, hotel receipts, engagement ring receipt,and receipts from flowers I sent. I was thinking maybe I should just print like 10 conversations form different dates. Any input is appreciated

Y tambien queria saber si debo hacer la cita de medico ahora o espero q llegue el paquete 4 y tambien q llenamos el DS 230 parte 1 paginas 1 y 2. tengo q llevar parte 2 a la embajada o ellos me lo dan alla. muchas gracias y perdona por hacerles tantas preguntas.,....

No puedes ir a la cita de medico hasta que tienes paquete 4. Con paquete 4 viene una carta o hoja de cual tienes que llevar al doctor. El doctor no te va a revisar sin esa hoja. Los 380 dolares son para los que quieren visa imigrante. Si tu visa es K1 o K3 es una visa non-imigrante y cuesta 110 dolares. La cita medico creo es 250.000 pesos pero tambien deberias a llevar mas plata en caso que necesitas vacunas. Tienes que pagar en efectivo en el doctor pero puedes pagar con tarjeta de credito por la visa. Tienes que pagar la visa en el banco antes que la entrevista, no que en la embajada. Dicen que es mejor a hacer la cita medico como 2 dias antes que la cita en la embajada. Asi vas a tener tiempo a resolvar cual quier problema que encuentras. Paquete 4 dura mucho tiempo a llegar. Pero si no te ha llegado antes que el dia 4 de marzo, sera bien a llamar la embajada. Que dia mandaste paquete 3 a la embajada? Mi novia tiene que mandar su paquete 3 todovia, pero no quieremos la cita hasta que abril. Entonces quiero saber mas o menos cuando debe de mandar el paquete 3 para conseguir la cita en abril. On the instructions in packet 3 it says that the photos can't be digital. My Margarita cannot find a place that takes nondigital photos in Medellin. She says everywhere does digital photos. Here in the US, I had mine taken at Kinkos/Fedex and they were digital. Is this just an old rule that is no longer enforced?

NVC Quagmire!

NVC has had our paperwork since the 11th of January. I have called twice a week to see if the paperwork has been forwarded to the embassy, and they keep telling me that it is in "Administrative Processing" and that this is normal, but there is no timeline for when it will be completed. I have thought all along that this was their canned answer.

Today, they said that not all paperwork goes through "Administrative Processing", but ours is. Again there is no timeframe for when this may be completed.

Until today, I thought this was a process that everyone went through and ours was only taking longer. Now it seems that ours is out of the ordinary and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this for me. We missed the February interviews and now I am concerned that we may miss the March interviews as well.

Hi everyone. I sent an email to the embassy on Jan 28, and still haven't gotten a relpy. Has anyone gotten a reply from the embassy? How long does it usually take? thanks john

Some people will go through Administrative Processing for whatever reason they find. In most cases it means there was a red flag based on either the petitioner's or beneficiary's names. What they do is run whatever information they found through the FBI to make sure it comes back clean before sending the case to the embassy. Unfortunately, this process can take a while and you just have to keep calling them until they say you're out of "Administrative Processing".

They had always told me that this is a normal process that everyone goes through until yesterday. I am normally the calm one, but this upset me yesterday. I continue to try to calm Carina, but she is about to freak out!! jajajajajaj We will continue to be patient. I am so thankful for everyone in this forum. It is only a little speed bump, but it is encouraging to have the experience of this forum to rely on and to calm the nerves!!

Could you please someone give me advises and tips about AOS? I got my birth certificate with the translation, what about apostille? what else do I need?

Hi Everyone, I am silent reader from last year. I have a question for those of you who have brought the children over with the parent on the visa. What was requested from you at the embassy?

Did they need the baptismal certificate? What about the DAS? We have a letter from the Colombian Embassy that we will have authorized in Bogota so the kids can leave. Any help would be great. The boys are 16 and 11.

I have not been through the process yet but maybe I can help. I have studied this a lot.

The children need:

1. DS-156 (2 copies)
2. DS-230 Part I
3. 6 photos
4. Passport
5. Orignal or notarized copy of the birth certificate. Make sure that the notary's color stamps are on the copy.
6. Original or authenticated copy of the baptism certificate with notas marginales (We obtained new ones from the church.)
7. Judicial and prison records if they were ever arrested.
8. If they are 18 or older a Colombian Judicial Police Report (Does not apply)
9. If they are 16 or older and lived 6 months or more since attaining the age of 16 in another country (other than the US or Venezuela) they must have a police certificate from that country. The 6 months is cumulative. If they lived somewhere else for 4 months and then lived there again for 2 months they must obtain the police certificate. (Might apply to the 16 year old.)
10. DAS Migratorio Certificate (maybe). I think if the oldest boy is 16 1/2 months old or older I would obtain one for him. This is the document they use to determine if a police certificate from another country is required. You do not need one for the younger child.
11. Medical exam and lab tests

13. The 16 year old must attend the interview. The younger one does not need to attend but he can.

In addition, if there is a father on the birth certificates you must have a notarized letter from the father stating that he grants the child (children) permission to leave the country. This is enforced by DAS at the airport. The letter cannot be more than 60 days old on the day they leave the country. If the father is dead you will need a death certificate. If the father cannot be found, you will need proof of abandonment. I think that comes from ICBF. Maybe the letter from the Colombian embassy covers all of this. What does it say? Remember that the US embassy has nothing to do with this. You will want to make sure in advance that the documents will be accepted by DAS at the airport.
