  1. Thanks

I sent the number to my husband to check on it. I just called him and made sure he has been checking the mail and that there is nothing un-opened that he hasnt gotten to. Ugh so frustrating.

Hopefully he will call in the next hour and find out whats going on, since he has all the numbers at home. Was thinking of calling my bank and see if there is some kind of receipt number on the back of my cashed check, the online image is not available right now.

  2. Okay, we mailed our form along with the $600 or so dollars around the 1st week of Feb and havent heard anything since.... :( They did cash my check about a week later... getting a little worried now. What is bio-metrics I keep hearing about? My hubbys card expired the last day in April so now I'm worried that if he needs to travel back home for anthing in the event of an emergency we dont have any paperwork.

    Any suggestions would be great.

  3. Not sure if we did this right.

I am out of town, so my husband mailed his I-751 form some time around the first week of Feb since his conditional GC expired the last day of April. They cashed our check right away, but we havent heard anything yet. I am out of the country and getting a little worried, esp reading about bio-metrics appointments, what is that? I am pretty sure he sent in all the "evidence" of us living together, we have a child together also. I am just confused and worried now. Let me know if I am missing something.

  4. Hello VJ!!

    Hope everyone is doing well.

Finally settling down here in Utah... Arrived first week in May and my family (hubby and boys) are already back in Canada visiting family.

Luckily they come home next week as I am already going crazy missing them, strange I know!

    Anyways quick question...

a co-worker here is dating someone that came here 7-10 years ago on a work visa but now claims to be a US citizen... you can do that?? I didnt know that someone that came here on a work visa could switch it over and then get citizenship?

    Thanks guys

  5. I know I am late... I did a search for PR Card... we still havent gotten ours... looks like you got your 20 days after entry... and its been a month and a half for us??? strange.

Glad you got yours though... one less headache!!

  6. So I just went through a couple timelines and was wondering when should my husband get his "green card"??

Seems like recent members have gotten them in a matter of a few weeks.

We got the Visa (his CDN passport) on 30 April and activated it and crossed the border that same day.

He has already received his SSN... and he also received 2 welcome letters.

Should we be calling someone about the "green card"? and if so, who do we call?

Thanks so much. I'd be so lost without VJ!!!

  7. I believe my date was the date I went to Toronto for them to approve the I 130... I know I mailed it in and a couple weeks later they called me to go to Toronto and it was approved that day, then they sent it to Montreal who then sent me my packet with the checklist. I sat on my checklist for a long time... when I could of just sent it back in since we technically had everything... but I procrastinated. So yes it can be much shorter.

Good luck Elsoar and everyone else!!

  8. they're GC holders though, and shouldn't have had a problem. I think they messed up and i would go back. we have chase too, and husband had no problems. they didn't want to see his green card, just the visa in his passport and some random credit card with his name on it. they did it no problem. maybe make sure to tell them you have a PR in the states. i was with my hubby when we added him though

Exactly thats why I think the girl messed up the paperwork...

Esp since the letter they sent wanted to know why he has a US address...

I did call and add him to my USAA acct and that was easy, they said they will just send us some signature cards and to send them back...

Like I said I think since this is a brand new branch they are still learning...

I want to just go to another Chase branch... lol

  9. Thanks TM

I guess we will just fill it out and send it in if we dont end up at another bank first.

I just didnt want them to assign him a TIN on top of him already having a SSN.

Oh and he got another SSN card in the mail today, however this one also has his 2 middle names on it when the other one just has his first and last name... strange. I think though they are the same number, I never did DOUBLE check... might need to go do that, haha.

  10. I just dont get why they need this form, he has a social... makes no sense to me.

When I read about the form it seems its for contractors or people with a business???

I told him we should just go to another bank.

He only chose that bank because it is close to our house.

Not to mention it is a brand new branch and the people seem clueless... ARGH!!

  11. So the hubby has a SSN... and went to the bank to open an acct. He went to Chase. They opened the acct, but the other day he got a letter saying he needs to fill out a W9.... and then they were questioning why he has a US address as a non-resident... argh!!

Have any of you had to fill this form out? After reading the instructions it does not seem like this form applies to him.

I think they have messed up his paperwork because they also had him listed as a nonresident and then they also wanted to know why he has a US address... I wish I would have gone with him the first time... but you know how it is when you want a bank acct and dont want to wait for anyone to go with you to open the acct.

Just wondering if any of you have had to fill out this form??

    Thanks

Posted in the Canadian Forum because its the only one I read :)

  12. Thanks guys. I was worried... when we were there at the border activating the visa they took him into a separate area, so I could only see him through the glass. I wrote on a paper and held up to the glass telling him to make sure it says he can work... haha.

  13. I started looking for employment just before I received my I-551 stamp. The state I live in has a plentiful amount of jobs so I got quite a few interviews right away. I needed a job ASAP so the newspaper was my best friend. I literally called every number for every job I thought I could do.

I got a job in less than two weeks after I started looking. In fact, I didn't even have my green card in hand yet, just my 551 stamp for few weeks I worked. I also didn't have my social security number either yet but I was working for a small business that could get away with that sort of thing.

Is it actually a stamp (I-551) only because in the hubbys visa it mentions upon endorsement (I was thinking this means the visa) serves as temporary I-551 for 1 year... and I was wondering if that was correct... I thought it was a "stamp"

I wanted to scan his passport (visa portion) and post and see if they stamped it correctly... all it says is that he was admitted on such and such date and CR1 is written in the middle of the circle where it say class until??? Weird!!

    Thanks

  14. The family is slowly falling apart... the hubby has broke out in a hive like rash all over his body... it has progressively gotten worse... seems it may be calming down a bit now... (after 2 weeks of suffering)

Monday the 8 year old comes home sick from school -- his ear hurts-- never had an ear infection, bought some drops and then he feels fine.

Then today I get a call from school (today was his last day of school since we hope to start our drive tomorrow to Utah if the visa arrives) The 8 year old has hives all over his body... by the time I get there to get him most of them have gone down.. so I get him home and full of benadryl and he falls asleep.. only to wake up screaming that his ear hurts, so I rush him to emergency room since the docs office is closed and he has an ear infection... I hope this week gets better...

I can only take so much...

  15. Hopefully someone will still read this... quick question on the fee...

I know when I submitted the I 130 I paid $355... and then when we had our interview Friday we had to pay another fee of $355... did I pay the same fee again?? I just thought it was odd that it was the same amount that I had already paid... but was too caught up in the moment and didn't want to rock the boat and bring that up...

    Thanks guys.

hmm shouldn't it have been 470? 70 for affidavit of support and 400 for the IV bill? maybe you got off for a discount? but then again, since I didn't DCF, im not sure if you have to pay the NVC fees

I'm not sure, I just thought it was odd to pay the same exact amount???

I don't know anything about NVC... when I submitted our I130 in Toronto thats where they took the first $355 fee... strange. Maybe someone else knows...
