  1. Jeez. I don't know what else to say. I appreciate you posting this.
  2. Logic question: VAWA approval lasts forever. VAWA approval grants C31 EAD. VAWA likely grants deferred action. If you get deferred action, you can live and work in the US forever. Green Card denial puts you in removal proceedings. Green Card vs. Approved VAWA gets you travel, ability to apply for Citizenship, and a few other minor benefits. Seems if you have any doubt you'll get the Green Card, DO NOT APPLY. What's missing? Not a lawyer.
  3. What if... Filed 360. Stayed with the abuser. More abuse occurred. File a separate 360? Okay to have two 360's running concurrently?
  4. Ah, they didn't go for that. Administrator said you must have approved Green Card status with a Green Card in hand, or you have the grant letter and are waiting for it to arrive in the mail. She said she could work with just the letter. I see how it can be read both ways. FL is tough.
  5. This clip is from a different FL school, but I don't see VAWA listed here, so maybe school official correct. I have State ID (Real ID) and non-work SSN is in the mail. School has that info. and is only claiming I don't meet the immigration status requirement. Any suggestions?
  6. Just received this from my school. I uploaded my Prima Facie letter. "The USCIS VAWA status is not eligible to be used for Florida Residency for Tuition Purposes. If you get approved for another status, please submit those documents for another review." Otherwise, I meet the FL residency requirements.
  7. Is VAWA prima facie eligible for an emergency housing voucher (EHV) from HUD? Anyone ever received one? Thx.
  8. I have prima facie. Waiting on biometrics. Filed 360/485/765/131. I applied for FAFSA by mailing a paper form of FAFSA. Couldn't complete on-line because of SSN requirement. Received denial of paper submission because of lack of SSN. Checked eligible non-citizen and supplied A-number. I sent emails to DoE asking for guidance, no response. Is it worthwhile to take my FAFSA denial (an unsigned letter, but Financial Aid mailing envelope) and my PF letter to SSA and request non-working SSN? I know it doesn't cost anything to try, but an SSA visit is a full day affair. Thank you.
  9. Wasn't paying close attention, but for an EAD expedite request, I always knew one of the criteria considered was "health care worker", but I was just reviewing it and it says "or childcare worker". I never noticed that before. That's me. Was that always there? https://www.uscis.gov/forms/filing-guidance/how-to-make-an-expedite-request#:~:text=Call the USCIS Contact Center, that meets the above criteria.
  10. I'm in the long waiting period between Prima Facie and adjudication. Question: Should I send in the divorce decree with my abuser? A. Helpful B. Hurtful C. No consequence
  11. Logically it would seem that if you are granted Prima Facie, you would be approved for an expedited EAD without any additional evidence. Is that everyone's experience? My thought experiment: USCIS says you can stay in the US while your I-360 processes (30 months) and here is gov't funded healthcare, tuition, and a driver's license, but no cash and you are not allowed to work? That doesn't make sense. Or, maybe my logical/factual flaw is that USCIS is not saying you can stay in the US? Or, maybe these are simply totally different departments (they are) and the expedite EAD has specific rules that must be followed no matter the requestor. That makes the most sense. Just thinkin' out loud. Middle of the night. Have PF waiting on biometrics, then will request expedite of EAD.
  12. EAD - which automatically makes you eligible for a "normal" SSN - can take a year.
  13. VAWA niche topic. Between getting I-360 receipts and your EAD, you might need a non-working SSN to apply for state or federal benefits. I could explain further, but google does a much better job.
  14. Anyone ever get a non-working Social Security Number for any reason? Could you share your story. Trying to get a housing authority to issue the required letter to SSA has been fruitless.
  15. Looking for suggestions for the following requirements (for VAWA prima facie): 1. Online courses 2. One to two year certificate program preferred, but could be courses only 3. Sales and Marketing or Business Administration 4. Title IV school - FAFSA eligible 5. Best value, inexpensive, or both Thx.
  16. My understanding is that getting notice of Prima Facie determination on your VAWA application generally makes you eligible for a state driver's license, financial aid under FAFSA, and health insurance....and possibly other state benefits. My question is, are your lawyers helping you navigate these processes (all are complicated) or are your state DV counselors helping, or are you doing this on your own? Thx.
  17. Yes. My question is how to obtain an offer letter prior to getting an EAD. But, regardless, thank you. Process would be...find job...interview...get offer...apply for EAD expedite (w/offer)...receive EAD...pass e-Verify...start work.
  18. Hello. Self-petitioner Jan 2023. Looking ahead here. Starting a job search in anticipation of getting an EAD. Hopefully getting an offer from a local employer to expedite with USCIS and/or my local congressional rep. I frequently encounter this question..."Are you authorized to work in the US". I am not, but my understanding is that employers are not allowed to ask about immigration status until AFTER a job offer. This seems inconsistent, but I assume legal. Yes, I realize the "authorized" question is not technically asking about immigration status. No need to flame me, or give snark response. Thx. I think employers ask the "authorized" question to avoid wasting time, but in my case, I'm not wasting their time. Any ideas of how to obtain a job offer and answer the "authorized" question truthfully or should I just look for employers that don't ask this question? Thx.
  19. Waiting on receipts for my I-360, I-485, and I-765. Most interested in getting an EAD. From what I've read, the best route is to wait for the receipts and when received inquire with my local congressman to assist in an expedite request. Does that sound correct? Other question is: would I need a job offer, or would it enhance my inquiry to the local congressman if I had an offer in hand with the provisions of expedite requests? Thanks.
