Yeah, you are right. After receiving RFE I became extra cautious, due to not understanding where did i make a mistake. Thank you for sharing your experience!

I hand wrote in answers that the form wouldn't let me type. There was no problem.

Because it's very likely computer systems are automatically checking the applications initially. Those systems may struggle when the form is both handwritten and typed.
 
If you cannot type it all, just complete the entire form by hand.
 
This is just a suggestion, I don't know that for a fact.
